View 3 Repliesso we receive several hundred autocad drawings from five groups across the country. each group has their own format - they each have their own titleblocks, some do their layouts in modelspace, others in paperspace, some use attributes, some use tables, some are just awful, layering is all over the place, etc etc.
the one common thread between all groups is that the actual drawings are all in model space. anyway we would like to see all these drawings eventually become standardized.
i don't think any of the groups will go for a 'start from scratch' approach. ideally i would give them a template that everyone in my office is happy with, and a layering standard of some sort, and tell the groups to all hire summer students and get cracking. unfortunately i think there will be a lot of resistance to this approach.
so here's what i'm thinking so far:
1. i let each region keep their own titleblocks, but ask them to add any missing information that we need. i would like them to use attributes if possible (some already do, some don't), because i get the feeling that down the road if i wanted to present them with a standard 'titleblock', it would be easier to export the attribute data into my new titleblock. can this be done?
2. i am going to push them to use a standardized layering system. (right now the layers are all over the place).
3. the drawings, for the most part, consist of building outlines and room names (or at least this is the information my group is most concerned with). all five groups have a room legend in model space that lists the room name and number. i'm going to see if they can put this information in a table, because it will be easier to export this data into our database. right now one group already uses tables, 3 use multitext, and one uses a bunch of single line text. i will also tell the groups what font to use, and what size the font should print at. (rather than get involved with whether they should make their text annotative or put it in paperspace, etc.)
4. each drawing should have a key plan. some groups already include this, and i think they all have the key plan as a xref, which is fine by me. i'm going to ask the other groups to include an xref'd key plan as well.
5. i'm not going to worry about lineweights too much - the drawings are uncomplicated and we can generally print as a single lineweight, so i can just have a .ctb file that reduces all colors to a single black lineweight.
6. ideally i would like them to hatch their buildings and provide me with the area of each building. i guess a field in the titleblock would be the easiest thing to do here?
anyway that's about as far as i've gotten. when i type this all out, it seems like just as much work as starting from scratch. also, if we decide to go this route and have the groups all 'update' their drawings, i'm hoping that we end up with drawings that all have the same layers, same title block info (in attributes), and tables with the room numbers and names... and i'm also hoping that with this information, i could create a template with an 11x17 layout with a standard titleblock, and somehow be able to batch import/export these drawings into this new template. do you think that will be possible to do at that point?
I was wanting to create a script to go through and clean up a bunch of drawings in a given folder. I've written a lisp routine (cleanx) that works fine when you run it on a single drawing, but I'm having some trouble integrating it into a script. As it is currently, I'm experiencing several issues -
1) It prompts the user for an 'object' after finding 0 objects. It seems to be caused by the line,
(command "-layer" "u" "*" "t" "*" "on" "*" "" "")
in 'cleanx' based on the text window, but I'm not sure why it does that given that if I run cleanx directly it doesn't prompt me.
2) It ends with saying 'Really want to discard all changes to drawing?' which confused me as I use Qsave before I close, and then confused me further when I realized that the text window suggests that this prompt comes up after the 'open' command, and that if I type <Y> (exit without saving) then it asks me to select a file. Why doesn't it save, close and then open the next file automatically?

I'm trying to recreate a bunch of IV-Studio settings to match a bunch of renders made by previous staff that did not leave behind the assembly files they used to make them in the first place.
I've ran into a problem with some parts displaying incorrectly. (they display incorrectly in the render/in the studio environment/ in the assembly/ and when in the part file) I've played with material and appearance styles but they have no effect, I've also tried quality/performance/compatibility hardware modes.
We have 5 or 6 parts that share the ridge pattern that is causing problems and they are affected in the same way.I'm running XP(32), IV2012-sp2, fx1800 with 6.14.0012.6570 drivers.
Our team is doing program customization in Inventor 2011 that extract drawings based on 3D model. When the program runs and reached the line that has either open, close and save method, Inventor program automatically terminated and “Inventor Send Error Report” appears. When we tried to debug the program and when it reached the line that has either open, close, and save method, we force to exit our customized program but the same case, when it is totally terminated, Inventor program also terminated and “Inventor Send Error Report” appears. When we investigate the problem, we tried several solutions such as setting the active document to new variable, added a method to pause the program for few seconds, etc but still no effect.
Is there a VBA for Inventor that is intended for 64 bit machine? Because I think we use 32 bit VBA in Inventor. What does “Inventor32bitHost.exe” means in task manager? Is there any relation to Inventor VBA?
For some reason my dimensions are exploded automatically in some of my drawings. (The arrows and lines are not connected) Only certain drawings though-other drawings are perfectly fine. I've tried pasting dimensions into the drawings and that doesn't work!!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't remember ever using this checkbox on the Publish dialog box but today i want to and i can't figure out how to make it work. The help file ~seems~ to say that if i select this, the contents of all open documents (layouts and/or model space) are automatically loaded.... but they don't.
I know i can pick the Add Sheets button and manually select all the drawings i have open but doesn't that defeat the purpose of this checkbox?
I'm trying to gauge interest / opinions in this AutoCAD add on for automatically binding and PDFing drawings ready for issuing - it also adds the revision to the file name.

