What is the layer "Status" in the layer property manager? It doesn't correlate with the On/Off or Freeze/Thaw . The icon appears to be a sheet of paper but some are blue and others are gray. I cant tell what makes them change colors from blue to gray.

If a color is selected from either the properties or quick properties dialog boxes, one of the choices the color icon with both black and white and a diagonal separator (which produces white on the screen and black on the plotter) which I will consider the default.
On the Layer Property Managers dialog box, however, while the full color pallet is available, I cannot find a way of setting the layer color to the default. Once a layer color has been changed from the default, how does one put it back to the default color?
I opened a drawing this morning that was sent to me by another office. I tried to open the layer property manager and it gave me a message that there were more layer filters than layers and that I should delete some of the filters. I said ok, but the property manager dialog box never opened. Now I can't open the layer property manager dialog box in any of my drawings.

but using ~*-E (tilde asterix hyphen E) returns all the layer names that end with a "-E"
does the tilde not function with LayerProperty Filters?

I need importing and exporting custom layer property filters. Long story short, we XREF a lot of mechanical equipment in our models and when we create a structural drawing make all of the mechanical item print in a light ghosted color. I created a layer property filter with a huge list of all the possible equipment prefix's like *cl-* *tk-* *rv-* and so on to filter out all the equipment layers. It took a long time to create, so I want to export it and import it into future drawing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing CAD2011, froze, I restarted it and reopened the file I was working in. In my ribbon, all layers read "0", but show the correct ByLayer color according to what layers they were on before the crash. If I list something, it shows the correct layer, and not that it's on "0". When my coworker opens the same file everything is as it should be, which leads me to believe some setting got messed up during this crash.
It is making work way more difficult than it should be - I can't see what layers are what!
I have a Xref with multiple Layer States,
I xref'd it into a sheet with Floor plan Layer States,
nowi want to Xref it in again with the Ceiling Plan Layer Staes.
Just to be clear i want the same Xbase Xref'd in a sheet twice with 2 different layer states. how do i do this????
Let's say you create a floor plan, and you use the Layer State manager to separate the framing plan, finish plan, reflected ceiling plan, etc. Now, when you go to create a sheet, you xref this plan into model space with all of the layers thawed/on, go to your titleblock in paper space and make a viewport.
Currently, if I click into a viewport and use the Layer State manager to show just the information of the RCP, it will freeze all of the layers I don't need, but it will freeze those layers in model space, instead of just within the viewport. It gets very time consuming doing it the way I always understood to do it; making sure all layers are thawed/on in model space, and then going into each viewport and manually VP-freezing each layer I don't need.
So can Layer States be set up to work within viewports, to only have those layers VP-frozen?
Layers are shown in the drop down menu from the ribbon but when I open the layer manager no layers are visible. I can click in the empty space and the layer will highlight. See attached.

I have noticed when changing colors in the layer manager it does not take the first time and sometimes the second either. It does not seem to matter if creating a new layer or simply modifying existing.

Having the Layer Properties Manager set up with default filters that show "ALL" layers or "Xref" layers without a default for "Layers Local ONLY" is so counterintuitive and non-user friendly! This is just another example of how Autodesk has absolutely no regard for the end user.

Problem is that each layer row disappears and each time it happens, only solution I know is to restart the computer. See the attached image.
Most annoying thing, the VP Freeze and New VP Freeze columns in the Layer Properties Manager keep resetting themselves to original position. I've done all the proflie stuff, re-save it after changing it, re-load it when I find the error, etc.. and still it reverses every time I restart AutoCAD.
What is it with the columns in dialog boxes? I've posted how the column widths in the File Dialog box reset everytime too. How they don't follow windows folder options. Is this some Windows issue or AutoCAD issue?

