AutoCAD 2013 :: Fixture Doesn't Stay Rotated
May 8, 2013
I have a base plan with some light fixtures that need to be rotated 180.
Yesterday, I rotated the fixtures then saved the file. Then I closed the file and emailed it. When I reopened it, the fixtures were rotated back, but the file I emailed was properly rotated. I saved over our file with the one that I emailed, and all seemed fine yesterday. This morning I open it and everything’s rotated incorrectly again.

I have an assembly that changes daily and drawings made at each step of the way using .dwg format. The problem is, that when I add something to the assembly, it addes it to the drawings already made and as a result losses dims and notes that I made. Is there a way to set the dwgs so that all new items added to the model automaticly are no visible in the drawings that were already created. I spend a lot of time changing old drawing to what they used to be.

Whenever I create a new layer in the Layer Manager, and I set the color, the color reverts back to whatever it defaulted to when I created the new layer - usually the color of that layer that is current, since everything is just duplicated.
To fix it I have to go back into Layer Manager and set the color a second time.

In LDDT, I was able to create points and manually assign a point number.
I know in Civil 3D 2013, i can assign a point number also by changing a toggle under Point Creation Tools to False.
My problem is that everytime I close out of that box and get back in, it reverts the toggle back to TRUE so I have to keep changing it back to False as well as the Next Point Number. In the above example, the Next Point Number should be 1147 (which is after my manually created point 1146) but it keeps going back to 33 which is the next available number after #1.

On a couple assy's, I am trying to use pack&go to make self-contained versions of them.
Only problem is, the assy file (xxx.iam) and all sub-assy files are still linked to the component files in the original location even though the component files were copied to the new location with the P&G command
The whole point in this feature is to make self sufficient copies of something that don't depend on the original data.
This shows the settings I am using It is finding all the files ok. It just doesn't change the relationships on the new iam files. I could manually copy them and do the same thing this feature is doing.
Is there some hidden checkbox I need to find ? Note, I also tried once with "Include linked files" unchecked and got the same result.

Acad 2013 on a capable Windows 7 machine.
I would like to cut a section through an extrusion. Attached find a section view of my extrusion cut at 90%%d. My deal is I want to be able to specify the angle. It could be anything, and it could be a compound miter (using in saw-speak, because my drawings go to saw operators), that is, angles in two directions. But, let's keep it simple - how to cut a section parallel with the Y axis in the attached drawing?
Right now I am warping something in due to the complexity of the profile. But for accuracy sake it is obvious why I'd like something better. I'd like my operators to have confidence in what they see.
I could do this easily in Inventor. Or even oin Civil 3D, working around it (using Autodesk-speak). But, I have neither. Is this a UCS thing? I trained myself to never touch the UCS long ago, because I am a surveyor by trade, and surveyors pull coordinates from AutoCAD (or one of its children) to stake points on the ground with, and a surveyor ends up working at McD's if she/he goes outside with coords pulled from a made-up UCS. So I don't know the first thing about manipulating the UCS, despite daily use of the products since release 12.
I looked at Sections in the 3D modeling workspace palettes, but nothing really jumped out at me for being able to rotate or cut sections where I want them to be. They all seem to snap to existing planes of the extruded solid. Big deal - I can do that intuitively just by looking at the part.

I am working with 2013 in 2D
Somehow I switched my UCS without noticing from X,Y,X to Z,Y,X. Though the UCS was changed my layout never switched orientation (flat square remained flat square and did not turn into a line).
I was alerted to the error when inserting the blocks. Half of the blocks were showing up as thin lines (in the Z plane) and half where showing up in the X plane.
I was able to correct the UCS by typing UCS, world view, then PLAN, current.
My question now: How can I fix the blocks that where "created" in the Z plane so that they can be inserted into the X plane without having to 'rotate3d' every time I insert a block?

I've been using Autocad 2014 for several months now, and I've noticed that every couple days or so it turns off my autosave. I can check the box to enable it, and set it to 10 minutes, and a couple days later it will be unchecked and say 0 minutes in the box. I don't know how often it happens, I know it takes more than one day, but it's really annoying and one of those things I usually only find AFTER I have a drawing crash on me.
Is this some kind of software or profile issue?

