3ds Max :: Why Need A Specular Component From Lighting

Oct 16, 2013

with self illuminating materials, visible area lights, why would we still need a specular component in lighting?

case in point: create a visible area light on a glossy sphere and your reflection will not be sharp, rather it would be fuzzy.  thus changing to a self illuminated plane and turning off specular in the area light.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Browser Component Names Do Not Change After Replacing Component

Jan 26, 2012

We are having an issue when we replace a component in Inventor Pro 2012.  When we replace a component, the name in the browser does not update to the new component.  We've even tried to close and re-open the Inventor assembly and that does not work.  We end up manual double clicking the name in the browser and type in the new component name.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Detecting If Component Occurrence Is Virtual Component

Jul 25, 2012

II need a way to tell if a component occurence is a virtual component.

I'm using a For Each loop to cycle through all of the components in an assembly, and if the component is itself an assembly to set the LOD to "Custom". I'm using the definition document descriptor object for this. It all woks fine until the loop comes across a virtual component which doesn't have a definition document, so I need a way to check if the component is virtual and needs to be skipped.Here's the

Option ExplicitImports Inventor.LevelOfDetailEnumSub MainiLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueDim doc As AssemblyDocumentDim oLOD As LevelOfDetailRepresentationDim oAsmCompDef As ComponentDefinitionDim oComp As ComponentOccurrenceDim oComps As ComponentOccurrencesdoc = ThisDoc.DocumentIf.

Photoshop :: Creating Bevel With Custom Specular (sphere Map) Art Text 2 Cool Feature?

Oct 12, 2011

I've been a faithful photoshop user for quite some time now, but today I got wickedly impressed by this tiny software that features this awesome specular highlighting technique that photoshop does not do by default.This software is called "Art Text 2"H! I had prepared some image links but cause I'm so new I can't put them.[URL]...

As you can see, the bevel reflection is created using the specular information of the "sphere map". Furthermore the program allows you to change the sphere map highlights interactively, and even choose your own image sphere maps. This is just amazing, isn't it? Creating realistic metal text or things is just super easy with this. I think everyone of us has had problems doing realistic metal effects on photoshop, am I wrong?

In Photoshop you have the "bevel and emboss" style feature, and it works pretty well, but it isn't made for say: reflecting a window on the beveled text.Sphere maps are commonly used in gaming to simulate realistic reflection of 3d objects, and I can think of a million ways of using this technique on 2d. way of simulating this sphere map reflection on layers on Photoshop?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Skip Saving A Suppressed Component / Delete Suppressed Component

Aug 30, 2012

I have an assembly which has a few components suppressed.

My end results is another copy of the assembly (with copies of the all the parts) in another directory

Now i am able to create copies of un-suppressed parts using; (this allows me to SaveAs assembly components which are not suppressed)

DocumentsEnumerator = ThisDoc.Document.AllReferencedDocuments

And save a copy of the assembly using

ThisDoc.Document.SaveAs

I also added the fllowing snippet (which I am not sure what is does), but it does not work for me

Component.SkipDocumentSave = true

 When I open the newly created assembly, I still see the suppressed components in the model browser

I want to either;

Skip saving the of the components in the model browser (i.e. the Assembly)

OR

Delete the suppressed parts in the Assembly, so that they do not save altogether

3ds Max :: How To Use Volume Lighting

Jun 25, 2012

I am trying to figure out how to use volume lighting. I am using a free spot and have added volume lighting but every time I render, I just get a dark shadow coming from the light. The surface it is aimed at lights up, but what would be the 'fog' area just projects as a shadow with hard edges in the shape of a beam of light. I've spent hours trying different settings and can't figure it out.

Photoshop :: No Lighting Effects In SDK

Jul 17, 2013

We have no lighting effects in the SDK so we've been looking at work around for how to introduce them.Our game takes places on various planets in the solar system. It will be viewed from the top down so the player will be able to see terrain and structures.

The game is going to be compiled mostly using 2D map art and 3D animated models imported as sprite sheets.Because there are no lighting effects we are adding them to the models using the modelling software. All of game maps are being built with a white light. We are instead looking to add a block image canvas with the colour set to that which matches the planet it is set. With the opacity reduced to 25-35% it then gives the map and models the correct light ambience. Before our developer started testing this out in the SDK I used photoshop to come up with the solution. I found that we got the best results when setting the canvas block colour layer to 'soft light'. The only problem is when I export the canvas on its own and send it to our developer it seems to lose the soft light effect.

My question is, is there a way to export the soft light effect? Simply using normal mode and changing the opacity doesn't make the light ambiance look as natural.If you scroll down on the link below you will see two images of the same location. One with the soft light and effect and one with out. URL....

The corner hutch on the right is the 3D piece and the two on the left are 2D. The walls, ceiling and floor are also all 3D as well.

Photoshop :: Lighting Effect

Oct 8, 2008

I am currently attempting to apply an image, and then filter -> lighting effects -> any light effect. When I apply the affect, at the bottom of my applied image, it appears as though there is a spot that was NOT hit with the "apply light effect." (So, basically, that spot looks normal while everything else is shadowed above it.)

I am running Photoshop CS2, the image is in RGB,

I've experimented by taking a layer and filter -> lighting effect to see if it had the same outcome, but it did not. It appears this is only a problem when applying the image.
