Aug 3, 2013Is there a way to increase the active history steps in PS to more than twenty?

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to find where in PS CS I can increase the number of steps I can go back in the history palette.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLR5 Win7. I open a previously edited image in Develop module. I click on the first step of the history ("import...."). Immediately, all the history steps disappear, and a new step appears, "Post-crop vignette style: paint overlay." There are now just two steps in my history. When I try to click on the first/origial step, LR doesn't let me do that, it immediately jumps to (highlights) the "post-crop..." step. If I go to the Effects panel, the only option under style is "paint overlay." If I add a few more edits (change color, etc.) they work fine. But as soon as I click on the first history step, the same thing happens again.
Update as i work on this: if I click on ANY previous step in the history, LR adds the "Post-crop..." step at the top and does not then let me click on any previous step.
This does not happen with photos I have edited recently. It only happens with previously edited photos. I think it only happens with photos with 2003 or 2010 process, but it doesn't happen with all of them.
Then I tried opening one of these photos in the Develop module. I create a virtual copy, then go back to the original. I click on the first history step in the original, it does this strange thing described above. If I add more history steps to the original, then click on the first step, it also does this strange thing. However, if I add edits to the virtual copy, then click on the first step, it does not do this strange thing.
What I have tried:
-I have opened and restarted LR.
-I have gone back to a catalog from a few days previously and it exhibits the same behavior.
-I have tried updating the process before clicking on the earlier step, and this does not prevent the behavior.
I wanted to try to re-install LR, but when I try to download it, I get this message, "We're sorry, something seems to be wrong on our end. Please try again later."
How to increase the tone steps to make it smoother?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to learn layers and layer masks. I loaded an image, than control J to duplicate it. I then added a layer mask. Everything good so far. I then went to filters chose a blur. Then went to brushes with black as my foreground color, I just wanted to brush away the blur, and got an error message. "could not use the history brush because the history state does not have a corresponding layer."
View 3 Replies View RelatedEverytime I try to use my history brush, that error pops up and I have no clue why. If I try to just open a blank document and use the brush it does not give me this error and I can "use" the brush but you cant see anything on the project.
so when this error happens im trying to do a project and say I place a file(picture) into the project and this is the very first thing I do. I place it, then I size the image down some. I then make a new layer to use the brush for behind the picture and then this is when I get the error. I have no clue what is wrong
Since Edge only has rectangles and ellipses built in as available shapes, how to I/we work with polygon shapes and active mouseover areas INSIDE of these shapes and non-active mouseover areas OUTSIDE of the shapes?
Problem/symptom: when I import a polygon, be it any file format from from Photoshop or SVG from Illustrator, a rectangular border/background (transparent) gets applied, leading to this rectangle defining the mouseover area of the shape - and not the shape itself (be it a star or whatever).
WHAT I WANT: the very shape defines the mouseover area. How do I achieve this?? See examle below:
WHAT I DON'T WANT: how is is now:
I can only see how to delete the entire history in the history panel. Is there a way I can remove only selected states? I am using LR 1.4.

And I get bad steps (look by the arrows) when LETTING GO of pen pressure. Normal?
NOTICE!!
Both are drawn at 25%spacing which I want, because the pressure gets easier to control.

