If I can convert or extract a flat sheet layout from a 3D cylinder. I would like to provide a 3rd. party Laser Cutting shop with a flat layout to cut my cylinder walls from.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPart of my job is to lay out blanks of 3D models so the blank can be sent out and cut. Is there a way to convert an Inventor ipt file to a flat blank? I have tried "convert to Sheet Metal" but Inventor reads the pre-bent part as the flat layout. I am currently using Inventor 2013. i attached a drawing for an example.

Workflow: Created a 2D sketch in xy plane and extruded -1084 mm in z dir. Created cut, and extruded slots which were then patterned with rectangular pattern.
Converted to sheet metal, and then tried to flat pattern.
Tried to remove all features exept the 1st extrude, still having the same problem.
I have tried to set the correct material and sheet metal defaults, but still no luck.
I have an issue with flat layouts, when a draw a round object such as a rolled punched plate it would be nice to have the flat layout show what the hole callout and spacing would be, however with the way i draw the model. the holes come out as an ellipse, attached is a document showing how i drew the model.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to use a macro in Inventor 2013 I found on the Mod The Machine blog to lay out the parts of an assembly. They're wood (not sheet metal), and the purpose is to create a drawing/cutlist with flat views of all the parts for easier DXF extraction.
The issue is that not all the parts in our assemblies are created with the length and width on the XY plane. So, some parts are laid flat on the XY and some stand up straight. How do I modify this code to look at the XZ and YZ planes as well for length and width?

I am able to extract an flat pattern (for round to square) but not exactly as the customers drawing.
The original drawing shows some relief in bending lines which i am not able to add in inventor. after a glance at the attachments you will clearly understand what i want.
Where I work we do a lot of plate and punch holes in beams for rebar. Is there a way to pull the flat patteren layout of sheet metal and convert to an NC1 file. I can export to a DXF but then i must manually go in and make changes to the DXF in order for it to cut right on our plasma and laser tables. As far as punching holes and cutting beams any clues on this either? We were outsourcing our drafting work before but now we are switching over to in house. I have contacted our supplier of plate nesting software and it looks like they sell something but that means another license of it on another computer.

I think for the moment I'll skip the mouth and ears and eyes aren't so hard to sort. What I can't find however, is any information on how I would go about making the face, hair and neck. What seems easiest for a cack-handed individual such as myself is to use a photo (flat-lit, straight-on, neutral expression, unobscured) of someone's face and then deform it and use some clone-like tools to fill in any gaps.
Obviously I'll need to match the coordinates of particular points on the face and keep large sections entirely unmodified. Then I'll need to do some sort of cloning or smudging to extrapolate bits of the head I don't have.
Well, is it even possible to work from a photo (or couple of photos).
how can i get a flat pattern for an object with more than one rip? it only gives me half the flat pattern.

In previous versions I could create a flat polygon mesh by typing "3D" and have an option to create a planar mesh "M" X "N" by specifying the 4 corners along with M and N. I don't see a way to draw this mesh in 2012 without having to ID every vertices. This procedure is listed in the Legacy portion of Help, but I do not see a way to do it.

I have a 3d object and I am making my title block. I remember a few semesters ago being taught how to get your front, top, right and iso view from inserting the 3d object into the layout. I can't remember for the life of me how. The layout already has the object in it but it's only the main view.
I am using auto cad 2006.

Can I do all drawings at once or can I only do one at the time ?
I'm using the convert to .dgn function of ACAD and I'm getting a message that tells me I can't use the 2D seed file because there are one or more objects not in the Z = 0 plane. There shouldn't be anything not in the Z = 0 plane. I've used the FLATTEN command and all that seems to do is reproduce a block (and the same block every time thats not even part of my object selection). I can't seem to find the object(s) that are not Z = 0 using all methods I can think of. Does the 'NORMAL Z' have something to do with this?

I extruded the leaf 1" first, then tried to copy it on a solid cylinder of a vase, but it didn't work!!! It seems to be simple, maybe not!
When I select an object and pan to make another selection the first object "deselects". The object(s) will stay selected until I pan and as soon as I start to pan the grips go away and the object(s) is deselected.

Able2Extract – Works very well when it does. Creates everything on 1 layer. Has options to use Autocad 2000 color palette or Autocad 2004 color palette. 2004 palette usual fails. Program works 50% of the time.
Aide PDF to DXF – Worked very well, once. Tried multiple floor plans and it came out chicken scratch.
AutoDWG VectorNow - Terrrrribllleeeeeee.
AlgoLab Raster 2 Vector – Miserable failure.
Any decent programs to convert these files?
I have a company logo that is a jpeg, I can insert it in a title block but when i print the drawing in black and white it is a blur due to the dark colors in the logo. Is there a way to convert it to a drawing so I can adjust colors/size to plot properly?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI created a drawing for a label in AutoCAD. The labels are made on an etching machine that we have and apparently the machine only accepts files in the BMP format. When I convert my drawing to a bitmap (export command), the images that I have in the label drawing (logos etc..) show up in the bitmap with borders around the images. I had set "imageframe" to 1 so I could select them when exporting the drawing. Another on of the images only has the border come in but nothing inside of the border?

I usually use Inventor to create a model from customer supplied blueprints, and then use the model to get the 2D geometry into
AutoCAD for further processing.
Now, unfortunately Inventor has a pitiful 2D drawing method, where circles and arcs that do not lie exactly on the plane end up as a spline.
They are true arcs and circles and should be true arcs and circles on the 2D view, but aren't.
What I would like to do is turn them into one.
Is there any command or method to do that?
I was hoping that Overkill would work ..... it doesn't.
I was given a .sat file from a third party company. When i pull it into CAD 2011 it comes in as a "body". It views like a wireframe object. I can't slice, subtract, union, etc. when i import it to Navis works it views like wireframe. The problem with this is that i can't run clash detection against this part then.
Any way to convert it to a solid?
I am looking for a method to convert 3d surfaces or regions into 3d faces so that they can be imported in RISA. I currently have a model with 3d faces (see attached), but do not know a method for adding the openings shown in red.