I'm getting this error message in a cmd window.
'AutoCAD_2012_SP2_64bit.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I ran the following in the folder where the exe is.
AutoCAD_2012_SP2_64bit.exe /e AutoCAD_2012_SP2_64bit.msp
I'm figuring the UAC is probably biting me...
Is it possible to extract coordinates to a spreadsheet or display them on screen of points in AutoCad. I would like to know the coordinates of all the intersections of the lines in the model shown in the attached pdf. The 3d model was drawn in Revit as model lines. If there is a simple way to draw this shape in AutoCad, it is part of a torus.I imported it into AutoCad as Revit had a few limitations.

I'm thinking SVG, but is there a more efficient method, something that can modify Illustrator files directly?
i basically need to extract all the blocks and quantities used in a drawing as the drawing we make are usually really big and takes time to pan around to count all blocks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI design a small plant in Autocad 2012. For the pipes we used cylinders, now we need to make the bill of materials, but I don't know how to extract the data from each cylinder(radius and height), after I will be able to do this, I can make the material list, but I don't know how and I am having so many cylinders.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've spent the last 4 hours searching for an answer to this question, but I simply can't find one.
As a start I think you have to know that I'm currently using AutoCAD 2012.
Here's the problem: I need to extract some info from an AutoCAD table to a reference file that can be opened in Microsoft Excel. Everything I find on the subject is actually an answer to the question "How does <DATAEXTRACTION> work?" or "How to do an extraction of DATA in AutoCAD?"....
In this particular case I have a set of production drawings (cut tickets) for manufacturing of stone. And in every single sheet I have this material schedule or a table, if you wish, that is made with an AutoCAD table. In this schedule I have the height, width and thickness of the stone plate and with a function it measures it's area and volume. What I want to do is to extract those values into a reference file that I can open with Microsoft Excel, as I already said.
How exactly?
I have multiple of the same drawings. The drawing will stay the same but the device names will be different for each drawing. Is there a way to have a excel lookup table for each device and each drawing can reference to ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe drawing “zooms to extent” AUTOMATICALLY!
I’m wonder why the attached file zooms to extent AUTOMATICALLY when applying some commands.
For example if I need to use the command “mleaderalign” then the file zooms out AUTOMATICALLY!!!
How to control this very weird behaviour?
Why the file may zoom AUTOMATICALLY?

I am creating seed files for contractors and clients to use. I have created the object data table(s) in AutoCAD Maps beforehand to be able to view/edit in AutoCAD Civil/Civil 3D 2010.
Is there a setting that automatically attaches this data to any object (line, circle, block, etc) drawn in a sheet. I am hoping to skip the step of manually entering "adeattachdata" and then selecting the objects that the object data is to appear. I realize that each sheet would only have one object data table.
My colleague made some drawings using AutoCAD 2011. Somehow the sheet status in Sheet Set Manager says all the drawings are locked for editing - it was unintentional. The drawings can be fully viewed only from the computer, which created the drawings. In other computers, we can only see the text. The model view and the bottom of the drawing which contains drawing number and other info do not show.
We need to deliver our drawings to the customer so they can see the coordinates in the maps/drawings.
How could we change the status or unlock it so the customer can view the entire drawings? If possible, we still want the drawings unable to be edited.
In our computer, we have AutoDesk Vault - did it somehow kicked in automatically?
Is there a way to set the “lineweight” to be Color-based automatically?
I’m wondering if there is a way to set the lineweight to be color-based such that all the objects have the same color will take the same lineweight automatically.
Sure, we can control such behavior through the “bylayer” feature but I’m not sure if this very particular behavior might exist in the AutoCAD; color-based lineweigth!

My company has many clients that each have different pen table, text styles, directories, templates etc. What we would like to do is create a toolbar/ribbon that does the following but not limited too:
1) Change the CUI file to the current client
2) repath AutoCAD so that the program will find templates, textstyles, pen tables, etc unique to that client (we keep each client setup files like this in separate directories)
I am sure there are other variables, pathes, toolbars etc we will need to change as well. What I would like is a toolbar button or ribbon button to do this seamlessly so that each user can quickly and efficiently change from one client to another.
how I can accomplish this or variables that would need to be changed in a LISP routine etc
I'm using Cad 2011,how do u generate 2D drawings from a 3D object,i know that the command only works on layout n on 2013 the command is "Base".So wat is it on 2011?
