Photoshop :: CS4 For Portraits?

Feb 16, 2009

This may have been touched on in another topic but probably not as specific as I need. Can anyone tell me what benefits(specifically, new features, updated features) are there for a portrait studio to upgrade from Photoshop CS3 to CS4? The studio I work for is trying to decide if it is worth the upgrade or if we should just wait for CS5.

Photoshop :: Printing Large Portraits

Jul 16, 2003

If you had to work on a portrait (ie, change a background) and print it at 16x20, what size and resolution would you work on it at?

A 16x20 picture in photoshop @ 300 or even 200 dpi would be quite large, even without layers. I'm just trying to get a good idea of what I should be scanning at, I usually work on images at around 8x10 & 300 dpi.

Photoshop :: How To Equal Skin Colour Of Portraits

Jan 16, 2009

I want to upload on my web site students and college colour portrait photos (in contacts sheets) but they have different skin colour ( most has yellow cast but some don't).
Is it possible to make some action (to take initial colour of some proper skin colour of the portrait) and apply to all pictures. Maybe some plugin is available.

Paint.NET :: How To Eliminate Checkerboard Effect When Resizing Yearbook Portraits

Aug 4, 2011

I've scanned some of my old Yearbook portraits for a project I'm working on. These are, as you can imagine, those small, black & white yearbook photos that are arranged in rows alongside your fellow classmates whose last names start with the same letter as yours.

Naturally, these photos are rather tiny. So I used PDN to resize them to appear larger. Unfortunately, what I end up getting is a recognizable photograph of a younger me, but there appears to be a "checkerboard" effect whereby the horizontal lines appear purplish-blue against a grey background while the vertical lines are somewhat faded. I'm assuming this is clearly because of the fact that I had to resize said photo by several hundred percent.

I'm wondering if there's any way to get rid of that checkerboard effect.

Photoshop :: "outer Glow"/"inner Glow" No Longer...

Aug 16, 2009

I'm created a photo of an alien boy being beamed down to someone's house in a cone of bright white light from a flying saucer, and I tried to use the "layer style" to create the glowing light effect in this cone of bright light - but somehow I'm not getting the "glow" effect that I got before. I'm stumped as to what I'm doing wrong/not doing right to produce the glow effect.  In other words, the outer/inner glow effect no longer works. Can anyone please help me?

Photoshop :: Soft Edges

Jan 11, 2009

I'm trying to create a collage, will be my 10th high school anniversary soon and I really want to do this calmly before hand *ie. not in a rush as i do everything else*

the thing is i like this type of blending: photo blending type on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

but can't seem to replicate it with my own photos. I've tried reading up on various tutorials all over the net but most usually say to either use a soft eraser or vignette effect and i don't think the latter was used here and i tried the eraser and that just turned out ugly! Anyone with any suggestions on how to replicate this blending type ....

Photoshop :: Soft Proof Set Up?

Dec 4, 2008

I'm having with profiling my monitor/printer. I use an i1 Proof which includes the ability to profile my printer but my printer at the moment is a small Epson desktop printer - R220. "Near-as-damn_it" is my usual standard and suits me for general photography. At the moment I am photographing paintings with more exacting standards for reproduction.

I callibrate both monitor and printer. I have read and re-read instructions and use genuine paper/ink. My prints are appear a little darker than my monitor and in fact, the original painting. So can Soft proofing give an idea of the accuracy of the profile? (that's my main question).

Here are my settings

Device to simulate - myPrinterPaperProfile
Preserve RGB numbers - Not checked
REndering Intent - Perceptual
Black Point Compensation - checked
Simulate Paper - checked (which also auto checks the simulate black ink option)

Now, if that's my sofr proof setting and I toggle ctrl-y I am flipping between an impression of my printer profile and the actual display profile - is that correct? If I could put a screen shot of the two on the web,

Photoshop :: Neon Glow

May 17, 2008

RE: Photoshop CS3

I am learning to use Photoshop and doing well(ish) I thought, but am totally frustrated with this probably very simple process that I cannot get.

I have one word that I need to give the effect of a neon glow.

So far I have:

1. Filter
2. Artistic
3. Neon Glow
4. Now, when the Neon Glow (100%) window comes up, I cannot get anything to change or do a thing?
Please give me some direction from here.

My word is there, should it be selected? If so whith which tool? etc.

Photoshop :: Glow Behind An Image

Jul 30, 2004

I have a picture I was asked to make for someone and there are 2 images that I would like to have a gold glow coming from, as if there were a light behind it. It'll be on a black background and there's nothing really fancy about it at all, though if I see anything that'd fit in, I might add it ;-)

I'm guessing that I'll need to place sumthing gold behind the image and add some sort of effect to the border, but I'm not really sure what that'd be.

Photoshop :: Diffuse Glow -

Oct 23, 2004

trying to apply a diffuse glow, but the resulting effect comes out all grey/blue. I've tried the effect on multiple different image types (jpg, nef, etc.) and the results are always the same. I know what diffuse glow is supposed to look like.. and this ain't it!

I was editing on a different windows machine and I applied the diffuse glow. It worked fine. 10 minutes later, I tried to apply the filter again to the same image (started over), and again it gave me the ugly gray/blue look.

Photoshop :: Outer Glow

Jun 22, 2009

I want to put an outer glow round the policeman. I've been trying but I must be missing one important step. I can get a glow or shadow rounf the whole square frame ...... but I want it just around the figure.

I've tried uploading the image here .... but it keeps tellin me that my photo (which is only 45kb) and is called McFadden.jpg is not a valid file type. The photo is a plain white background with an image cut out of a policeman on it. I want to put the glow around the policeman.

Photoshop :: Transparent Inner Glow

I'm trying to create a triangle with an inner glow. However there's a catch, I want the inside of the triangle to be transparent. The idea is that I want to be able to save this as a png and then place it on top of any background to get a triangle with an inner glow filled with the same color as the background. My problem is that no matter what I do I can't get an inner glow without a background.

Photoshop :: How To Keep Soft Edges When Cutting From Jpg ?

I've got this .jpg picture which I derived from one japanese game.

It shows a character in color at the left and its borders at the right. It also have a nasty white background.
What I want to achieve is to get rid of background , making it transparent, while keeping the colored character AND not harming its soft edges. The final file should be .png
I wonder if it's possible and how. My previous attempts were fruitless, as everytime I ended bluring the edges manually.
