AutoCAD 2010 :: Batch Area Calculations

Mar 13, 2012

I am using autocad to find areas of a stream cross section such that when we take a water height measurement of the stream in the field, we can easily get the area from a spreadsheet since the cross section of the stream at any height will be known (once I get done in AutoCAD).

To further illustrate my needs, I have attached a picture. I need all the seperate areas between the red lines (the red lines are equally spaced vertically and have lengths that go end to end to the edges of the stream).

I have been hatching between the red lines and taking the areas of each hatched object. However, this is a slow and tedious process.

Hatching is not the issue because I can hatch multiple objects at once using the create seperate hatch option.
What I need is a way to list all the hatched object's areas into a text file so that I can easily copy and paste them into an excel file. Even if it is not a nice and neat list, I can atleast use a find for "area" to get them into a nice list a little faster.

AutoCAD LT :: Area Calculations In 2013?

Dec 17, 2012

I am trying to calculate the area of the attached file.  Just the Blue section.  Is there a faster way to calculate the area than using the "area" command, then going through and selecting each line, then each arc, over and over again?  I also tried making a poliline that follows the entire pattern at the width I wanted, then using the "area" command for the "object" that is the poliline.  This is faster, but does not give me the correct area.  It says that the calculated area does not take into consideration the width of the poliline.  The width of the poliline is very important in my application, and will sometimes be changed.  Than a new area will be needed with the new width.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Room Area Calculations

Any routine or tool that simplifies calculating and labeling floor areas?

Currently, I draw a polyline around the desired area, list it to get the square footage and then create a text line and type in the square footage.  This method takes multiple steps and is easy to mistype the area.

I would love a simple tool that would let you draw a polyline and automatically label it for you.

AutoCAD LT :: Constructing Floorplans - Area Calculations In M2

May 6, 2004

I am relatively new to AutoCAD LT and I am constructing floorplans and measuring the area in m2. My problem is that my areas are not adding up correctly. We are investigating possible future redesigning of units, and although the outer boundary of the building is the same, when I add up the individual units this total area does not add up correctly. While trying to figure out what was going on I traced one unit exactly on another layer and compared areas between the two identical polygons....and they have different areas!?!?!?

I have been dealing with a tolerance issue when trying to create room area calculations in Revit. There seems to be a tolerance that is set to somewhere under 9" if two walls are to close together it will ignore the area.

Although if you are using the area calculation this tolerance is set much finer. and it seems to work just fine. I have already tried to create a multicategory schedule but cant combine rooms and areas. I have attached an image .

Is there a way of just going about it the old AutoCAD way via a P-Line?  I know there are no P-Lines in Revit, but is there an easy way of doing this?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Choosing A Plot Area - Non-active Area No Longer Grayed Out

Apr 6, 2009

I've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.

Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.

This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.

In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.

When I am trying to calculate area, i got wrong answer. At very first i thought it calculates area with inches (iam in metric sys), but then i checked options and its answer should be in mm, but I am getting wrong answer. In my object (which is rectangular) there's many other things, like hatch, buildings and so on. Maybe this can abstract for direct answer, because when i draw just a simple square or rectangle.

I am trying to create a template and want everyone to print "layout" as a standard practice. But, if i happen to change to print window and window something off the page the layout space (white area) has now been resized and moved to the area i just windowed.

I want to print something "off the page" this time is no reason to change or modify the LAYOUT area that was initially specified. This never happened before and is not happening to my colleagues, so this must be a local setting.

Fuse
Fuse_1
Fuse_2 etc....

is there a lisp routine or some command that would replace the "Fuse_*" blocks with "Fuse"..I've been searching the forums and know about the express tool Replace Block but need to be able to automate somehow. I thought about trying to rename each of the "Fuse_*" but of course it won't let you rename to a block name that already exists.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Batch Plotting To PDF Margin

Jun 22, 2012

I usually make pdf's by plotting each layout to pdf then combining them with adobe acrobat. Recently i have tried the batch plot to pdf and found that i like it much better but im having a problem with it. I have set up my page sheet manager and have imported my plot sheet settings from a different file. I have checked and double checked that the settings on this file is correct.

