I understand how to create a localized (to a layer) copy of a named color but how do I move its associated tint or shade or linked relationships to the new layer?
Let's say I have 5 circles on Layer 1. Circles 2-5 are all Tints of the color of Circle 1. Now, I copy all five circles to Layer 2. I select Circle 1 (Layer 2) and make it a Named Color Local to the layer (Layer 2.) That option is in the Color Editor. I see how I can change Circle 1 on Layer 2 without changing Circle 1 on the original layer, but the other circles on Layer 2 have lost their Tint relationship to Circle 1 (Layer 2) and do not change in the manner that they continue to change on Layer 1 if I alter Circle 1 on Layer 1.
Is it possible for the Tint, Shade, Link relationships to survive the Make Named Color local to Frame/Layer option? (Page197 in Pro6 manual,)
I'm trying to work with linked colors. I understand and can successfully manipulate both "Tint of another color' and "Shade of another color." I'm having a difficult time getting "Linked to another color to work as expected. The help document doesn't seem to offer much.
+ I create a named color called "S0" ('s'-zero). It appears on the left of the color pallet as a square.
+ I create a 2nd named color called "s1", and instruct that it's to be "Linked to another color". The color that I select as the Parent is "S0".
+ I see no way to control what linking attributes are to be assigned, aside from simply checking on/off the H, S and V option boxes.
I have created several tutorials receintly that allude to the power of named and linked colors. In this video tutorial I show you how to create your very own named and linked colors in Xara products. Not only that, but how to add these colors to your default template so that the new named and linked colors will appear in any new projects that you create with that template.
Possible to link an xref layer and local layer so they display the same (eg. sync viewport colour, linewieght, line type)?
I insert xref's for my base drawing but legend is on local layers and I would like to be able to ensure that the line colour and linetype always match...
I am switchin over from photoshop and would like to do the following
1) Select a color: I have a logo with a green and red text and would like to select only the green text. The logo is a flat file so I do not have access to the text-layers. (In Photoshop I would now use the "select color range" tool)
2) Keep the selection of the color active (as a selection)
3) Create a new overlay-layer and fill the selection with a blue color.
On start-up of Designer7 I now get the error message "Unable to store information on your local hard disk. The disk may be full, or read-only. Ok" as pretty well the last thing in the start-up process. On pressing Ok, the dialog clears and the program will run normally. Opening and saving files works just fine.
My discs (where the program is stored, where my user profile is stored, where the drawings are saved and when the temp files and Windows swap file arel orated ) have ample space and are not RO. I also ran a disc check and they're not corrupted or damaged.
No malware seems to be present (checked with a couple of different programs) but the only thing that's different is that we had a power cut while Xara was running. Since then, it keeps giving me this message.
I've just updated to the latest version and accepted the default settings and it still gives me the message.
I have a photo frame and subject in particular color. In essence, this is a color and texture swatch. What I would like to do, is to change the color (or tint this photo) and retain the pattern/ grain of the product.
I have tried a few things, but so far, nothing is convincing. In the end, I want to change this Tan sample to Blue, Red, Black and White.
My (previously wonderful) local adjustment brush has apparently quit working. Whenever I attempt to make local adjustments - using either the standard presets or custom settings - all the adjustments made are applied to the entire image, not just locally. Density and flow are set to my typical values and Show Selected Mask Overlay shows the extent of the applied effect, but whatever adjustment I make is applied generally, over the entire photo, rather than to the selected adjustment area.
I've been struggling the whole day to change the color of the black crack in the attached picture to red (to match my other samples) whilst fading the crack edging (paint overrun). The best I could get was to manually dodge tool the cracks to lessen the excess paint outside of the cracks but then the dodging lessens the contrast of the crack crevice too. How to (1) locally contrast the cracks from the paint around its edges and (2) change the color of the crack from black.
I've tried playing with overlays whilst adjusting the color modes for the cracks, but I've not met with much success and I'm not sure if its my lack of knowledge of these features or if its just the wrong approach altogether. PS. I'm using CS2 (its what the office has...)
I tried to get into the IRC to ask this question but I kept getting a 404 message. My question is....is "filling with transparent" the same as "tinting"? (explanation: In the image editor that Photobucket used to have I could change the color of something in a picture without losing the original shading, etc. They no longer have that image editor so I am looking for an Open Source program that is easy to use and has that feature.)
1) Take a color image and apply a color-shift local adjustment to a portion of the image.
2) Convert the image to B&W.
Result -- The main image is converted to B&W, but the local adjustment doesn't change, i.e. it's still colored. Here's a trivial (and not-realistic) example of what happens:
My goal is to adjust the colors and the apply the B&W conversion to the entire processed image, not just the original piece. Is there a way to do this? I feel like I'm missing something small and easy.
I often work on drawings which have multiple xrefs, each having up to 100 Layers or more, so the layer manager can be a bit difficult to trawl through to find a local layer to select.
I know how to create a local layer filter using the code ~*|* from the new filter area in layer manager.
Ideally all I want to have to type in is: LOCAL and then the local layer filter would be created, with the filter name being Local-Layers (or similar).
I recently saw a presentation that spoke of tinting shadows on an image by converting to black and white, then creating a gradient map layer. From there you went into the Gradient Editor and place the cursor directly beneath the gray scale, and starting from the black end, move it toward the white end until the arrow cursor changes to a finger pointer. You then use the value in Location...
