Photoshop :: Retain Tasks When Upgrading From CS5 To CS6
May 21, 2012
I have Photoshop CS5 and would like to upgrade to CS6. I have a lot of tasks stored and would like to be able to either have them retained during the upgrade or save the files somewhere and then load them into CS6.

I have previously been using Adobe Creative Suite CS2 Premium Web Bundle where I work. I recently was able to get an upgrade to Adobe Design Suite Premium CS3. I am using version 10.0.1.0
The primary piece of software that I use is Photoshop. I had not had any problems running Photoshop CS2 on my computer in the past. When I upgraded to CS3, I constantly ran into problems with it crashing.
I soon discovered that it didn't upgrade to CS3, but instead installed side-by-side with CS2. I uninstalled CS2 and continued to have the same problems. I have tried a reinstallation of CS3 with no improvement. I have had so many problems that my network administrator replaced my computer with a new one. Installing the software there gave me the same problems.
The new computer has the same baseline image with Windows XP SP2 (32 bit). >Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
> 6600 @ 2.40GHz
>2.39 Ghz, 2.99 GB of RAM
There are so many operations that trigger a crash. To simplify things, I have found that the following steps are easily repeatable and guarentee a crash.
*CTRL+N (New File)
*ENTER (Ok button)
*CTRL+A (Select All)
*CTRL+C (Copy)
*CTRL+N (New File)
*ENTER (Ok Button)
*Crash!
It keeps prompting me to send in error reports to Microsoft to check the status, but nothing ever comes back.

I've been using Photoshop CS6 for awhile now on a very stable iMac i5 with 16GB RAM on Snow Leopard but recently its behaving very badly. I am having problems with very minor tasks like transform, open, save, move, etc. Photoshop gets hung up and the wheel starts spinning. Typically this is a font related problem but I've done every maintenance task known to man and still having issues. I've deleted prefs, cleared out brushes, action, tools, repaired permissions, my fonts are all clean, has nothing to do with time machine or background tasks (that i know of) yet it still runs slow. This is definitely not a slow video card problem, I have an ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 with 16GB of ram and plenty of hard drive space. I've ticked off the "Use Graphics Processor" restarted and the problem persists....
SO, i thought maybe i need to update my OS and get up to speed with the new cat, Mountain Lion. Maybe its just not cooperating with Snowy cats anymore. I completed the upgrade last night and I'm still seeing beachball working on 72 dpi PSD files. I've worked on 3GB layered files in the past with no problems.

I have a Render message that reads in red type "FTL: Virtual device creation failed." And I'm unable to click out of the message box, or click OK or cancel. Nothing happens. There seems to be a problem with my screen as well, it holds onto prior open windows and I'm unable to have a fresh window in Max. Does any of this have anything to do with os Windows 7 Home Premium vs. Pro or Ultimate? Even some of the tasks in Max don't seem to be initializing. For example, I tried to Manage>Set up Project and clicked on file in Windows 7 Home Premium and nothing happens.

I have been using Corel since V3. I recently started using X5 instead of V11 for my daily tasks. Overalll when it stays running all works great. But I have had multiple instances of the application just closing without warning on very simple tasks like editing text, moving text, trying to select a drop shadow and moving around toolbar. This instability scares me. One time it close unexpectely it corrupted the file too. I am used to the once in a while crash but this happened multiple times in a couple of days. When you reopen the same file and do the same tasks again no crash.
My machine 2.8ghz 4mb ram XP Pro SP3.

I have a new machine that locks up when doing basic tasks. Things such as pedit, switching tabs, undo. I am beginning to think that it is hardware related because the same drawing work perfectly fine in older machines
Xeon E3-1240
16GB RAM
MSI Z77A-G41 LGA 1155 MB
Samsung Pro SSD 256GB
AMD FirePro W5000 Video Card
This is the first build with a SSD and this Video Card. I have the AMD V4900 in two other machines and they seem to be adequate but wanted a better card for this build.

I typically work in autocad with the Layer Properties Manager open on my other screen (dual screen setup). I have been having no problem with freezing and other layer management tasks on other files. But on a particular file, the simple task of freezing a layer takes 20 seconds. Other simple tasks like saving and switching to a layout sheet also take near 30 seconds. There only seems to be a few files that ever do this to me.
I have all xrefs updated and she'd purged and audited.
Also, does having the layer properties manager or properties manager dialogue windows open at all times dramatically complicate autocad's processes?