I like my command line to be near the left hand corner and not "docked" (meaning taking up the entire bottom of the screen) like this:But each time I plot, and open AutoCAD 2013, It snaps back to the middle like this:
I've tried saving my workspace (I'm very familiar with customizing and how that all works) but it just always snaps to the middle.I really like the floating command line and found that if I have it just to the right of my UCS icon at the bottom left of my screen, it's out of my way, but gives me the lines of info I want.
How to make it stay near the corner and not snap back to the middle?

I am well aware this has been an issue for awhile and supposedly fixed in 2008 SP1.
But we are running Civil 3d 2013. and still getting this issue.

Any clear cut solution for rectifying this problem?

I admit that I have used AutoCAD for several years now, but I have very, very little experience with 3D applications and needing to alter the typical horizontal/vertical coordinate system.
What I have is a file that, though the lower-left icon is horiz/vert, my crosshairs cursor is tilted approximately 30 degrees counterclockwise. This file, I believe, did originate in AutoCAD Civil 3D, so who knows what was done there. But, how can I get my crosshairs straightened out once more?
I have noticed a relation with the UCS and the cursor, when I've played with Orbits. I just can't grasp what that relationship is.

Whenever i move my cursor over a 3D solid, outlines of the solid stay dashed.I tried changing the visual effect settings but it doesn't work.
it doesn't only do this in every view (top, side, front) but also when i'm panning around and hover my mouse over any solid. Using the regen command resets the solids so that they don't have the dashed outlines anymore.
whenever i'm panning around and i have conceptual view on, i have to switch from conceptual -> wireframe -> conceptual if i want the solids to look normal again.

I'm trying to rotate an image. Actually, I figured out how to rotate it. But I can't figure out how to fill in the "empty" triangular areas that represent the area between the edges of the original image and the horizontal and vertical edges of the canvas. I would like to fill these spaces so it is not obvious that the image was rotated. How can I do this?
What is the standard way to manipulate images in this manner?
I've attached a sample image that I rotated.

I'm trying to loft a base for a light fixture. It's narrowest at the top and bottom, and its widest point is in the middle. classic design.
Can I upload a pdf? I assume if it's available to everyone via a search engine, wouldn't it be ok to upload it? Any thoughts?
I digress. I'm trying to look at the circles from the side, so they form horizontal lines. I thought they'd be easier to offset a distance to.
I tried changing my views around to achieve that effect, but to no avail. UCS is World view. Or View.
One of the images in the .pdf, is of the appearance I'm after in a front view. So that way, I could do an offset distance of one inch, but as things stand now, that wouldn't work either.
It wouldn't work in this view projection, I think was what the wording was; or close to it.
The only view I was able to do any offsets in was the Top view IIRC, but that just gave me a bunch of concentric circles with no height. At least they were offset.

"There is no tag loaded for lighting fixtures, do you want to load one now?"
I have explored a number of other family types, walls, doors, windows, kitchen and bathroom etc and never had this message/error occur.

I have got a split level building with hanging light fixtures in a double height room. The cable is connected to the double height ceiling, but the fixture itself hangs right down to below the split level used in another part of the building. I have set the light fixtures level to higher level, reduced the hanging distance right down, tried change the host, but they still hang below the split level line.
The fixture is the Rectangular Hanging Light Fixture from [URL] ... And the drawing is in millimetres.

I am trying to create a light fixture with a head that can rotate in two axis so that the light can aim up or down and left or right.
I have been unable to create a light fixture that can rotate up and down as shown in the Revit help files.
Here is a resume of my two attempts at creating this and the reasons why they failed:
Embedded family solution: The embedded family will not rotate vertically even as a face based fixture hosted on a line reference. If you rotate the line reference in the horizontal axis, the hosted embedded fixture ignores the rotation and does not follow.
Unique family solution: The light source will not move even if it is locked to a reference line, it evokes an error.

I need to convert a Cad file into a PDF file. Unfortunately, the PDF file won't print. The first time I had this problem was I converted it with the layers on the PDF file. What I did last time was this:
-I went under Plot-Model
-Under the Printer/plotter, I clicked DWG to PDF.pc3 and click on Properties
-Click under the Device and Document Settings tab
-Click on Custom Properties
-Click on Custom Properties buttom
-Under the DWG to PDF PRoperties table, I click on Capture all under Fon Handling
-I uncheck Include Layer information under Additonal Output Setting
-I click ok
When I begin to plot under Batch Plot, I also went and click on Publish Options, and on that table under Layer information, I click on Don't include.
For some reason, it's not printing the way as it should. I don't know what other option I have in order the print corretly.

