Photoshop :: Zoom In/Zoom Out In CS
Jan 3, 2004
I tried searching the forums for this topic but the search thing didn't seem to work.
A friend of mine installed Photoshop CS for me (an upgrade from 7.0) and for some reason I can't use CTRL + and CTRL - to zoom in and out, I have to use the mouse with the zoom tool which slows me down quite a bit over the course of 20 or so photo edits.
Can anyone shed some light on this? I checked Keyboard shortcuts in the preferences menu and they were correct. I've made no other changes to the program.

I use Photoshop CS2 to create Designs for webpages. These designs have pixel-exact elements, e.g. a 1-pixel-line from top to bottom.
Now when I zoom in (>100, then I have sort of anti-alias, so that the 1-pixel-line isn't only one blue anymore, but it has different blue tones. I guess for photo manipulations etc. this anti-aliasing zoom is great, but for webdesign it sucks because I don't know if only the zoom make the line "corrupt" or if it really is corrupt.
Is there a way to change this zoom?

The AutoCAD doesn’t show the “intersect osnap” at certain zoom!
The “intersection osnap” between a “hatched rectangle” and a “DASHDOT2” line appears and disappears depending on the amount of zoom!
As I zoom out the “intersection osnap” appears but when I zoom in, it disappears
Why the "intersection Osnap" should disappear as I zoom in?
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,
Kaspersky 2013.

I am working on getting some settings done, moving from 2008 to 2012. How do you set the Middle Mouse Button (wheel) to either Zoom All or Zoom Extents when you double click it? I thought it was set in the Main CUI file.

My keyboard has a zoom key with + and - selections. I use to use this key in drawings to zoom in and out when in the AutoCAD application when we had Windows XP. Now that I have Windows 7 I can't do this. I can't find out how to assign this key on the Microsoft Keyboard interactive software either. I have the other keys assigned as desired.
Can I still use my keyboard zoom key to zoom in and out in drawings? If so, how do I set this up in AutoCAD, or do I need to do this through a Microsoft keyboard application?

I can't find in new max (2013) settings for zoom. I want to set Zoom about mouse pointer and adjust a bit zoom speed (now it is too much for one mouse wheel step).
I can't find zoom settings in 3ds max 2013. Where they are? I think that in previous max it was in Customize -> Viewports tab. But now it is not there.

If I zoom with the mouse scroll "alt scroll" then press the down arrow it opens my file menu, this is 100% reproducible. Zoom any other way will not open the menu. I have searched the shortcuts and can not find any shortcut associated with opening the file menu.
BTW windows 7 system , fully updated cs5.

How do you create a pan and zoom effect, like a video effect, on a picture? The technical term I believe is the Ken Burns effect from a still imagery. I know it can be done in Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro but I want to know if it is possible in Photoshop (CS6). It tried the options using the motion control but all I got was a fade out and fade in between two frames created from my image.Screen capture from Photoshop with the motion control window activated:

It's about two days I am experiencing lag problems with Zoom Tool on Photoshop CC. The strange thing is that the problem appears only two days ago, when instead I've installed OSX Mavericks on my machine about two weeks (the day of the Public Release)
You can notice that from the moment I finished drawing the "zoom square" and the real zoom lapse about 1,5s (same thing for the Scrubby Zoom).
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop, disable plugins and reset tool preferences but unfortunately with no success.
Here are my specs:
Macbook Air Mid 2012 with i5, 8GB Ram, 128GB SSD
Photoshop CC 14.0

I have just recently bought Photoshop, When I use the magnifier, it sometimes zooms on the left mouse button and zooms out on the right mouse button. Other times it doesn't do this. Why does it keep changing and how do I get it to stay on L/R button zoom?
I have just created my new site that has many English teachers on Skype All this was done using Photoshop cs6 but I had the problem with the zoom the whole time!

I have photoshop CS5 and recently my zoom is malfunctioning. I draw on adobe, and more of the time when I zoomed and zoomed out my images still look consistant and smooth. Yesterday, my zoom at 33.3 and 66.7% isn't properly functioning. It distorts the pixels at these zooms, which makes it difficult to see and draw. It used to never do this, and I also didn't change anything in my photoshop to cause a change. Is there anyway I can reset the zoom how it was before? Or reset photoshop?

