I have two compositions, second is a copy of the first. On the second's layers i use other footages with other start points, while the keyframes of the layers should stay there (related to the layer). I have replaced the the second's footages by alt-drag&drop. But i can not set other start points. So how can i shift the footage behind the layer?
I have some very long movies and want to insert some short parts of it in the timeline. So i open the movie in the footage panel mark in and out point and press ovelay insert to insert this part in the timeline.Next time i open the same movie in the footage panel to mark the next part i want to insert in the timeleine, my timeline playhead jumps to the time where my playhead of the footage panel is in this clip. is it possible to unlink the footage panel and the Timeline?
I am performing some compositing tests using 4K footage (3840x2160, Apple ProRes 422 HQ, from BM Prod. Camera 4K) in AE 5.5. However, when I import the footage, the resolution is listed as being 1364x767. Closer inspection reveals that the footage is truly being treated and displayed at that lower resolution; thousands of pixels are essentially being ignored. When the footage is dropped into a 4K composition, it occupies only a small area at the center of the screen.
Mac OS X 10.9 (my operating system) incorrectly reports the footage resolution in the file properties (in Finder, listed as 1364x766), However, upon opening the file with Quicktime, the footage is displayed correctly and the "inspector" window reports the correct resolution dimensions (3840x2160). So the file is ok; all of the 4K data is there and Quicktime can read/interpret it. Why then can AfterEffects not do the same?
Is there a way to have a certain preset of effects activate on any and all footage dragged into the timline? I'm working in a 24FPS 2K timeline with 60FPS 1280p footage. To have it play the way I want I have to drag down the footage, set the scale of the clip from 100% to 150% so it fits the screen. Then set the time playback to 50%. Is there a way to have the time playback and scale change automatically affect every piece of footage dragged into the timeline?
I am using native .mxf - MPEG-2 HD footage shot with a Canon XF300, and nearly every time I place it in the timeline or or viewer and scrub AE freezes and crashes. Non mxf footage doesn't cause AE to crash.I am running a newly built Windows 7 64bit system
Dual Xeon 2687's EVGA Classified SRX motherboard 96 GB RAM 3 SSD (operating system and applications on one, scratch and cache on others) GeForce GTX580 3GB internal 10K raptor drive (footage) External OWC 4TB Qx2 RAID 5 / 0 (switched configurations in an attempt to resolve issue) (footage) - connected eSATA / USB2.0
I have adjusted the preview resolution settings, the preferences, the location of scratch disks, changed the location and connectivity of media hard disk, I have attempted older drivers, and ive switched video cards - I previously was using Quadro4000. I have reinstalled the Adobe Suite, and just yesterday did a complete reinstallation of the OS. And that hasn't seemed to solved the issue.
In the Windows event log, the error reads: Faulting application path: C:Program FilesAdobeAfter Effects CS6Support FilesAfterFX.exe.Faulting module path: C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects CS6Support Filesmc_dec_mp2v.dll
I am new to .mxf and I have only been using this footage format for a few months, however the crashing issue did not occur until about a month ago. Im not using proxies I believe it was around the time when I applied the latest AE update. I cant say with confidence it was the update because I also was switching GPU drivers to resolve Premiere Pro crashing. Essentially AE worked when Premiere Pro didn't, and now visa versa.
It always catches and crashes before going into adaptive resolution. Are the hard drives not able to keep up? Footage runs fine in Premiere Pro Hardware seems to check out.
Once I have imported my footage how do I rearange them in the project bin. I can't seem to grab a clip and move it into the position in list I want ( similar to arranging clips in PP or FCP )
I know how to set a poster frame for a comp (With comp selected, Composition>Set Poster Frame) but how does one set the poster frame for a footage item in the project panel? Obviously that option is grayed out as it is under the composition window. Is there any way to do this? Google has failed me. All my clips start with black video and I just want a way to quickly preview what their actual content is using the poster thumbnail.
I have some older footage shot on tape in SD on a green screen. I'm not sure of the process of how the vendor got it from tape to digital, but they told me it was the highest quality footage they had. When I pull it into Ae, it's got alot of crawly artifacts on his suit and hair, as seen here:
Actually the compression that adobe put on the image you can hardly see them in this image, but believe me they are there. What can you do with that? I've tried curves, to crush the blacks a little, and that works, but is there a better solution?