I am new to creating actions, I have crated a design I am happy with and I want to recreate it easily with an action. The design uses multiple stages and filters, so its a real pain to retrace steps. Is there a quick way to create an action set without having to go through all steps again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I determine the 'steps' in a workpath? I want to fade my brush along a workpath so that it perfectly decreases in size along the whole workpath to the end and so far i just guess as to how many 'steps' there are in the workpath and then keep adjusting. Surely there is a better way....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've heard that when making a photograph smaller in Photoshop the results are better if it's done in steps instead of all at once.
If this is true how much should it be reduced each time and should the change in pixels per inch be done before reducing the image
My camera saves at 300 ppi at 3872 pixels wide (sometimes they are cropped which makes them smaller) and for the web I need about 500 pixels wide at 72 ppi.
I am new to the entire graphics arts area. (I do network design for a living). I have been reading the "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book" and I don't understand their logic for the order they say to use to retouch a photograph.
Their order is:
Duplicating the original image or scanEnsuring that the resolution is appropriate for the way you'll use the imageCropping the image to final size and orientationetc.
For their example they use a picture of a child walking around a ring with a brick wall as the background.
Now, lets say that I wanted the final image to be of the child only and 3 inches wide by 5 inches high, and 72 ppi (pixels per inch) for a print.
I disagree with the order of steps 2 and 3.
In step 2, I decrease the pixel information to 72 ppi.
In step 3, I crop only to get the child
then I import the resulting picture into say Microsoft Word and stretch the picture to be 3 x 5 it would seem to be that I would be way below the 72 ppi desired result.
What am I missing?
I just switched to a mac from PC and I was used to zoom with my mouse scroll and hold shift to zoom in even increments to keep the image as crisp as possible. Now on a mac I still haven't found a way to do this. When the zoom with mouse scroll is enabled (I use Apple's Magic Mouse), I'm only able to zoom in and out getting uneven values such as 88,7%, 97,6% etc - the same action as in Photoshop WITHOUT shift pressed. I've also tried plenty of different keys with mouse scroll zoom.
Is there any way to zoom in even steps with Magic Mouse on a mac? This is driving me crazy, as now I have to select the zoom tool and use it to zoom in and out, which significantly slows down my work flow.
In CMYK mode gradients arent always very soft .. one can easily detect transitions that werent suposed to be....

what should be the normal steps for treating image?
Like fix levels first, or color first or start with shadow higlights ...?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am recently having a lot of fun after I discovered the power of blending. So here is my "protocol": I create two similar shapes, I make sure that they have a colored stroke, I use the blender, then I modify the path with the pencil, and I get this kind of results
I am quite happy with this, because of the fake 3D effect that it generates. I kind of understand that the "3D- shading" effect comes from the stroke color. However, this method has its limitations because:
- it only works with a stroke
- it gives different aspects depending of the number of steps.
Is there any way to smooth the effect created by the strokes to avoid the segmentation seen of the picture above?
Ideally, the best tool would be some kind of "extrude+blend on free path" tool, but it doesn't seem to exist in Illustrator yet...
I have just editted an image, initially by cropping, then making some general tweaks. I saved this as a Snapshot.
After some though, I decided I wanted to change the crop, so I went back to the original image, and re-cropped it. Fine, But now I wanted to re-apply some of the changes made in the Snapshot. How can I see the steps that I went through to create the snapshot? I saw Update with Current Settings on the sub-menu (right click) for the snapshot, but wasn't sure if that was what i wanted to do.
I am having two problems with Nikon Raw Processing and LR4.1.
1st: I am producing and processing content for ESO (European South Observatory), especially TimeLapses. Those sequences consist of hundreds of Images in hundreds of folders. Source files are either from D3s, D4, D700, D7000 or the like.
Several development changes are applied to single key images in a sequence, and those later applied to all images in that sequence. Problem is that after a certain amount of development changes (that are written in to the XMP sidecar files with LR4), hot pixels start to show up in the images that were not visible before.
Seems like the oversaturated pixel information (Hot Pixel) that is always stored within the RAW images, is lost after a certain amount of development changes.
2nd: is there a known trick how to force LR4 into updating ALL thumbnails after development changes, including those, that are outside the currently visible grid view?
It is very time consuming to manually page up and down the grid to have LR4 updating the thumbnails on each page (of for example a folder of 1200 images) so that one gets a preview of the TL sequence with the current development changes in Library View.
I have been trying all week to find out if there is a way to embed editing information into a file upon exporting it from LR. Can you use metadata? What I mean, is, years down the road, I want to remember how I edited a particular photo... Is there anyway for me to do that so it's in the photo's properties?