I am using Autocad 2011 although I only use it to tidy my drawings prior to sending to my client, my proficiency is quite basic. I have been tasked with surveying a number of feeder pillars or cabinets with 5 points of data, pt 1 is the centre of the doors, the other 4 points are the corners of the cabinet always in the same order. These can be imported into Autocad as a series of points and then I have to join the dots, and draw the cabinet. I know a little about blocks and that I can create a block of my drawing and place it over the five points, and then I'm stuck as if I change the block once it changes it in all the other positions.
After i have placed the block, I need to list the coordinates of the 5 points, this i do individually using the id command and copy and paste into a table. Is there anyway to speed this up?
I have attached a sketch of what I'm after doing, there could be as many 20+ cabinets in a drawing.

how I can retain sharpness while enlarging a graphic. I'm doubling the size of a graphic and it's getting really fuzzy. I tried the sharpen filters, but they just make it more boxy.

I know that you can export a PSD to PDF by printing the document with something like NovaPDF, however, doing so will result in a PDF that has no text - it appears the text has been rasterized and the PDF document is just a series of images. Is there a way to export a PSD to a PDF and retain the text blocks? This would be very helpful in that the PDF can be indexed, or so that the Find feature works on the document in Adobe Reader.

I'm currently working on a design and come to a point where I want to optimize my work. I have two layers both have its blend mode set to "Overlay".
The top one is at 40% opacity and the second one is at 19% opacity. My question is... How do I merge the two and yet still retain the look that I see on screen?
It perfectly fine if both Layers are identical in terms of blending mode and opacity, but when both are different I have a hard time collapsing the two together so that they look exactly what I saw before collapsing it. I've been living with this for a long time but now I need to know a solution to this.
Is it possible?

I have several 35mm images scanned at 8000ppi and are typically around 450Mb (a few are 500+).
The Problem - to get these onto 1 or more of the various sites on the net I need to reduce the filesize (i.e. the Mb count) (e.g. 1 site has limits around the 30Mb mark) B U T ALSO RETAIN the PIXEL count in order to produce the best possible print.
While I can save as a JPEG at something less than 100%, which does this, I am not all that keen in potentially losing some quality.

Illustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.

I need to use a couple of screen shots in an e-learning course. The screen shots contain text and when I try to reduce the sizes of these images the text becomes fuzzy. I've just worked out how to reduce an image size in Photoshop.
(I'm not the most proficient user; I bumble through processes when I need it.) I've used 'bicubic' and 'bicubic sharper' in the reduction process, but both produce a fuzzy appearance. Is there a way that I can reduce these images while retaining as much textual clarity as possible? images have not been created in Photoshop. And I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm using SnagIt for my screen grabs.

Okay, likely a stupid question - I have a map I created as a .psd with multiple layers. I would like to create a document with two copies of this map in it so I can print two maps on one sheet of paper (i'm trying to save paper).
How do I copy all layers over to this new document? Is there an easy way to make a new document with 2 instances of my map?

Retain Transparency and Set Background Layer with PNG-24 Files
Whenever Flickr converts a PNG-24 file to a JPG, the transparent background of the multilevel PNG gets converted to black. I do not want this. I want PNG-24 file to retain its transparency and have a background color set for handling JPG conversion.
I heard this can be done by creating a 100 percent transparent white layer, setting it as the background layer, and flattening the image.
How do I do this with Photoshop CS3?

I have a style/font combo that really i like to use for text.
My goal is to use it regularly in the future on/with new backgrounds.
Currently I have the text on a background.
All I want to do is (retaining the text) replace it with another background.

I am using PSE 11 on a MacBook Pro, OS X (10.3). I have a lot of old pictures to edit, and they are in date order, which is how I want them.
However, when I edit a picture and save it, it moves it to the bottom, with today's date instead of the original date. I have them set to save with the original as a version set.
Is there any way to retain the orignal dates, short of having to go in and reset the date on every picture after I save it? I really want them to be in date order under their original dates.
BTW, I used earlier versions that were Windows-based, and this didn't happen. When I saved them, the version sets stayed where they were.

Lightroom / rightclick / Edit With / Edit in Photoshop...
This renders the image in LR and then opens it in photoshop, which is fine, how it flattens the image to a locked "Background" named layer. I'd much prefer the file name to be with the document in Photoshop.
Mostly because having file names is important for retouching or various other types of compositing.
When you open mulitple files into Layers from LR, each layer retains the file name.
I would like to open a single image and have it retain the file name.
OR PERHAPS... include a command that opens an image from lightroom and puts it into the current active Photoshop document, which would be a great way to add additional images to a comp

I am upgrading from Photoshop CS2 and this is the version that the Adobe website says to purchase for this upgrade path. The problem is that CS4 doesn't see my installed, working, activated, and registered CS2 installation so it brings up the next screen offering to allow me to install it as a trial version OR list my qualifying product and serial number. The way that it offers to let me enter my qualifying product is via a drop down box with a single entry of CS3 Extended. No way of entering my CS2 there and it doesn't like my CS2 serial number entered with a CS3 product being shown there (says it isn't a valid CS3 serial number...of course it isn't).