After Effects CS6: Cache and Reload Footage Problem
I am having trouble getting my footage to update in an AE project.
In an existing project, there is an image sequence in a composition. I have saved and closed AE, modified the footage (same dimensions and qty. of frames, only the pixel data changes), and then re-launched AE and opened the project. Though I have changed the footage, the old content still appears. I have done the following:
Edit>Purge>All Memory Edit>Purge>Image Cache Memory Edit>Preferences>Media & Disk Cache>Empty Disk Cache[code].....
None of these got the footage to update. I could double-click on the footage in the project bin and scrub the play head and the old footage was still displayed. Finally I had to replace the footage with itself and that resolved the issue.
If this is operator error, lack of understanding the cache functions, or something else. I don't recall this behavior in CS 5.5, so I am guessing this is a change in CS 6.

After selecting "interpreting footage" in after effects after importing my video clip (the clip shows 24.999 fps) i change it to 25fps and it starts working. It took me a while to figure out why my clips werent matching with my seperate audio, there was missing clips. My footages i import are 30 minutes and after i interpret my footage, it gets shortened to 22 minutes. I am using Windows 7 and AE 5.5.
I am using a Canon XA10 camcorder, when I upload the footage to my pc the files come in as .mts file format. When I import one of the clips into AE it does not come in at the correct size of 1440 X 1080.
I'm missing some source footage, and it can take a *very* long time to do a find file on the server I'm connected to.
Is there any way to see the original path of missing footage? I figure I could do some dectective work backtracking folders if I knew where After Effects is looking for these files.
1. Setting up a Comp- Having AE decide on the correct footage being used- Via >Import footage,.(to Folder) then drag it on, or into the 'make comp icon' where AE is supposed to do a 'best guess' for the comp settings. Be it square pix or otherwise. What are the second value in brackets ? See pic
2. Interpolation- When using two diff footage sources- If using two different source footages in a comp. Is this where I should interplolate my footage to match the existing footage and the comp settings (If I have choosen NOT to pre-comp that secondary footage?)
3. Seperating fields- How come footage that a camera manufacturer claims to be shooting in Progressive 30 or 24p is showing up as interlaced in my comp's CP? The manual to the cam says 30p or 24p or 60i The footage was shot at 30p (for sure)
Here is a screen grab of AE's 'best guess' of that footage, showing it with an UPPER field render; indicative of HD Interlaced footage and then in the inerpolate settings - 'kinda confirming it.
Now for the way out- Render:
4. If that is in fact Interlaced and I then want to reduce the size of that 1920 footage to 66% size... Do I need to do anything in particular at this point?
For some reason I am getting an error on my end when trying to export as an AVI and reducing size to 1280
5. Is this from the Field render of interlaced challenge?
I ended up with a couple of errors and then aborted the whole file and re-imported to start over with this error. Which happend again after a redoux
So I sent it over to Prem Pro to export those MTS Files as a movie and noted AGAIN the reference to Interlaced video. "upper and lower" Prem Pro was able to use the same MTS files and export a working movie. (so those files were not corrupt BTW) Yet Note PP's output reference to that footage again as Interlaced would be...
I'm trying to understand why adding colour correction, or auto contrast to my some of my clips is causing them to have flicker. It's not a consistent flicker either, but random.
The footage affected is 720p at 29.97fps in a timeline with the same settings. The raw footage appears fine. Once effects are added, the image stutters. I have rendered the preview files and the issue remains the same, likewise when exported.
I have PSE11 and purchased Paint the Moon effects. How can I view both the Layers panel and the Effects panel at the same time? Was this an option in older versions of PSE that are used in the Paint the Moon tutorials?
Is there a way to shift the capture time (in EXIT) of multiple files by a long time frame? When you select photos and go to Metadata - Edit Capture Time, you can shift the capture time in the increments of hours.. I need to shift the capture time of some photos by years.. Is this possible at all within LR?
I use the shift+/ shortcut heavily to reset my view centrally and fit it into the screen. Recently though I've noticed it intermittently stops working. I'm running After Effects 12.2.1.5 on Mac OSX mavericks on a MBP Retina 2013.
I have been shooting RAW for a while and have notice that after I import the images and then start to view them in the Library Module I will see a slight color and quality shift - almost looks like a white balance shift but not quite. I was thinking that perhaps there was some automatic preset being applied but I don't have any presets at all.
