Photoshop :: Cartoonist Needs Dot Gray
Mar 18, 2006
Looking for that standard gray that every cartoonist uses and I don't want to use the sticky stuff with an exacto.
I'd like to do it in photoshop but I can't find a brush/painting technique that 1.)doesn't get heavier as you go over the same area again 2.) stays with a regular pattern of dots, and 3.) doesn't require me to close areas to fill them (line theory demands that I break line to show depth so I don't want to close everything just to paint).

I have another question about GREY images.
Example: CTRL+click on grey channel theoreticly (by my theory) make selection from white depending on its value. So cuting out must leave transparent greyscale image. But it don't (okey, it do, but changes black value):
The same selection inverted and filled with 100%K gives correct result: Is my "theory" about CTRL+click selection wrong? Becouse for my point of view, both ways should give same result.

How do I change the default toolbar background from dark gray to light gray in illustrator CS6? In the older versions, the toolbar backgrounds were light gray. It easier to read on light gray backgrounds. THe same question applies to Photoshop CS6. InDesign CS6 has light gray backgrounds.

My company is switching from ctb files to stb files. With the ctb file, we make concrete hatch with two layers. A top layer with the concrete hatch pattern and a background layer with a solid hatch patern. The ctb file concrete plots the concete hatch black and the solid background hatch light gray. I am using civil 3d 2013 and the hatch allows a seperate background color mask. I am trying to make all my concrete layers (Top of Curb, Curb Flowline, etc.) a certain color scheme, i.e. shades of green. I would like my on screen concrete hatch patern to be a green color with a gray background, but plot the concrete hatch black with a gray background. I can not figure out how to do this without making two layers. Is there a way to use one layer and utilize the background color mask to show on screen green and gray, but plot black and gray?

Why does a black through white gradient created in an RGB document have a B channel that differs from the R and G channels?
Â
In 8-bit mode, only some of the "grays" have a mismatching B value and there seems to be more of them when the gradient is created by Gradient Tool than when it is a Gradient Fill layer. The difference seems to be 1 in the cases that I've seen.
Â
In 16-bit mode, I see the B differ from R and G by 7 at black, gradually reducing to 0 at white.
Â
Before someone says, "Why make a fuss about small discrepancies?", I'm asking why there is any difference at all.

When you fill with 50% gray in Pshop CS5 the fill has no effect when set to overlay – this is good!
Â
CC on the other hand creates a 50% gray that is too light and when set to overlay it will lighten the image. This is a pain for creating noise or dodge and burn layers.

I just got my new PC (with a GeForce285 on Vista) and I installed Photoshop CS4. Now my problem is that the gray is not gray. If I fill a rectangle with a basic gray (128,128,128), it paints it with a "tan" color. When I "Save for Web & Devices" for example, the "preview" image is showed with the correct gray. I also "uninstall" CS4 and tried it with CS3 and it produces the same problem. The R,G,B colors seems to produce the correct colors and the B&W are perfect too...

I made a simple logo in pcs5 using RGB saving as jpeg then uploading into blog. The white has a grey hue. I calibrated my mac and checked my color setting in photoshop. I tried CMYK and saving for web and other devices. I did research online and I have had no luck. I even opened another logo, from a different blog, that has a simular setup to mine, into pcs5, saved it and uploaded to the blog to check and it too was greyish. The image is RGB white and looks completely white in preview and pcs5. I just uploaded the image here and it looks okay. Looking at it from an angle and I can see the shadow.

For some unknown reason, my backgrounds are opening with a gray background. All transparent backgrounds are now gray. Background and foreground are black and white so that's not the problem. This is frustrating me because I can't figure it out and I am sure it's something simple that I am overlooking. A

I am building in Photshop CS a site template with several buttons, and moving back and forward between Photoshop and ImageReady.
I don't know what I did but, at a certain moment in time all my layer effects changed the "eye" icon to gray and the effects are not visible anymore EVEN if the gray eye in on. All the images with effects, now, look as no effects would be present BUT the effects have icon eye active (visible) but it is grayer in color than the other eyes.
I can't get out of this state, even if I delete the layers and recreate new ones. The effects are not visible anymore for any of the layers.

I have CS4 and all my gray tone have a strong red cast to them. However, outside of PS, the color looks just fine. I didn't have this problem with CS2. I have combed the internet looking for answers, but the only one I can find is "Calibrate your monitor!". the colors look right in CS2, and the only thing I have changed about my system and/or monitor is my version of PhotoShop (CS2 to CS4).

Accidentally pressed some keys on keyboard, so now I see all layers in gray color, except top layer, that is green, and stays so, also when I draw something, it shows in gray only, though color channels are ok, image mode is RGB and there are no blending options applied.

In Photofiltre, it's dead easy to extract the gray tones from an image to boost up the colours. It's often better than just increasing saturation or so.
But since I have Photoshop CS3 I'd like to do it there. It must be possible to do something like that too. But how?? I just can't find the right way?

When I erase in Photoshop part of a drawing, gray rectangles appear. How can I eliminate them? In other words: every time I erase something, text or drawings, those gray rectangles appear. Is there a way to erase something leaving that part just white, so there I can write or draw whatever is needed?

I'm using CS4 and am trying to make an animated GIF. I've got it all set up and when I play it in Photoshop everything is fine. I then go to File > Save for web and then choose GIF in the dialog box and leave all other boxes alone. In the Optimized window my images are missing and only a grey box is shown. When I hit Save and then open the resulting GIF in a browser, all I get is that grey box and not the animation with my 8 frames.

How does Photoshop CS3 convert from Gray to sRGB in Save for the Web? Every time I use Save for the Web with a Gray scale image, it makes it too dark. While trying to reproduce the results, I found that a Dot Gain of 30% matched its conversion the closest. Does Save for the Web assume a Dot Gain of 30% for the conversion?
This would definitely be a very poor assumption if so. Currently, I have a Dot Gain of 15% in the Color Settings dialog box. As far as I can tell, there's no setting in Photoshop, or Save for the Web for that matter, to set these types of conversions; hence, the reason my Gray scale images are coming out too dark.