My problem is that when i create the batch plot and select the page setup when i create the pdf it cut the left and right side of the page off like there are margins or something. I have created a pdf my plotting to pdf on an individual page and printed it and compared to my batch plot and they are the same scale and size on the paper but the batch plot cuts it off on the sides. I need to get it to print like the plot to pdf so that it is to scale.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Apparent Error In Area Command

Dec 4, 2012

I have a 3D polyline (blue in attached) for which I am trying to calculate the surface area. I use the area-->object command and get 1912342m2 in AutoCAD 2012. My colleague uses the same command in AutoCAD LT 2009 and gets 1807093m2. Due to the discrepancy, I roughly traced a polyline (yellow in attached) around the area in AutoCAD 2012 and I get approx. 1810000m2 so assumedly the AutoCAD LT 2009 version is giving the correct answer while my AutoCAD 2012 is not!

Why am I getting a different area for the polylines...is the difference is due to it being a 3D polyline?  Is there a way I can ensure I obtain the correct area using the 3D polyline?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Why Is The Printable Area Bigger Than Sheet

Nov 30, 2012

I have an 11 x 17 border (true). I am printing on an 11 x 17 sheet (true). I have specified 11 x 17 sheet in plot dialogue box.

SO WHY IS MY PRINTABLE AREA 11.5 X 17.5??

i have established LIMITS at the corners of my border. there is nothing else outside the border.

this is for a template. i would like to establish the 11 x17 LAYOUT and lock it in position, never to be changed again. If someone wants to print a portion or outside they can use WINDOW, or EXTENTS, but, when LAYOUT is selected i want to see an 11 x17 rectangle eliminating from the 0,0 point and nothing else.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Cannot Center Drawing In Printable Area

Nov 9, 2011

Plotting to layout (as opposed to extents or window) is infuriating. I cannot get my drawing to center properly within the printable area, and I can find no consistency on how AutoCAD is offsetting my drawing. My titleblock is drawn with a trim line of 22x34". I choose the ANSI D sheet size which is 22x34" and when I preview the plot the bottom left corner is offset from the bottom left corner of the printable area by .25, .25.

If I delete the 22x34 trim line from my titbleblock and replace it with a simple point at the 0, 0 bottom left corner, then when I check the layout and printable area, the point shows up offset from the bottom left corner of the printable area by .0006, .0016. Why is it any different than when a line was drawn? If I delete the point the offset from the bottom left corner of the printable area to the closest drawn element then becomes .0013, .0012.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I want to batch plot and I want to have proper margins, but it seems nothing renders consistently and I am stuck with ill-formatted plots. I would love to batch plot to extents, but as I go through the setup, that is not an option for me, so I appear to be stuck with the layout, which I have never gotten to work properly since it was introduced. What is the trick to make it work?

I am just printing to Adobe PDF with the Acrobat printer.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Measuring Area Using Override Dimensions?

Jun 13, 2012

I am responsible for populating a database in which one of the fields is the area of individual rooms in a building. The instructions indicated that I was to use polylines to enclose each room / area and to find the area based on these values.

Earlier this year, another student was hired to confirm the measurements on building blueprints. This student took accurate measurements of each room, however instead of correcting the drawings, he simply added override text to the dimensions. Therefore the displayed dimensions are correct but my area values using polylines are inaccurate.

The project that I'm working on includes a number of drawings and close to 1000 rooms. I downloaded a function I found online that allows me to figure out which dimensions were overridden by boxing them in a different colour and I've found that it is a significant ammount.

Is there a way to use these overridden dimensions, without altering the physical nature of the drawing, to find the area of a room?Need to use polylines to calculate area of many rooms. Dimensions have been overridden and are inaccurate. Can i use the overridden dimensions without altering the physical drawing?
