Xara :: Colour Select / Erase Tool Stability?
Sep 5, 2013find that this tool is less than stable for their use? When it works, I'm quite happy. It's just that it seems to work <20% of the time for me.

View 6 RepliesJust downloaded/purchased DesignerPro X and do not understand how to use this tool. I followed the instructions in the help file (as well as an old man can!) and cannot get it to work. For instance, I cannot get the color tolerance/fade controls to move off of 20/25% respectively. If you specify which photo you are using in the Design gallery, I will follow along.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to change the hue of the sky in a photo. Following the instructions in the Help file, I first used the Color Select/Erase Tool to click on the sky in several areas to erase it. The instructions then say "Now select the Make Mask button on the Infobar." My problem is that I don't see a Make Mask button. I see a Make soft mask button and an Edit Input Mask button. Since the instructions go on to talk about these other two buttons, it seems clear that they are not the Make Mask button. So where is that button?
I might add that I am also looking for a way to make just one part of a graphic transparent. Would this Color Select/Erase Tool be appropriate for doing that?
I have been trying to use the color select/erase feature in Xara P&GD9 (version 9.1.1.28178) on my Windows 7 64-bit computer. I can use this feature to change the appearance of the sky in a photo -- for example, to change it from something drab to an attractive blue. I've now tried to do this in several versions of two photos, and I've been completely unsuccessful. Following the instructions, I first used the color select/erase tool and clicked on the sky in several places to erase it. I then clicked on the Make Soft Mask button and saw that everything but the sky was now pink. I then went to Enhance in the Photo Tool and selected the Hue control. But no matter where or how much I changed the Hue and/or the strength, nothing happened. I was left with the same drab sky I started with. I've tried to show what I've done with four thumbnails.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm messing around with shapes and bevels and I have this shape (attached .xar file) that is basically two lines - I need one of them erased! I don't really care if it's the top line or the bottom one. No this isn't actually two lines, or that would be easy (well it would be draw a rectangle over it and clip it several times, right? But no, this is a shape, so when I draw a rectangle, and try to slide it, it does two things - 1) it does slice the shape, but leaves behind lines or 2) completely removes the original shape and leaves only the (now weird shaped) rectangle. So how do I get the "extra" line to "erase?
I would like to be able to select a colour like you can in photoshop. The swatches are very limited. I would like to select it from the colour 'wheel', where you can move up and down the slider to select the value and then move over the circle to select your colour? Or where can I find a huge swatch of colours?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have made a selection on my photo and erased the background making it transparent. Now when I fill the background with white, I see portions of my original background showing through. How can I easily reselect the background and erase properly? When I use with the Quick Selection or Magic Wand tool, it doens't select all of the transparent background. I seem to remember a tip where I used another feature of CS5 that darkened the transparent background so much that it was eay to erase the missed background.
View 2 Replies View RelatedClarify the use of Magic Erase - I am using Photo & Graphic Designer 2013.When I try to replace an area with another of the same photo it does not work properly with PNG but seems to work almost 90% good with BMP.It looks like the colour is not correct with PNG even thou the Feather = None.
Does this means that Magic Erase should be done with another format than PNG? If there is possible that Magic Erase will not copy the source area colour 100% on any format even if the Feather = None?
I am using CS6 and the Replace Colour Tool no longer allows me to replace multiple colours when I select the + . So when I have the panel open and I highlight the +, I used to then be able to click on several spots in my image and all of the colours that are in those spots are added to the selected colours that will be changed by using the sliders.
But now, when I use the + it has exactly the same effect as not using it - I can only choose one colour or an other, I can't add.....I want to reset this to the original way that this works.
Currently I have to open the panel, change one variation of a colour, save it, then re-open the panel and do it again (and again and again) until all the colour variations I am trying to remove are are changed. I know I also have the 'fuzziness' slider, but it does not give enough control.
I use EdHarvey's colour tint tool and it changes colour of the whole image, I'm looking for something similar but it only changes selected colour, so that the image is left with mutiple colour scheme rather than just one, any addon that can do this?
From this example, you can see the figure on the right is in a brownish colour scheme, what tool can I use in order to make it's colour scheme blue like the figure on the left?
[gradient tool] I double-clicked the colour stop , but the colour swatch doesn't come outI hv tried a couple of times in CS 5 and also CS 6.

When I use PS, sometimes the circle which indicates the size of the draw tool or the earse tool is freezing on my screens. Even if I close PS, it is still there or even when I lock my computer is still there.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.
This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.
I remember being able to select anything on the canvas with my Quick Select tool in CS5.5 Photoshop Extended. Recently, making the switch to CC, the Quick Select tool will show my slection as I drag along the canvas, but once I release the mouse, the selection seems to be reduced to the visible pixels. I was intentionally trying to fill the transparent sections with my effects as well.
Mind you, the magic wand will select transparent pixels just fine, but it also adds unintentional sections which is irritating. I should probably also pint out that I already looked into the "lock transparence" option in the layers, but I did not activate anything of the sort.

Also when I used the spot healer I am left with a smudge after I try to erase unwanted parts of an image.

I've just been working with some building signage and business cards inside of Designer Pro 7 and seem to be having a really hard time with the CMYK Color selections. Regardless of what color i pick either in CMYK or a PMS EC it shows incorrectly in Xara.
Every Colors seems to contradict my PMS color wheel and the CMYK isn't even close.
Exporting the file into PS or Illustrator and the color is correct so there must be some way to adjust Xara to show to correct colors on screen otherwise selecting PMS or CMYK colors when working with Xara s pointless as you don't really know what color you have.
How to fill an area with a colour in Xara 6, when that space is surrounded by different 'objects'?
So say I drew 3 separate lines to form a triangle. How can I fill that triangle with a colour? If I select the Fill Tool and choose a colour, then click in the centre of the triangle nothing happens.
If I were to do the same thing in Illustrator then it would simply create a new shape that fitted the space.
Perhaps this is not possible? Such a simple thing though, I feel I must be missing something. Is it perhaps available on Xara 7?
is a way to change the colour of the preset brushes?
