Am trying to build a collection of photo-editing tips on the Xara-Users forum -- [removed link -link broken and or requires membership to view]
Xara's a LOT easier to use than Photoshop. But it is different. I know Xara's really for vector artwork, but when you end up using it more and more for photo editing, it's useful to have a bunch of techniques in one place.
Here's a strange situation. 3 of my students have had the Pucker and Bloat tools in Liquify tear holes in their images. I mean really pucker so hard that transparent pixels appear at the liquify point. Their tools were set on the defaults -- not overly strong strength or rate.
What gives? All 3 of the culprits were on Windows machines... (Mid 2011 imacs with Windows OS). The students on Mac had no problem.
Oh, also one of the students with the problem was having it so strongly that the Liquify tools were actually creating tiny copies of the whole image *inside* the torn "holes"-- as if the image is being turned inside out!
Edited to add: I've noticed another couple of weird things with those machines having this problem:The Reconstruct tool and Reconstruct button also cause the holes to be torn... but with those tools, the holes are repeated like the run in a nylon.
I started using CS6 and tried to create multiple copies of the same tear-off selection tool pallette (this works in CS5). In CS6 the tear-off palette disappears when a new one with the same tools is created.

I need some design advice / inspiration. I have an intermediate knowledge of photoshop...just limited talent! (I can do layers, do masking, and some other stuff)
I have a 70-yr old B&W photo of my Mom from when she was just 3 or 4. For a 4x6 party invitation I would like to add some subtle Tiffany-blue turquoise highlights to the picture. (maybe make the bow Tiffany blue, part of the dress, a border....this is where I need the inspiration).
I have about 20 or 30 photos of my daughters with Disney characters. I also have a coordinating autogrpah in their autograph books...
I was thinking it would be cool to somehow scan the b&W autograph and incorporate it with the photo....
I'm making a quick and dirty web photo gallery of some tennis pictures.
I have one questions (Photoshop CS3):
1) Is there some easy and quick way of adding some simple navigation to it? I want to add the following links:
1st singles
2nd singles
1st doubles
2nd doubles
3rd doubles
Is there some way of adding links in Web Photo Gallery, or should I just slap some links in with a text editor?
When I drag the album to a photo I get the error "Error Applying Keyword Tag(s)" Nothing about this in the pdf file supplied! Apparently in the UK we don't get free telephone tech support!

We can't use a board or our feet to "write" in the snow as it is hard to see. I figured I could photoshop it in there to make it look "engraved" in the snow. I've inserted a sample image of what I'm looking for of a similar picture I found online.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis may sound like a simple question for heavy users, but I just got started. I have all my edits completed, splices with transitions, etc. and decided to attach a photo from the available stock to the front of the timeline. I was successful at this, but when I try to expand the timeframe of that photo - pull it to the right to make it longer, it won't budge and is stuck at the given length when I dropped it in. Even at the control panel, I can't lengthen the time. The same happens at the end. I drag in a photo with the idea of adding titles to the end but I can't drag the photo to the right to lengthen the time. Is there something I'm missing?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to use a template photo and onto that one add two more photos, by adding two more layers.
Then I need to delete the original (background) one, which would be the template.
However when I delete it, the entire picture gets deleted, i.e. also the photos I pasted on top of it.
How can I avoid that?
Additional information:
Very strangely when adding a new layer, though in the layer screen it shows that I am adding them,
when I paste the first photo onto the background, it then becomes the background image, rather than layer number 2.
Adding layers to a chosen background I find that the pictures I have chosen to add, whilst looking ok in My Pictures are way to small in the layers pallet, If I try to enlarge them to fit they just go out of focus and pixelate?. something tells me they should all be the same file size how can I convert them, and is this the answer?.
