I realize it may be a Civil3D question. When I change my drawing scale in the "Drawing Settings" dialog box to 1"=40', for example. The Annotative scale in the Properties Palette changes to 1"=40'_XREF.

How to scale drawing with dimension lines without changing dimensions in dimension lines? I got drawing with correct dimension lines but geometry is wrong.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to create a 'drawing scale' defined attribute inside my title block when brought into paper space? I tried setting it up using 'plotscale' fieldname with various formats and it keeps coming in as 1" = 1' or 1:1 rather than 1" = 20' because that's what my plot scale is inside paper space but my drawing scale is 20 scale. If I bring the title block in model space, it adjusts, but I don't plot from model space. Surely there's a way to make this automated inside paper space.
Also, I just setup a 'Date' attribute inside my title block today. What's the difference between Date, Saved Date and Plot Date? Will 'Date' update if its in a drawing and opened up a month from now and saved or do i need to take 'Date' out and replace with 'Saved Date' or Plot Date'?.
How to make the dimension get bigger and smaller as we “scale” the drawing?
For example, the drawing in the screenshot below is scaled by 0.5 but that didn’t affect the “size” of the dimension (height of the text, extension lines, …).
Is there a way to get the dimension line affected as we scale the drawing such that the “dimension text” and the “extension line” are increased/ decreased with the scale factor?

A2008. Is there a setvar, setenv, registry entry etc. that can be used to change the scale of Multileaders with annotative off to have the same effect that DIMSCALE has on Q leaders? I want to have a single scale-independent Multileader style and modify it on the fly along with DIMSCALE and LTSCALE. I'd use Qleader but UCS's do odd things to text position and orientation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using AutoCAD for many many years and only recetnly discovered the "MEASUREMENT" command. This has allowed me to work out why some hatches are larger than others but I still don't understand hatches! I have a few questions,
Lets establish some things I know,.
1) MEASUREMENT 1 is for us metric people.
2) HPSCALE alters the hatch scale for all drawn hatches after
3) Default for HPSCALE is 1 (tiny in metric)
Now the questions:
1) Does the hatch scale relate to any type of distance variable? e.g. the gap between the lines in ANSI31 is say 5 times the hatch scale or is this totally and unterly random?
2) If there is a logic behind it, does this apply to all hatches in ACADISO.PAT? e.g. scale of 10 produces 10mm gaps in all hatches? (I know it doesn't but there must be some logic to it? Surely?)
2) If the hatch scale is not logical (see Q1) what is the point in the meaurement command and ACAD.PAT and ACADISO.PAT files?
Is there a way to have VARIABLE text size AND BLOCK SIZE autocad 2012, for different scales sizes? To sum it up I am running 1/8th scale on some of the pages in the set with a 1/4 blow up section. I use addressable devices so it is a lot of work to change all the text Is there anything that will auto-update the text size per scale with out having to go through my drawing and repeat all the text and VPfreeze it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.
I am having some problems getting the hang of applying the drawing scale to my assignment. I understand the scale factor that is applicable to the printing only and that AutoCAD doesn't care about the units used...but something is not clicking here and I'm sure it is pretty simple. My assignment requires me to draw 3 simple structures at 1/8" scale on 11X17 paper. Each house is 20' long with 10' walls and each is done in absolute, relative, and polar. I actually completed the work with all 3 formats without specifying the scale or paper size, just to get familiar with the commands. But now that I am trying to set the dimensions correctly, I cannot replicate my work because I'm getting lost in the way things are defined. I am using AutoCAD 2005, also have a 2002 version to which I can defer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have recently noticed that after printing a PDF of a drawing I plotted from AutoCAD we are coming up with differences when we double check the scale on the printed hardcopy using a carpenter ruler.
For example, there is a dimension labeled on the drawing of 200 ft. However, if I try to scale this out with a carpenter's ruler at the drawing was set to (say for instance it is 1 inch = 100 ft) I am coming up short of the 2 inches it should be (typically come up around an 1-15/16" or around 194 feet, approx 97% of the correct amount).
In the Page Setup Manager in AutoCAD, I have the following options selected (see the print screen as well):
Printer/plotter selected: DWG to PDF.pc3
Paper Size: ANSI full bleed B (11.00 x 17.00 Inches)
What to Plot: Layout
I don't have a plot scale scale other than the default 1" = 1'
No plot style selected
Then, on the print menu when I open the PDF that I have exported from AutoCAD, I have the following settings (see the print screens I have attached):
Printer: The printer I use (Konica Minolta c650 Series PCL)
And I have selected the Options "Auto Rotate and Center" and "Choose paper source by PDF page size**"
** Note, that I have tried unselecting the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option and accordingly changed the paper size in the "Page Setup..." button at the btoom to match the document size (i.e. 11.0 x 17.0in) and it gets the difference to be closer (i.e. I now get 198 ft but some of my border gets cut off). See the print screen below for this a print screen of the print menu and sub-menu of Page Setup showing the paper size selected.
I saw that some people in other forums state that there is no real solution when trying to scale off of PDF's and that there should be a disclaimer saying as much if you are to send the file out to a customer who may rely on doing some in the field scaling from the printed copy of the PDF file. I find it hard to believe there is no solution as we have received some drawings from others whom the scaling works just fine.
I work in autocad 2010 and I draw in scale 1:1 . What an annotation scale is, moreover I have never used annotative objects in my drawings.
Nonetheless, when I try to plot a drawing, while I am in the model view, I choose the scale in mm/units, I select the plot area and when I press preview or plot, I get the message THE ANNOTATION SCALE IS NOT EQUAL TO THE PLOT SCALE. DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE?
I press yes, I print it and the outcome is always a bit smaller than it should be.
When i am in the layout mode and I try to plot, I dont get this message. But I dont know how scaling works in this case. For example I want to plot in a A4 paper, scale 1:100. So I type 1000mm/100units, as I did in the model mode, but the result is wrong.
My scale list has metric list on it as it suppose to have both metric and imperial scale.