Unfortunately, every time I do this my cursor is ALWAYS a pointing finger. I can put in color stops, but I don't believe that was what the technique used... I've tried using alt, ctrl, and/or shift in all the combinations I can think of, but no matter what I do, I always get the pointing finger instead of the arrow cursor.
what I need to do differently to get the Gradient Editor to show an arrow cursor until I reach whatever point I should be at when it changes to a pointing finger? Does it represent the darkest black in the image, or what?
At some point I appear to have messed up some setting I don't know about.. Whenever I paste into PS, it looks like its behind some sort of sepia tinted screen, and my bushes have the same color on their edges..
Every time I launch Xara, I want the page and layer gallery to be at "layer level" mode, however it is only showing it at "page level" mode. Is there a way to make it default to layer level? It can get pretty redundant to have to click on that page to open it every time.
What I want to do is to have an adjustment layer that is a reversed, black and white image. I initially thought to merge B&W and reverse adjustment layers, but read that an adjustment layer may not be the target of a merge. Is the way to accomplish this to fiddle with the B&W adjustment layer sliders somehow?
I like how the black and white displayed image of a given color channel looks, how can I export that channel into a layer?
I have a bunch of objects on a particular layer, and they're all different colors and linetypes and lineweights, and i want them to all take on the color / linetype / lineweight that i chose for that layer.. how do i do this?
Any script that when ran will set lineweights of a layer based on what color the layer is assigned. For instance if I have 3 lines that are green on 3 different layers. I need the script to change all 3 layers lineweight to .015mm. I have drawings that are inconsistant with layer names so layer translator and methods of that nature will not work because I do not know all the layer names and I have 100 drawings to do this to.
I've just started trying to make a GIF animation with Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2013. The program allows you set a frame as a "layer". The Xara help manual says that the layer frame will go over the previous frame in the animation. However, I haven't been able to get this to work. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. But what? (or elaborate) on the use of layer frames in a Xara GIF animation?
I went to lock a Layer (the whole layer) and could not - I had to Lock the item IN the Layer (one item: and the Layer still did show as Locked).I have a screen shot; but, it's been a bit & I don't see how-to attach it.Plus, shouldn't I have been able to Lock the Layer & the item in it? Is this a Bug?
We have an alignment curve table and the data text, first data entry (curve number) is appearing as color by layer (magenta), when all colors are set as explicit colors by element in table style under Display tab. How do I control the color of the first entry to be color by element instead of by layer?
Somehow I've turned off the color selection so that I don't have a color when I select a part of a drawing on a layer. The drawing area stays black whether I have selected it or not and I don't know how to turn back on the color.
how I can turn on the color again so that when I select a line it changes from black to red or magenta or whatever?
Is it possible to put a speech bubble on a layer for use as a popup? In this case it would be a layer on a layer. I can draw a graph and I can import a jpg, but can't get the speech bubble on a layer.
I'm used from XDP6 to having the P&L Gallery stay the size I set it to - whereas in XDP7, when I press 'Pages' to reduce the listing into page names only - the panel suddenly shrinks to the left, given that the names only occupy a small space. This bugs me, esp at it shunt the page I'm working on to the left by the same amount as well.
I want to color a photo of a brown leather shoe by switching on a color layer under it. I need this because a website script works with 2 separate images/layers. The top layer must be a transparent png of the image (the brown shoe) and the layer under this is a solid color (or more colors). This way you can color a shoe by clicking a button on the webpage.
I tried it using a white shoe on a layer, setting the opacity to 80%, than I used 'Select Color Range' to select the leather of the shoe, than I deleted this selection. This way the shoe keeps the leather look but is kind of transparent. A colored layer under it 'paints' the shoe while you still see the leather texture on it.
i'm making a new color fill layer and want to fill it with the same color like an other (already existing) color fill... how can i simply pick the color from that existing layer? or how can i set the foreground color to the collor of an existing color fill?
I'm new at Xara Xtreme and I just bought a vector image from iStock. It says that the image can easily be edited. Here is the image [URL]....
I want to split things up and move each individual globe and put arrange them to my specifications. I can't figure out how to move or edit the individual objects, it's all one layer. Can this be done? For example can the globe with the numbers around it be moved to the left of the screen and the other four globes be removed? I know this can be done with technical skills, but can this be done by a beginer?
Been a while since I've been here. Life interfered
I've just upgraded to Xara P&G Version 6 from Xara Xtreme 4. ( I know, I know what took me so long right? ) Well, Xtreme was doing everything that I required and as such never felt like upgrading but have finally done so. Still getting the hang of the new functions and facilities.
One thing that is bothering me is the new Layers task. In the older version, any imports or changes I made were always done on the active layer. In the new version something strange seems to be happening. Every time I import a new object, Xara automatically adds a new dedicated layer for the object. This means that I am ending up with tons of layers
Am I doing something wrong? Or can I change any setting so that Xara does not automatically add a new layer. I much prefer the facility of the old version where it was up to the user to add new layers as required.
I am wondering if Xara supports layers in the same way as my other graphics programs. I am able to bring a bitmap into a layer over another bitmap layer and by applying a particular mode, lets say Overlay or Soft Light, it will change the appearance of the new layer. By doing this I build up new designs for digital papers.