I am shooting with a Canon 1DX as well as 7D. I have not checked to see if I get this situation with the 7D, but I know for sure that I get it with the 1DX.
Today I was reviewing some images in Bridge and decided to open one of them in Camera RAW. At that time I discovered that the camera's Image Style Settings were available, Faithful, Standard, Portrait, etc. I noticed that the images did not have one of the camera styles applied to them but rather the Adobe Standard Style. At that point from within RAW I selected one of the camera's styles and bingo thats the kind of shift I am seeing when I first view an image in LR4 Library.
So as far as I can tell the RAW images are getting the Adobe Standard style applied in LR. I have no idea if this is a default behavior of if I have done something to cause it. I'm also thinking that perhaps LR does not necessarily apply the Camera's Styles automatically even though the particular style has been set in the camera -- perhaps is not imported as part of the metadata during the import and thus defaults to the Adobe Standard.
1. Should I expect LR4 to apply the Style as set from the camera automatically or not at all? 2. Can I prevent LR from applying the Adobe Standard Style and apply no style? 3. Can I cause LR to apply the Style as set in the camera for the particular image to be appied automatically upon import?
While working with my Easy Ease, the SHIFT+F9 just no longer works or hasn't since installation. SHIFT+CTRL+F9, or F9 work as intended.(I checked the pref text file for my keyboard short cuts and SHIFT+F9 is assigned correctly)
Now when I create a preset then wish to view or browse my presets I click Animation > Browse Preset, and nothing happens.(Made a shortcut to my preset folder)
I notice that if I use the CS6 feature of holding down the shift key while pickwhipping a new parent (to get the child to move to the parent), it deletes any keyframes I have set (position, scale, rotation). Is this normal behavior?
I am trying to create tilt shift effects. issue in selecting focus and blur areas. I do the following - Go to Quick Mask(Press 'Q') --> Select Gradient (Press 'G') --> Then I draw a vertical line to define the focus area. Usually a relatively darker red color used to appear as a band. But suddenly I see a very vague red color. And when I exit Quick Mask (Press 'Q') again the marching ants selects the entire picture and not the focus and blur areas.
I'm working on a time-lapse project where I have taken 240 shots of a highway heading into my city, and have erased the cars from the shot, creating the look of an "empty city". This will be one of many sequences like this.
I got the highway background plate perfect, no cars, and I threw that into my AE comp (CS6), along with the 240 images as a JPEG sequence. I've layered the background plate on top of the image sequence and used a mask to "hide" the cars from the highway. The problem is, some of the cars are taller than the roadway (trucks, busses, etc), so they push into the upper part of the frame where the motion is supposed to happen. If I extend the mask upward, you can see a literal bisection between the still plate and the animated JPEGs. If I just move the mask path to hide cars as they go by, the moving mask becomes VERY obvious in the exported QuickTime.
I am looking for a way to render a 3d model that reacts to an audio in real time. I know processing does the audio reacting in real time but I was wondering if this is possible to render a 3d object that react to the audio via after effect as well?
Created a project for a client, saved it, and rendered out a preview. Today I open the same project which has not been touched since the render and it's a completely different image result.Left is in the project as of today. Right is same frame from render yesterday. As I said, no project changes have occurred since render.
I've messed around with the blending modes and opacity settings which are still as I left them originally, keyframes and all, yet I cannot get back to the exact same image on the right. Having funky oddities in AE CC?
I have a 1-minute clip that I've been working on. The first 30s I want to playback at normal speed. Between 30 and 36s I want the playback speed to gradually increase to about double the normal playback speed. At 36s I want it to stay at double speed for a few seconds and then gradually return to realtime playback. I don't want it to suddenly go from normal speed to double speed. From what I've read this is possible with the TimeWarp effect or enabling time re-mapping. Since I don't know how to do either I decided to look up some tuts on TimeWarp. I didn't find much and when I add the TimeWarp effect to my footage layer, all the color correction I did on it disappears.
I guess I'm wondering two things:
-How do I accomplish the speeding up and slowing down that I described above? -If I'm supposed to use Timewarp, why does it create issues with my color and how do I fix it?
I have this video clip and you can see that at second 3 the frame moves to the left and it's too little time for people to read the whole sentece (take ownership of your career).I think it has something to do with camera1.