Is there a variable I can pull to get the coordinate system zone assigned to the drawing? For instance, if my drawing is in UTM coordinates, zone 13, is there a (retrievable) variable set to "UTM27-13"?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are in the middle of implementing AutoCAD 2013 to replace 2010 so at the moment I am converting / modifying our own code to suit the AutoCAD 2013 API.
One of our routines collects data from drawings (drawings are not fysically opened in AutoCAD) using the system variables 'LimMin' and 'LimMax' in order to collect all objects drawing within the titleblock.
Point2d min2d = (Point2d) Application.GetSystemVariable("LimMin");
Point2d max2d = (Point2d) Application.GetSystemVariable("LimMax");
Only the objects in the titleblock area need to be processed and this gives the engineers also the opportunity to add extra information outside the titleblock. We have used this method in 2007 and 2010 releases of AutoCAD succesfully.
But with AutoCAD 2013 I have run into a snag. As said does this routine not fysically open the drawing in AutoCAD it merely adresses the 'autocad database' so to speak. It seems that 2013 selects the variables from an opened active drawing instead of the 'opened' drawing by the routine. What do I need to modify in the lines of codes stated above to get this rouine up and running?
The workaround for this moment is to skip the collection in the titleblock area al together and select all objects in the entire drawing which does not speed up things very much
know of a variable which controls how stretching with grips works. I've got a single machine with Autodesk Architecture 2012 that when I select a grip and move it, then type a dimension in the command line, that the line becomes the dimension I typed, not the amount I moved it. For example, If i have 10" line, select and end grip, stretch it +3 inches or -3 inches, the line becomes an absolute of 3 inches. On all other machines, the line would either become 13" or 7".

The dynamic input is off.
I am finding with certain types of fonts, mostly on architectural title sheets, that they get substituted to romans font. When I go to the Fontalt Setting Variable though and enter a period for no selection and then regen, all the 'missing" font regenerates and looks fine.
My question is why is the font not appearing properly in the first place? I must have the font if it is appearing properly.I don't want to have to reset the fontalt variable everytime I want to plot a drawing!
When I use the measure distance command, I have to exit out of the command before I move on to my next command. I'm used to measuring once and the command automatically exits (in previuos releases). Is there a variable that will exit the command after one measurement?

1-It's possible to have variables that are attached to the file?
2-It's possible to insert a block of ToolPalettes by "forcing" the layer and size with the variables created.
ex : block outlet created on the layer 0
Drawing A:
variable layer = power
variable size = 1/4
When I insert the block outlet from my Tool palettes it will be on the layer "PPOW" and perform a scale of "48"
Drawing B:
variable layer = LowPower
variable size = 3/8
When I insert the block outlet from my Tool palettes it will be on the layer"LPOW" and perform a scale of "32"
We are unable to set the value for system variable "INSNAME" .
It is returning nothing after assigning values for this variable.
We are using below statement for setting the value.
Application.SetSystemVariable("INSNAME ", "test.dwg");
(We are working in AutoCAD 2010. using programming language as .net 3.5).
We are getting ready to deploy 2010 and I am writing a script to set some of the system variables on all the installs.
We have some users with 3rd party programs that won't run in 2010 yet so we will have a few people still running 2007 and 2008. I want to set the default File Save As in my script to 2007 format but I can't seem to find a variable to modify this.
In case I wasn't clear this is the setting found in Options, under the Open and Save tab, in the File Save section.
I need to show contour lines that have the elevations embedded in the line. Is there any way to create a line type that will allow me to select and/or change the text to be embedded in the line, without having to define a unique linetype for each elevation?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting my text height to change user the 'textsize' system variable.
When I input a new height at the command prompt using 'textsize' the text height in the text style dialogue box does not automatically change to match. Also when I use the dtext or mtext command after changing the textsize value, these commands use the value in the text style dialogue box instead.
According to the documentation the FRAME system variable overrides XCLIPFRAME, IMAGEFRAME, etc., has four valid values, 0, 1, 2, or 3, and its initial default value is 3. While editing a drawing, I set FRAME to 0, and then some time later, tried to set it back to 3. AutoCAD refused to accept this value, saying "Requires an integer between 0 and 2." Typing (SETVAR "FRAME" 3) at the command line also failed. The only way I could get it back to 3 was to use UNDO to go back to the default value. Is this a bug?

When I attempt to change my user variable "xyz", a linear restraint, by 4 or more, I get an error message, "A dependent expression cannot be evaluated. View 7 Replies View RelatedI use a building key for building reference (inserted as a xref into the individual drawings) in many of my drawings. I have layers for specific areas and rooms. I turn off the layers on the appropriate drawings (if the drawing is for room 301, I make sure all other layers are off and only 301 are on).
My problem come when I add a new layer to the key and since the key in xrefd into many drawings it shows up as always being on.
This makes to have to go back and do a little bit of layer control each time I change the xref.
VISRETAIN=1 only keeps the layers set to last save and everything added to the xrefs are basically taken from the xref (color, visibility, etc). Is there a way to set a variable so that you have to check the new xref layers before they show up on the referenced drawing?
What is the variable that controls the order in which objects are selected? In other words, I want to be able to always select the last object created by default when objects are overlapping without using object cycling.