Layer manager keep loosing the icons that represent a function. When you open layer manager, there are some icons on top of the layer manager page, one functions as make layer current, the other one to create a new layer & so on. these icons after a few time that we use layer command they all disappear, the only way to fix it is to close autocad & open it again. Of course if we use classic layer manager then things are ok but classic layer manage rhas uts own problems & limitations also.
My own guess is that the commad "layer" which invoke layer manager has memory leak, & when it is used a few time basically makes your system works on less memory resources & the only way to fix it is to abort the operation & start every thing all over again.
When I use the Layer Isolate command, then use the Layer Unisolate command, everything seems to work fine, as far as displaying the correct layers again. However, when I go to the Layer Manager, I noticed that all frozen or frozen in current viewport are also turned off.
LAYISO set to OFF (use fade?)
This only happens in a maximized viewport, not in model space.
When I try to add new layers the layer propert manager is notvisable. I have to hit escape to return to the drawing. I beliesve the dialog box may be trying to go to a second screen I use at home. This happens on my lap top when it is not connected to my second moniter..
View 6 Replies View RelatedLT 2013. Under Layer Ctrl, the status tab (light blue sheet of paper icon), highlights as light blue (in use), regardless of whether or not its in use. The only way I can force a refresh is deleting / attempting to delete a layer (eg. del '0' which obviously dosen't work); but forces an update, where those in use remain light blue, and those not in use revert to white/grey.
how I can fix this quirk of not updating/refreshing when the Layer Ctrl is opened.
When in the layer properties manager....then in the layer filter properties....when i click into the 2nd tab "status" it shows me 4 icons when using the drop down icon..what are each of these representing
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I highlight any object in model space the layer control, color control or line type control does not change from the current layer status to the layer of the high lighted object if it is different. I am also not able through this layer control bar able to high light an object and use the fly out arrow to go into the layers and change this object to another desired layer for this object. I have never seen this function just not work before and can find no setting or preference that might not be turned on to make it function. why it is not functioning?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed 2011 and was in the process of setting up my workspace when I realized i could not find the Status Bar pull down on the View Tab/Windows Panel. Help still says it is there. When I went into the CUI I could not find the command or even the icon. I know that you can right click and edit the status bar buttons but you can only do them one at a time and then you have to right click again to get rid or add the next button and then right click again....the drop down, available in the last several releases enabled you to just check them on or off all at one time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to reload a bunch of xref's through the project support path that I have setup, Really the project support path should be able to reload all the xref if they are already there. The problem is that the xrefs that im trying to reload ( the staus: says Unfreferenced and the type: Attachment) and when I type in the project name and then reload the xrefs, they should be able to find and link the xref to the drawing, but Im getting a a message saying that the xrefs are Orphaned and the status is Unreferenced. Its as though the system cant seem to find the xrefs with my projectname support path that I have setup.

As you look across the top of the layer manager I can see all the headings of each column beginning with "Name", "Status", "On" and so forth. The last column heading I see is "Description" but I need to go even further to the right to get to the column I need to be at but can't get there. There is no scroll button on the bottom of the layer manager which would allow me to do that.

In 2008 before the floating layer manager the manager looked as the Classic version does now in AutoCAD ACA 2012 with the tool of "new layer from standard". This tool now only seems to be in the floating layer manager and when I switch to Classic manager the "new layer from standard" is removed from the dialog box.
I want to use the classic dialog but have access to the "new layer from standard" tool
I'm currently using AutoCAD LT 2012 and when I create a new layer and set it as current in the layer manager, regardless of what color I set the new layer to, the new layer's color remains the same as the previous one in the properties box even though the colors of the layers are always set to "by layer."
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have the Cardinal Toolbar and the Layer Properties Toolbar (one that allows you to toggle between layer groups ... for example floor levels) installed on our AutoCAD LT 2006 software for a PC. We are looking to purchase AutoCAD LT 2013 for a MAC. We have downloaded the trial version, and cannot find these toolbars on the new version. Our files are set-up to function with these toolbars. Is there any way to download these toolbars for the new version? If not, are there commands we can use to change the cardinal direction in model space and to toggle between floor level layers (groups?)?
