I'm more or less happy with annotation scaling, apart from the mysterious hatching problems that are not the issue of this message.
But there is a major annotative scaling issue with batting / insulation lines. Insulation lines should NOT change with annotative scaling ! A 4" insulation layer shouldn't become 16" just because i'm printing in bigger scale !
Having problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.
Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?
I am currently writing a series of routines for setting the layers for text, leaders and dimension commands. The end goal is a system where any annotation command sets the correct layer for the duration of the command, then reverts back to the layer that was active before the command.
I have managed to complete all the code, and it appears to be working fine, I just have one question: I have used -layer "m" "Lay_name" etc... for all layer setting commands, rather than any code to see if the layer exists already. In my limited testing this seems to be suitable, nothing that exists on that layer seems to be affected.
I know how to write code to determine if the layer exists already and set the layer instead, but so far it seems unnecessary??
I’m currently working on getting a system for easier plant layout management. Part of which is condensing what started as 195 mostly random layers into about 15 usable layers.
Problem:
I have about 28 more layers that need to get rid of and I can’t delete them because there are lines assigned to them. However, when I hide all the layers I need so that only the unnecessary layers are showing, there’s nothing there.
Side Note:
I know this problem is most likely because there were layers applied to features deep within blocks. I just don’t want to go through the 700+ block to check each layer assigned to each line.
(This file I was given to start with is a mess. Examples: Some of the blocks have the same exact feature that’s buried 7 blocks deep with no features added to justify an extra bock being there. Some of the blocks aren’t even being used in the layout. Name of the block has no coloration with the actual thing it represents. Stuff like that…)
Question:
Is there a way of hunting down these layers in the blocks to delete / change them without checking each individual block? Or is it possibly because the layer i need to get rid of is applied to a block that’s not being used in the layout?
4. Select from a drop down list, "Absurdly Thick Line" and have it instantly inherit the linestyle I created.
The only way I can do this is to create a family, make a new subcategory of Detail Items, create the characteristics I want in the line, export it as a .dwg file, then import it into Revit - and then I see the new line style along side the other line styles, and I can then select any line and make it the new line style.
Certainly, there is an easy to find, simple, straightforward way to add line styles to the existing group - and have those new line styles become immediately accessible from the "Modify Lines" Linestyle Drop down Menu.
What I have is a shape files that contains the road centreline of a city I am working on. And that shape files also have a data of its road name etc.
I know how to do it as FDO (using map connect). But what I require is an autocad text entity.
I can save the map as a drawing. But what I only want is just a number of road names and they are not adjacent or near to each other so map filtering is not recommended.
So what I did, I add the shape files using map import command and added the road name data. And then, I used the command Annotation and do the "define annotation" and "insert annotation". From here, I am doing fine. I created a text/block annotation that will extract the road name on the imported centreline on the line I just selected.
Now, my problem is, all the text are in just one direction (in my case they are all horizontal). I tried playing the "rotation expression" but still without luck.
how or what "rotation expression" should I use to make the text parallel/along the centreline.
I remember seeing an article or web cast on how to create a style to display a single line for a manhole. It may have been about using the parts create tool. But for the life of me, I can’t remember where I saw it.
Also I had created a style in C3D2007 to display the pipes in profile as a single line. This was done by drawing the flow arrow in a non printable colour over the top of the pipe.In C3D2008 this is no longer possible. So now what?
When building an annotation template, in the block editor (annotation editor etc..); how do you take the length of a 2D line or pline to be the display of my template?
Doing a water system map and it would be nice to have a line length with the ' symbol at the end rounded to the nearest foot on each length of pipe.
While labeling Multiple segments (or even single segments) only the LINE labels skip numbers if separated by a CURVE. The CURVES go sequentially but not the LINES.
When you have an annotative object set for a number of different scales, is there a way to turn off the shadow when you mouse over it showing a shadow view of the different scales?
i have an elevation point layer that i'm using in a project and i needed to import it to arcgis for some interpolation.
Problem is, all altimetric points are "B"s instead of being points, and arcgis doesn't recognize them as points. Is there a way of quickly converting them all of them into points?
Take into consideration that we're talking about hundreds, maybe thousands of said "B"s.
We are using in the office annotative blocks with text attributes.
When changing the display annotation scale, the attributes go normally, at the beginning, all back to 0,0,0 point; what we solve by using ATTSYNC command, and works fine; they go back to correct size and location.
But, for some reason in some computers, when closing and saving the file, and opening it again next day, all the attributes, at the same display scale than the day before, are all wrong size and location.
I have tried to uninstall the whole program and install it again from zero, and the same problem persists. What can I do?
I have been trying to export my annotation settings using the profile function on Autocad 2010. I can't get it to work, and I don't think this is the best way to achieve my goal. I've made a template file, but I don't know how to import it.
