Photoshop :: Appears Way Too Dark On The Receiving Monitor
Apr 11, 2006
After editing a photo in Photoshop to perfection, converting it to a JPEG and then e-mailing it to someone, the image appears way too dark on the receiving monitor. I've sent images to people using both CRT and LCD monitors, set on maximum brightness, and the images are equally dark in both cases.

We've just upgraded a Samsung 21" monitor to a Samsung 30" (305T).
In just TWO applications, Photoshop CS3 and Windows Photo Gallery (Vista64), all photographic images are much too dark. Not subtly, about 3-4 f-stops too dark.
EVERY other of our applications INCLUDING ADOBE BRIDGE AND FIREWORKS, and even Photoshop itself during Save to Web, displays the photos as they should appear.
I've tried setting various profiles in Windows Color Management as the default, including the ICC profile sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (which my reading says we should be using), as well as WCS profiles sRGB virtual and scRGB virtual, and tried using no profile at all. None of these changes makes any apparent difference at all to the images we're seeing.
In Photoshop, I've tried various options too. If set to Monitor Color (Monitor RGB - * wscRGB) Photoshop then displays images as it should. However the Camera Raw display when loading Nikon images is still much too dark, and the Photoshop Save to Web images are much too light. Arrrgh!
The monitor does not include any driver software, just electronic documentation (poorly edited) which offers no advice about this. I've seen references to various Gamma utilities, but not sure that's what I need. Is it?

This is an FYI for others trying to solve the problem I've been pulling my hair out over!
I was receiving a warning on startup of Ps CS3 "The monitor profile 'LCD color management and conversion' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software". This was after using my EyeOne to calibrate my monitor. I've seen variations of this problem on various forums and websites, but none helped my particular problem.
FINALLY, it occurred to me to check the default profile for my SECONDARY monitor! That one was using a stock profile that came with the monitor, but that was what was triggering the error message. Once I replaced that with the same profile as I created and was using on my primary monitor, Ps stopped displaying the warning.
If I recall from months ago when I researched and bought my colorimeter, my model will only calibrate one monitor, so I can't use it to create a unique profile for the second monitor.

Running CS6. 13.0.1 on a Windows 7 64 System. Using two monitors, the main one, an LG Flatron, is calibrated using an Eye One Display 2 and the second display is using the makers supplied profile. This problem only started recently, nothing has been changed on the machine. Working on Sony ARW files I have the CS window on the main monitor and ACR opening on the second monitor. Any image that opens in ACR looks just as it should with the expected colours, but when I open the image in CS6 on the calibrated monitor there is a large shift in colour, rather as though a red filter has been added. Dragging the image back over to the second monitor corrects the colours. This would seem to be due to a faulty, or unapplied, monitor profile - but no!
If I stick with the main monitor and select 'Print' from the Canon Photo Print Pro the image opens in the PPP window but with all the correct colours, no red veil, and the image then prints correctly. I can see the opened image behind the PPP dialogue, still with the colour shift. Two different colour renderings on one monitor! The same thing happens if I open a jpeg in CS6 which opens correctly in Firefox.

Multiline text appears dark with a true type font. I have searched the boards and changed the Z coordinate to "0" manually, as well as the flatten command....still no luck. The text was generated from the QLEADER command, but the problem also applies to text created with MTEXT. I have attached the .dwg.

My friend has taken some engagement photographs and unfortunately the couple have dark hair and the background is also dark - I think you can see her problem with the photos. Somehow the background needs to be lightened and neither of us know how (we both have Photoshop 7)

This is weird, there is one item in my catalog that I cannot delete. Whenever I try I get a dialog box 'Error Deleting media'. I've run 'Repair Catalog'. but that didn't fix it. I've tried deleting the file it is connected to but it still won't let me (either directly or via Find> All Missing Files').
The only other occurrence of this I've traced in the forum is at [URL] .... and that didn't seem to get resolved either. Fortunately though in my case it is just this one file, I can still add files and delete others.

I have checked my User Control Panel, but could not find a way to change notification settings. Is there anything I can do to change things back to the way they were.

When I receive my background drawings from an Architect who is basically exporting to DWG from their VectorWorks program I seem to have difficulty using their PaperSpace Sheets. Usually the border is a block so I just save the block as a file and then XREF it back in and then erase the block. From there it is a mess and can't figure out what is going on or how to fix it. First: I can't find any viewport to modify or scale, but if I click in the right spot I get multiple X-Y references as show in attatched file which are always scaled at 1:1 and as the 2nd attached picture shows is a location for three different viewports that I can't access. The attached picture is shown with the XREF backgrounds turned off so you can see the X-Y locations versus when they are on. How to actually make these in to editable viewports or at least erase them and start over?

I've recently started using Premiere Pro CC on Win7 and noticed that when I apply color changes via Fast Color Corrector (or others) that some video frames don't get the correction. It's an odd thing that I don't see in Final Cut Pro X which I use on a slower Mac. No errors or any other inconsistencies appear and sometimes it's 1 - 2 uncorrected frames scattered here and there or it may be more or larger groups. I suspect it may be some simple setting that I've missed but can't seem to find it. Here's an example. [URL]...

Calibrating the monitor doesn't help.....it means that the brightness of the photos is okay but then again everything else on the screen is too light.
Tried changing color prfofiles etc but no difference.
The strange thing is that it only happens with photoshop....cs, cs2 and elements. With oher programs as I mentioned the photos when dispalyed are the original brightness they need to be.
