Nov 14, 2013To create balconies, do I just extend the floor out to the balcony area and then add railings? Or is there a more appropriate way to do it?

Revit :: Show High Level Walkways And Balconies On Ground Floor Plan In High Volume Space?
Nov 15, 2012How do I show high level walkways and balconies (in dashed outline) on the ground floor plan in a high volume space?
Obviously I can turn the first floor RCP on in the view and manually draw the information, but I assume these lines won't move if the walkways above move (or am I wrong?). Also this seems slightly wrong given the amount of automation available.

Nov 8, 2012I have a stair that along one side of the sloping part is a window. I have 2 railings along this stair, 1 is a chair rail, the other is a wainscot panel. Obviously the chair rail and wainscot cannot be built to cover the window.
How can the railings be "cut" around the window?
I know how to start/stop the chair rail, but the wainscot needs to continue under the window (keeping in mind that the window is horizontal and the wainscot is sloping with the stair.)

Feb 4, 2014I have a staircase from the first floor to second floor with a total of 3 landings.. I need to fix the railing at the bottom to go down to 3'0, right now its sitting at 3' - 6"... AT 3'0" it needs to connect to the handrail that wraps around (the red)...normally I can just edit the railing by pulling it longer but since it was a place on host railing.. it looks like it loops around and when I tried playing around with that to extend the bottom rail.. it gave me an error..

Feb 7, 2013We're using a precise level to as-built and create a dtm of a floor. The client would like us to assess the dtm for changes of grade greater than 3mm over 3m. (The test is based on walking around the floor with a 3m straight edge and 3mm blocks - see Figure 6 in this paper .)
Please note that the floor could be laid on a slope and still comply - it's the grade changes we're looking for. And some of these floors are large so we'd prefer make it as automatic as possible.
As far as I know there's no surface style that can display grade changes. We can shade each triangle by slope, but it will still require manual visual inspection to see if adjacent triangles are sufficiently similar to comply.

May 31, 2012I have duplicated many floors now in the Revit program and applied the same material to them and no matter what I end up with a duplicate area for that material in the floor material schedule takeoff.
Steps taken to correct this so far are:
1. Technical support @ Autodesk suggested that I uncheck the wrap part in the floor edit. The floor already has it unchecked and furthermore the wrap part is greyed out.
2. I have used parts and I guess that I can do this for it works. it is just that I would like to do floors because I don't have to spend time dividing them for a simple material takeoff.
I just want to be able to apply a material to a floor and have that floor shedule the area of that material only ONCE!

Oct 24, 2013The issue is cutting an opening in an existing floor so that in only shows in a new phase.I have created a floor based generic family with an opening tool and added an edge liner as a sweep. It hosts onto the floor and cuts it OK (in section and 3D). BUT in plan view objects below dont show through - see blue dashed on the screen clip. You will see that the red dotted opening>vertical cut show the stair below OK. Have a go (floor opening lined.rfa) and tell me why the opening is opaque!

Oct 1, 2011I imported a scanned drawing into Revit and traced it. I put the walls and floors in, then was inserting doors. I tried to find a particular door, but found I clicked on the wrong door and closed Revit instead of the screen I was in. However, when I brought Revit back up, I could no longer see any Floorplan, but my 3d was still visible. How do I retrieve or make visible Level 1 or 2? (When I tile the Floorplan Level 1 and the 3D drawing, my 3d drawing will turn blue if I box in the blank area on my Floorplan screen, so I assume it must still be there).
The other question I need answered is how to insert the geometric figure/camera that shows each side of an elevation? When I imported my scanned drawing, it was much larger than the area within the four “eyeballs”, but I have tried moving it and don’t see them.
Revit :: Floor Finishes Not Showing Up?
Feb 21, 2013I have a file that I have applied different floor finishes to different rooms based on flooring patterns and hatches - they are not visible in the floor plans . Funny thing is if I make a seperate room outside the project in the same view and assign it flooring patterns - it does show up all the floor finishes. The only reason I can think of is phases. I have attached images for reference.

Sep 7, 2013I'm a 3D artist but recently, due the high demand, I'm learning illustrator for the sole purpose of making floor plans (the artistic colorful ones), I know Photoshop very well and use it extensively, it would certainly be enough if I wasn't going to print the plans at various dimensions, even using smart objects and vectors I don't think Photoshop is the right tool for the job.
I've downloaded illustrator and so far I'm liking it a lot, I believe it's the appropriate tool for the job. However, I couldn't find a quick way to draw the walls precisely.
The biggest problem is I couldn't find a way to 'offset' open paths quickly... when the path is open, it offsets the lines to both sides, as opposed to closed paths, the way I found myself is to use the pathfinder to divide the offsets than delete the ones I don't want, but it's a pain, it's better to just draw both sides of the walls separately instead, what is a tedious process too.
I'm looking for simple ways to either offset open paths to a specific side, or maybe make strokes that are adjacent to the paths so i can use the 'outline stroke' tool to convert them to 'solid' paths, or any other way to achieve the same result.
Revit :: Family Instance Won't Extend To Full Length Of Line
Jan 22, 2014I have made a Family that is based off the Metric Structural Framing - Beams and Braces template. When I import my Family into a project and create a instance of the Family (which is a channel) the channel doesn't extend the whole distance of the geometric line. Its always 1500mm long (thats the default length in the .rfa file). See below image for my problem:
I made my extrusion inside the Left Elevation view and not inside a Floor Plan view; simply because it is easier to create the complex geometry of it. Maybe this has affected its inability to stretch to the length of the line? How can I edit my family so that the extrusion will stretch the whole length of the line/beam?

Revit :: Create A Custom Floor Tile
Nov 5, 2012I'm trying to create a custom floor tile but having issues doing it. 1st I create a generic 12' create floor, then use that floor to create a subfloor to try to create a tiled floor that is offset 1/4" from the initial floor. I select the floor, click edit material, select ceramic tile,.. get to the graphics property, select surface pattern and select 12" tile, click done, then OK but ... nothing happens.
I would also like to customize a pattern. I would like to create a patter that uses a 12"X12" tile with (2) 5 7/8"X5 7/8" tiles.
I tried to use the *.PAT technique but finding it difficult to do what I want so I found the hatch22 but still find that rather difficult.

Nov 12, 2011I am currently modeling a 2-Story Home. I have everything modeled the way I want it, but when I go to the elevations I see a gap where the siding and the sheathing don't touch between floors.
My exterior walls:

The floors are modeled to the stud to allow sheathing and siding to extend. I knew of this situation beforehand because tutorials on the interwebs say this is the way to combat your problem:
I go into the my exterior wall, select edit type, edit structure, (set preview to section) select siding, and then zoom in on the bottom of the wall in the section preview. The bottom of the siding highlights and a "unlock" toggle appears. I unlock it. I do the same to the sheathing. Then I go to my elevations, cut a section, and zoom in to extend the sheathing and siding.
Side Bar: Why don't the two extend independently? They should.

Revit :: Rafter Framing In Floor Plan
Apr 24, 2013I just discovered the rafter framing extensions for revit. It is very handy but at places where there is a hip/valley the rafters are shown until the hip/valley. at all the other places (where there are ridges) they are cut at the place where the roof is cut.
I found another thread where they say to change the visibility settings of the rafter family what I already did before but it does not change anything in my floor plan.