My goal is to, as quickly as possible, give 8 drawings the same annotation settings.
I 'm in the middle of our annual Autodesk software upgrades to the 2010 releases. One of my power users is having a problem with Inventor locking up everytime he selects the Annotation Ribbon Panel with an IDW open. I was able to reproduce this problem on the same workstation under my admin account. I tried to repair the installation and that did not work.
His workstation specs are:
Precision T5400 - Xeon Quad Core - 2.66 Ghz 4 Gb RAM 256 Mb Nvidia Quadro FX 570 (Driver 6.14.11.8246) 3D Connexion SpaceNavigator (Version 3.8.1) Windows XP SP3 (32-bit)
In Tube & Pipe i have popped a valve into my route, it jumped to the pipe and the flanges automatically added which is fantastic. Now i want to move it to another part of the route. Without having to delete the valve and put a new one in, how do i move it? I did try to move the node, but it wouldnt move.
See the picture i have attached (and yes i know the flange size and valve size do not match).
Its the one thing in the Tube&pipe module and i know there has to be a proper way of doing this.
The command for Creating Lines by Specifying a Range of Point Numbers makes 3D line segments. Is there an option to make a zero elevation polyline running through cogo points that are 3D (the 3D line segments occur even if the cogo points are set to flatten elevation)?
When I change the annotation scale for selected text and leaders, most of it shoots into space. I have tried one at a time and many, all with the same result.
The text size looks correct, the leader looks fine, but the text x coordinate changes radically.
Changing from 1:1 to 1:15,000
Does this mean I have to relocate every leader text back to something normal, or am I missing something.
why Autodesk doesn't put Flanged Ball Valves in the content center? There are several other types of valves in there but no flanged valves. This type of valve is very common in the oil and gas industry and it just baffles me that there is nothing there for this type of valve.
I have used Inventor for several years and this has always been an issue.
I am currently making a pattern of numbers. These numbers are going to be serial numbers on some parts that are to be cut by a waterjet. There are 1000 parts so I want to automate this process. I have made a pattern of text so that the text is placed correctly. Also i have used TCOUNT to automate the numbers, so that the pattern of numbers is now 1 2 3 4, etc (positioned correctly). The problem is that the serial numbers should have the format 00000 (5 digits), so: 00001, 00002 etc. Is it any way to make numbers appear this way? If i try write it like this in TCOUNT it automatically changes it to standard numbers.
I have determined that an AutoCAD drawing has the unfortunate ability to have Annotation Scales "hard coded", meaning they CANNOT be removed from the drawing.
Let me explain....
In a detail drawing file (i.e. my master drawing file where I keep all of our standard details), I was getting duplicate Annotation Scales. I would try to use the SCALELISTEDIT command to try and delete the anno scales not being used, but it would appear they WERE being used. (and resetting the anno scales didn't work either)
I was using a combination of tricks to determine WHICH annotation objects were using the duplicate anno scales. I would set ANNOALLVISIBLE to 0 and set the CANNOSCALE to the duplicate anno style to see where they were being used with no luck
I would then use the QSELECT command to group select each type of annotation object that were annotative, and check to see if they were using the duplicate scales. Again, no luck
THEN, I decided to cut-n-paste each detail one-at-a-time from my master drawing file to a new BLANK drawing with only one annotation scale in it (i.e. 1:1). I would paste a detail, and then enter the SCALELISTEDIT command to see which anno scales "came along for the ride". I pasted a particular detail that carried over the duplicate anno scales, but when I checked all of the annotation objects for the duplicate anno scales - NOTHING! I then deleted that particular detail, purged it, and then I was able to delete the duplicate anno scales. But no matter what I did to try and fix that detail (i.e. wblock, cut-n-paste, save-down, etc) the duplicate anno scales simply will NOT be allowed to be deleted even though i cannot find any objects associated with them.
i have been trying for an option called auto numbering of attributes. i have a drawing of floor plan in every room there are 5 to 6 switch boards.I have to give a code and numbers to switchboard like SB1, SB2.......SB42 etc. there are like some 150 switchboards, so i have made an attribute with code and number. problem is when ever i have to add or delete some switch boards some where in the middle. again i have to start renumbering my switch board attribute blocks again from starting. It is very time consuming. is there any command renumbering all attribute blocks in one command.
I am setting up a template and want my page #s to automatically update when i copy a tab. How is this done? I currently have my "Total Sheets" as a field and that works out fine but often need to add/ remove a sheet to/from drawing and would like the page #s to update.
I'm looking for a lisp routine that will draw a line between all matching numbers that are repeated 3 times or more in a selection.I'm using AutoCad 2012.
