Revit :: Driveways / Retaining Walls On Steep Slope
Mar 31, 2013
A lot of my work is on steep slopes, and I need to incorporate sloping driveways, parking areas, site retaining walls (boulder walls as well as inter-locking block walls), benches between the top of one wall and the bottom of the next, re-grading, and landscape plans into the design model.
It seems Revit lacks any real site tools to accomplish these tasks, and there are some work-arounds. I've been playing w/ floors for a sloping driveway, but it's tedious and the results are mediocre at best. Haven't yet played with ramps for driveways. I haven't yet figured out a good way to deal with site retaining walls, where the bottom is sloped to match the driveway, and the top is at a different slope to match the existing/re-graded terrain above.
Any work-arounds to address issues with modeling driveways & retaining walls on a steep site?

I need to do a cut/fill analysis not residential site and this site has like 6 retaining walls there is a 6 foot difference in grade.
My surface is not recognizing the grade change when I make the polyline into a wall breakline.

I cannot figure out how to create a solid surface on top of the retaining walls and also how to grade the transitions for the high to low points of the retaining wall. This would be so much easier for me in Solid Works

I am having a lot of trouble adding retaining walls to my surface. I also have to add the curbs of parking lot.
I already have the surface. However I need to tell Civil3D to stop the contours at the retaing walls and not to try to tie them in to anything else. The closest I got was using wall breaklines and I got the top of the retaining wall to have the desired elevation. However, all the contours going to the retainig wall try to go around it and tie in to something else. This ends up creating weird contours and crazy slopes.
Now for curbs, how do I tell Civil3D to jump 6" when it reaches the curb line?

I want to turn my in-place mass walls (sloped or helical) to structural walls but i don't know how to do it. I'm able to do the walls but when i switch it to the analytical view the wall doesn't appear because it's not structural. It's there a way to do in-place mass structural walls.

We are having a problem at our office. We are using REVIT 2014 and In our central model we link in our consultants models and hide what we dont want to see per sheet by using veiw templates. It is all fine and dandy until we have to load a newer model from them in. We delete the old model name the new one the same name once we do this everything we wanted hidden comes back on on our sheets and we have to rinse and repeat.

I originally created a slab with the full version of Autodesk Revit 2013 with POINTS to create a slope to the slab. There does not seem to be a way to edit those points with Autodesk Revit LT. There appears to be an alternate method in the LT version to create slopes utilizing slope arrows. So is SLOPE EDITING no longer a feature with LT?

I'm working on a blueprint and trying to get my roof to do something besides a straight slope, but it isn't going well. I need the roof to curve from the corners inward to the point, like the top of a Japanese pagoda.

I am trying to make a unique roof but I have had many failed attempts for hours now. Attached is a photo of the roof overhang I am trying to mimic and a crappy sketch showing the same thing. The roof has a normal gable on one end, but on the other. I need the over hand to go out three feet, then into a point at six feet at the same slope as the entire roof. NOT a hip roof which seems to be the only they I can make it. I even tried making a separate roof piece and it still didnt work.

I'm using the floor to build the parking ramp. The ramp slopes down from west to east. I used the slope arrow to achieve it.
But I just found out today that that parking ramp also slopes down from north to south at the same time because of the sloped site.
So, how can do a 2 way slope at the same time? I tried to add the 2nd sloped arrow but that option is greyed out.

I'm at my wits end trying to cut a wall with a void. I want to chamfer the corners of a wall, but I can't get even a basic void to cut from a wall. I get the error : "This Mass has no solid geometry for its Void Forms to cut. They must be deleted, or solid geometry added and cut." They clearly intersect, what am I doing wrong?

how to create a floor or structural slab that is both sloped AND has a variable thickness?
I can do either, but not both. Thinking that I may need to create a generic mass.

I am currently doing an MEP project and I am tidying up the model at present. I am having problems attaching the walls to the roofs. There could be a simple solution but I haven't found it yet !
I have tried attaching top base etc. but its not working. I only seem to be able to select one side of the roof when selecting where to attach the walls. I have attached 3d pics showing the walls that are extruding & also one of the walls that I am trying to attach.

I drew some internal walls before adding a floor slab. After adding the floor slab the walls disappeared in plan. I can see them in 3D, in the correct place, but not in plan.
The floor slab is in the right position. To fix the problem I redrew them all, but why did they disappear and how do I prevent it from happening again?

why my existing walls show up fine in my sheet but don't plot to .pdf. I have the view range settings set correctly and all other sheets plot fine.
I thought maybe the roof transparency was the issue but Revit is usually pretty much a WYSIWYG plotting operation and the walls are displaying in the sheet file. Haven't tried plotting to a plotter but it doesn't matter. I need to plot .pdf's.

In my 3D View my walls disappear when I de-select the structural box. Although drawn as regular walls they are store front panels so carry no load other than their own weight. My Visibility Graphics dialog box seems to have limited options for this. Am I missing something? How do I get them to re-appear in my 3D View for rendering without switching them to a structural wall?

I have one wall (basic wall) where !'ve edited to profile to have a large rectagle omitted. I have a second wall (curtain wall) that needs to occupy that space with a 1/2" gap on either side and a 1" gap along the top. I can maintain the gap along the top, but when the gaps along the sides shrinks below 1", the walls meet and the gap is reduced to zero. I've tried making the internal wall into a group, but whenever the outer wall's profile is edited to within 1/2", And I click the Finish button, the interior wall (inside the group) extends to meet it. Automatically Embed is turned off for the curtain wall. I've tried locked dimensions, but that didn't seem to work.
How I can maintain the gap without the walls closing?