I'm looking for comments here- Was this a "bug" in AutoCAD 2013 or what?
I teach AutoCAD to high school kids via "cyber school" and one of my students was sending me drawings on which the SNAP was NOT "snapping" parallel to the X axis and the GRID was not present at all-
Here's what I discovered (This is what I wrote to the student):
Your software is AUTOCAD DESIGN SUITE Ultimate 2013 (Student Version)
Your LIMITS are correctly set to 0,0 and 12,9
GRID and SNAP are both set to .25
The problem:
1. The GRID does NOT display no matter what settings are chosen under the GRID command or within the Drafting Settings dialog box on the Grid and Snap tab.
2. The SNAP function does not create VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL lines.
(The SNAP function is not alignning with the X and Y axes.)
When I opened your latest drawing (9.1) and drew a 12 by 9 rectangle using coordinate input (L <enter> 0,0<enter> 12,0<enter> 12,9<enter> 0,9<enter> c<enter>), the resulting rectangle was a bit “off-SNAP”.
That shouldn’t happen.
I Googled “AUTOCAD GRID OFF” and any other combination I could think off.
Though I was able to read dozens of queries about various SNAP and GRID issues, NONE that I found addressed this issue.
I confirmed that SNAP was on and started the LINE command.
As I moved the mouse I watched the coordinates displayed next to the crosshairs.
As I “snapped” from point to point the coordinates SHOULD have always displayed increments of ¼ (.25, .75, 1.0, 1.25, etc) but they did NOT.
As I moved away from the origin (0,0) the ever-growing error could be seen in the coordinate display at the crosshairs.
It was as if the SNAP function was NOT following a “perfect” vertical/horizontal orientation as it moved.
To confirm that I drew a line using coordinates: 0,9 as the start point and 12,9 as the next point.
I restarted the line command and “picked” a start point guided by “snap” that was “close” to the first start point (It wasn’t perfectly on the first line’s start point due the anomaly mentioned in my first paragraph.) and then picked a second point that was “close” to the first line’s endpoint.
The 2 lines were not parallel.
The line drawn with SNAP to dictate its start and endpoints was simply not “horizontal”.
The “Y” coordinate of the start and end points on that line were slightly different.
Somehow the SNAP function was not “snapping” in alignment with the X and Y axes.
After experimenting with settings I found a solution.
But why the solution worked I DO NOT KNOW.
It isn’t “LOGICAL”.
As I typed the command SNAP I saw that command “suggestions” were displayed next to the crosshairs.
I selected these snap options one at a time and through this experimentation I stumbled onto the solution.
The command which “worked” was a command called SNAPANG. In 30 years of working in AutoCAD, both 2D and 3D, I have never used the command SNAPANG.
However, nothing ventured, nothing gained:
I typed the command SNAPANG <enter> then typed 1 <enter>.
Nothing changed.
I reentered the command SNAPANG and then entered the previous value 0 (zero) thinking that I was restoring it to its previous setting and suddenly the GRID appeared and the SNAP followed with perfect alignment with the GRID and in perfect alignment with the X and Y axes. As I entered the LINE command and watched the coordinates displayed at the crosshairs they were now in perfect increments of .25.
As I said initially, since the two command-driven settings that I entered should have simply reversed one another, I have gone into this great detail because I will send this on to AutoCAD’s support people and see if they have any comment. It must be a “bug” in the new version of AutoCAD.

Check the installation of the support files and try again.nil" I checked thru my programs and there is NO geom3d.lsp, exe or arx file. There is in Program files/autocad2013 folder a geom3d.CRX file. I attempted to copy the original geom3d.ARX file from release 12 into the same folder, went to place the folder in the working directory via the options menu but the directory wouldnt load from the Support File Search Path to the Working Support File Search Path so I placed it in the Program files/autocad2013/support directory and loaded this directoryinto both the Support File and WOrking Support directory which loaded but the following response showed "Command: _align Initializing... ARXLOAD failed" How can I get this command to work as it was fine in Autocad 2012 before I upgraded.
