I am building an RC airplane this winter, but and building it first in MAX. I have plans for a retractable tail wheel, and I want to make it retract into the tail of the plane to make sure it fits.
I drew it up in MAX but can't for the life of me figure out how to link parts together so when I rotate one part, other parts respond correctly. I am attaching the MAX file of the landing gear and a couple other images to clarify what I'm saying. (hopefully)
I thought bones might do it, but have never used them before and couldn't figure them out. I'm very frustrated. What is the best way to do this.
how the file structure works and how to link parts (ipt) and assemblies (iam) to each other. I converted a large file from Mechanical desktop to inventor which was a two day process. All parts and assemblies for the main assembly were dumped into one directory. I would like to move all the part files to one location and the assembly files (sub assemblies) to another location and then tell inventor to go there and pick the items from those two locations. I have set up the project telling inventor where to go and look. I moved all the items out of the original directory and now when I open the main model assembly I have to resolve the link to each part individually. This will take forever, is there a way to have inventor go and look for the parts and assemblies without me having to resolve each one?
I have two parts, one uses some parameters from another one by link.
Now I have copied both and need to update ties between copies since a copy still has a link to original part.
Seems like there is no possible to just change or edit a link from one part to another in Parameters window.
Instead to update a new link I should clean all borrowed parameters in all sketches, delete the folder, make new link and set all parameters back. is it possible to change or edit the link in some easy way?
Let's say I have two independent drawings one with a single part and 1 with an assembly + parts list containing the single part.
So I would like to have an item note on the drawing sheet with the single part referring to the assy drawing, part number & Quantity for this item in the parts list.
I am having some trouble with this quick VBA app, I want a utility that can traverse all the parts in a top level assembly and suppress the link to each derived part (multiple) in all the parts in the assembly.
I have played with the following
Public Sub SuppressLink() Dim partdoc As PartDocument Set partdoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument partdoc.ComponentDefinition.ReferenceComponents.DerivedPartComponents.Item(1).SuppressLinkToFile = True End Sub
Which works, but only on one part file, and only on the first derived part. Is there any easy way to make this work on ALL the dervived links and every single part inside an assembly?
I'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.
I am trying to replace a custom part - created from a content center part - with a copied part with a different name. (I am using the replace tool in an assembly.) However, Inventor is not replacing the part with the part I pick but rather the content center version of it.
On the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List. Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list. On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.
On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3. Two of those Three are optional parts. What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.
I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing. Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone. I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description. I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).
Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible. Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.
I am working on an assembly that is designed around a box (bounding box) that could change size. I modeled the bounding box and placed it in a new assembly file. All other parts have been created within the assembly by referencing that bounding box with starting work plane and project geometry.
The problem comes in when I change the bounding box dimensions. The work planes for each additional part, which were defined by the faces of the bounding box, do not move when the sides move. Also, my projected geometry is not updating correctly. This is a simple box, with all 90° corners. So, all associated parts (at this point) are just rectangles.
My parts list on my idw do not update when I make changes to the model. Specifically, I have deleted a bolted connection on my design and replaced with a different components but the parts list table does not update - all I see is a lightning bolt in the browser next to the parts list but I cannot update it here.

I was using virtual parts to add nuts and bolts to a drawing in 2013
I can make a VP bolt in the assembly, no problem, set it's size, weight, etc.
In the VP itself, there is no option for number of bolts I want it to emulate. For arguement's sake the weight was 1 pound per bolt (they are big bolts).
I can go into the BOM and say quantity 60, hit done and save the assembly.
If i open the drawing, the parts lists shows 60lbs for the 60 bolts total - which it should when summing the weight.
The problem is the BOM/assembly. If the weight of my assembly (without bolts) is 10,000lbs, the assembly sees the VP weighing 1lb and says the total weight is 10,001 lbs. Am i going to have to pattern a fake part to get this to work right? Shouldn't the total weight take into account the quantity set in the Bom??
Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing? I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.
For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."
I have an assembly with a lot of purchased parts. I need to create a buy out list for purchasing. I've done this many times in the past and have a template set up for this purpose.