Recently was forced to switch back to Win 7 from OSX after many years. I have the lastest PS CC on the Win 7 machine with 8 gb of RAM installed and an i5 processor. I haven't used PS on Windows since CS5 maybe CS4.
Admittedly this is not the fastest or best equipped computer in the world but then I am only doing web design at 72 dpi. I do use allot of layers though but that is nothing new.
Whenever I click to zoom in or out the disc starts thrashing and there is a long delay resulting in nothing happening. I have to click to zoom a second or even third time before I can get it to work.
As an example I will use a file that has allot of layers but is 14.1 mb on disc it is 1.3 gb when open. On a Macbook Pro 2011 with 4 gb of RAM I have no issues with zooming with open GL on or off. The Win 7 machine, same file, has significant zooming issues.
I have only one disc in both machines. The Win 7 machine has Mcaffee anti-virus on it but no disc encription. The mac does not have anti-virus installed. I am quite willing to either increase the RAM in the Win 7 machine or get another HD to use as the scratch disc but I don't want to push my boss to make a purchase unless I am sure it will solve the issue and I am not convinced it will.
Would buying hardware solve the issue or would adjusting the preferences somehow solve it. My preferences for performance on both machines are the standard settings PS ships with.

I recently upgraded to CS6. I don't like the way Photoshop zooms now. I've looked around in the Help section, but I'm guessing I'm not using the correct terminology. Basically, I want the zoom to work as it did in CS4.
I want to draw a marquee selection, and when I release the mouse... that is the section it zooms in on. I've played with all the zoom preferences, and I can't get it to do this. How can I make this work?

I'm currently using Photoshop CS5 version 12.0.4. I recently updated my video driver, and now I'm having a problem with my zoom tool.
Basically, I used to be able to select the zoom tool, then click and drag to draw a "box" around whatever I want to zoom in on. This is the behavior I want.
Right now, however, if I select the zoom tool, the behavior is that instead of getting the "box," it just zooms as I'm dragging. That is, I click, hold down my button, and when I drag to draw the box, I instead end up zooming in (or out, if I drag the other way) of my image, until I let go of holding down the button.

In CS3 and back, CTRL+ALT+0 zoomed to actual pixels and the edge of the available area was the edge of the image.
In CS4, the result is an image within a much larger available area, which makes the process of retouching much less convenient because going to the top left, for example, moves outside the image area and, on some occasions, the edges are not at all obvious when the image is a similar colour to the off-image background (I work with a lot of B&W images with gray skies).

Running Adobe Photoshop CS3
Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 3
When I check the "Zoom with Scroll Wheel" box in Preferences > General:
-using zoom tool, scroll wheel will zoom out to the smallest size, but will only zoom in until image is slightly larger than the file window then slides the image left and right or up and down depending on size of file window. When image is slightly larger than the file window, zoom out doesn't work anymore
-using Alt + Scroll does nothing
-Ctrl + Scroll zooms image the way Alt + Scroll should
When I UNcheck the "Zoom with Scroll Wheel" box in Preferences > General:
-using Alt + Scroll scroll wheel will zoom out to the smallest size, but will only zoom in until image is slightly larger than the file window then will neither zoom in or out anymore
-using Ctrl + Scroll slides the image left and right
In either preference setting, using ALT key causes letters for menus in the tool bar to be underlined

I have the trial version of Photoshop CS4. My video is ATI Mobility Radeo HD 2600 and I am running vista on a Toshiba laptop. When I open a .jpg or other formatted picture it breaks-up when shown at various zooms. For example: It will be just fine at 25% or 200% but will be broken-up at 50, 100% zooms. I have the latest video driver.

if I open a shot at say 4000x3000 pxs in CS4, all is normal, however, when I zoom to 66.7% the CPU usage jumps to 80-90% and remains there. At all other zoom levels CPU usage is as low as expected, this seems to apply to any file format and is totally repeatable.

I have Microsoft picture and fax viewer that I use to show off my pictures in a slide show. I can get an awesome zoom to see minute details. How can I do this in Photoshop? Many times, the image becomes blury or pixelated. Some pics, I only want a small detail, so I try zooming in and using the marque tool to capture it and place in a new image, but it there a better way to do this to keep the clarity of the picture?