So now the problem, In this assembly, I have subassemblies showing up on my parts only parts list.
One of the subassemblies cinsists of two purchased parts. Both parts are set to purchased in the Bill of materials. If I do a parts only list on this assembly, it works as expected, showing two purchased parts. However, if I put that assembly into a higher level assembly, A parts only parts list shows the assembly instead of the individual parts.
I have a .idw that I'm trying to make a parts list on. I select parts list and highlight everything. There are two screws that are not showing up on the parts list. I cannot select them manually either. It's acting like they are not there. Even if I do a complete parts list (adding the assemblies parts into one big list), they still don't show up.
How can I select these parts? What is wrong with them that they do not show up in the parts list?
I have been working with an assembly today where it is ideal to mirror parts and have figured out how to reuse the parts rather than create new parts. Now I find that when the parts are mirrored, they ate not retaining the mates. Where do I find the setting so they either retain their mates, or prefferably retain the mirror so that if I move the origional, the mirror moves as well?
My computer crashed and I am re-installing all software. My order history does not show up in Adobe.com, but my serial number shows up under "My Products." How can I get a link to re-download Photoshop CS6?
I bought Photoshop CS5.1 for my iMac. I now need it on my Macbook too as I am traveling for work. I'm pretty sure I can use my existing licence on 2 devices, seeing as I will only use one at a time. My serial key is for cs5.1 but the only Photoshop download link I can find is for CS6. Will my serial key work in cs6? I actually only want cs5.1 but I cannot find a link to download it.
I have a client with AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 with an OLE DB Provider for SQL Server Data Source and a dbConnect link template connecting to the database.
Normally, when an object that is linked to the database via the link template is selected, the data from the linked table appears in the properties palette. Recently a change what made to the table (view) that the link template and the Link template no longer appears. The view was restored to its original state, but the link table still is not visible.
If the data source is disconnected via the task pane, the link template reappears (with only the key showing, of course). The data can still be seen via the link template "View Linked Table" context-sensitive menu in the task pane so the link still remains.
I have disconnected, deleted, and rebuilt the data source, but it has not worked and I cannot delete the link template as there are several thousand objects linked via the template.
After I installed the latest version of ACR (4.4), I found that I could not access ACR directly from Bridge any more. The "Open in Camera Raw" was "grayed out". I removed V4.4 and reinstalled 4.3.1. Still could not access ACR directly. ACR opened in CS3 fine.
Some other strange thing happened in Bridge after installing V4.4, but they were corrected after I re-ran the start up disk and had it "re-install CS3".
I have a user who has AutoCAD LT 2013 SP2 installed. When he tries to insert a link (Insert > Data > Link) the application bugs/stops responding. He then has to stop the application via the Task Manager.
I'm using max 2013 and After Effects CS5.5 and would like to get my camera from max into AE. What secret thing do I have to do for this to work? All I get is the Footage and some Nulls, but no camera at all even when it's selected (by default).
Do I have to bake the cam first or make it compatible for export in some way or should it work right away with any camera (I'm using the standard max cam)?
For some reason on certain cad files when linked into revit. when I hit the align button. the linked filed doesnt properly select the lines, it selects an area near the line, which causes it to not properly line up to the revit line work
Why isn’t my DWG link from one RVT visible when I link it into another? I.E. I link my site dwg into my Arch central and want the Site to be visible when I link the Arch into other files. I want the Arch to hold the Site link but be able to see the site when the arch in linked into other models. I could have sworn I have done this in the past but can’t get it to work now for some reason.
I know how to use Link Constraint but I've yet to find anything on linking an object to the biped mid animation. I have a world link and the link constraint applied to the weapon but I can't get the arm to move to continue the animation. It's like the arm is stuck. I know it probably pertains to the World Link but don't know how I should handle this.
I inserted a CAD link "this view only" and I cannot now get it to turn on in any other view. I used this option so I would not have to hide it in every view. Now do I have to delete it and start over inserting it so it shows up everywhere?
I have a structural model linked into my architectural and I cannot seem to cut the link in sections. All I can see is the 'elevation' of the link whilst my architectural cuts. I have the link set as by host view and the view extents correct.
