Is there no way to create a shape that is raster with just a definable "stroke"? I know that's IS' terms, but was thinking it HAD to be in here rather than making a circle, CTRL clicking the layer and doing a CONTRACT SELECTION and then delete.
If not, I'm even willing to do this via VECTOR (in PS) if I got to Rasterize the layer.
I apply the exact same stroke to the image on the left as on the blue shape on the right. Instead of getting what I want (and what I used to get), I get this kind of blurred stroke.

Is there some other overall setting I may have accidentally triggered?
I want to unite 2 shapes with stroke. After that, the new shape will receive "Expand..." or "Outline Stroke" and at the end, when I want to scale the shape it becomes like in the image. I made "Preferences">"General...">"Scale Strokes & Effects" and "Scale Tool">"Options">"Scale Strokes & Effects".
It doesn't matter what shape I want to create, the result is the same. How can I solve this?
What I'm trying to do is give the blue box a transparent stroke that will "cut through" the red boxes and show the background underneath, whatever that may be ...white, another color, or a photo.
I can easily achieve this when I give it a white stroke. It'll look like this:
When I change to a background color other than white or even a photo however, I end up with this problem:
How do I make it so that I have a transparent border (not white) around the blue box? Which effectively cuts a "transparent stroke" (space) between the parts where the blue and red boxes intersect?
I am very new to illustrator and on my recent project, a permanent .25 unit stroke has appeared around all of my shapes. I have tried everything to delete the stroke and nothing has worked. When I select the objects, Ai tells me that there are no active strokes set and nothing under appearances either. I have attached an active screenshot to showcase my problem. The pink outline is the stroke I can't get rid of, I'm currently running CS6 under OSX.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy stroke when drawing shapes is center aligned. When measuring the shape it measures from the outer edges of the shape's stroke and not from the center as usual. I dont know how to change the settings back to measure from the center of the stroke of the shape. As I said, the stroke is adjusted to the center align option...? (using Illustrator CS5)

I would like to use a vector object made in AI as a custom shape to be used as a cookie cutter in elements.. I imported the AI file in photoshop but the "define custom shape" entry under "edit" was grayed out.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile,while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
I drew something up on a sheet of paper, scanned it, then traced it's bitmap as line art. I then proceded to edit the vectors to recover all the detail I lost with the tracing. It took forever!
Now that I´m done, I realised there is a problem... how can I color in the drawing, if the lines themselves make up the shape? Essentially, I´m left with blank spaces in between all the lines instead of solid individual shapes that can be colored in.
What can I do? I´m so desperate I´m thinking of creating a gazillion individual shapes with the colors, and slapping them underneath the lines to "improv" a fill. But that will take waay too long, so is there an easier way?
If I could "invert" the shape I have now, so that the blank spaces become individual shapes, and the lines become blank spaces.
I have a shape with a black stroke and green fill. I have a white line segment over it. How do I get it so that the end of the line segment doesn't show over the black stroke of the object? If I try to put the line segment behind the object, then the object fill hides it completely.
I'm new to illustrator and I've tried to search for an answer but I don't know the best way to accomplish what I want to do. Seems like some combination of transparency or knockout groups and I've read a bit about this and can't figure out what I need to do.
I need an outline on a stroke that i drew but when i apply object>path>outline stroke i keep getting my initial stroke applied as well. I only need the outline, not the initial stroke. I use Illustrator CC.

I use a lot of predefines shapes, that are saved in various files. i wanna make a way to directly import these shapes, whithout open files and copy/paste the dsired shapes.
I'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.
I have an image that has a black stroke around it. I'm wanting to make that transparent and add a stroke to the outside of the black stroke, so it will basically be an invisible space there. Is that possible or is there an easier way?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to save and submit a Photoshop file containing both vector and raster art-unflattened- so that it stays vector and raster when the client opens it? The issue is: client wants to be able to zoom in on the whole file and not lose sharpness of the type.
Seems like a reasonable request. So the finished, unflattened file needs to include both types of layers. Someone suggested using Indesign. Could that work? Didn't Deneba Canvas used to work that way?
I'm working with CS5 now and I mentioned the following terrible fact: When I open a vector EPS in CS5 raster settings are always CMYK and 72dpi. I know very well that CS2 remembers my first type in of settings (e.g. grayscale and 300dpi) and use it also for upcoming EPS files during a session. CS5 settings are CMYK and 72dpi always... each EPS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen reducing the size of an image layer, I am seeing very different quality between regular raster layers and smart object layers.
See this image for an example:
Both versions of the image were resized after duplicating the same source layer.
They were then resized to 20% of their original size.
In the top example, the layer was resized immediately after being duplicated.
In the bottom example the layer was converted to a smart object before resizing.
You will notice that the top version of the image has considerably more artifacting than the bottom.
The quality of the raster layer size reduction also seems to have degraded since CS5.
I am using the bicubic setting in Preferences > General > Image Interpolation.
Switching that option around has made very little difference.
Are others seeing the same phenomenon?
I have a pdf file (CMYK) created from Corel Draw - for offset press (simply bussines card - one picture, black and red color. They ask me to make new file with 10% raster in red color? What does it mean? Iunderstand that the file will not be printed in 4 colours.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use image insert to attach aerial photographs. I would like to use the FDO raster connection, but I keep having a problem with the raster image losing it's display order. I use "display order" in the display manager and move the raster to the bottom, but for some reason it keeps popping above the line work and I have to keep sending it to the back.
I put images in drawings quite frequently as they change from year to year and we monitor a large number of projects yearly. Is image insert still the quickest solution or is there a way to ensure the image will retain it's display order when I do a data connect?
I have a drawing that refuses to plot the raster image when i plot to a PDF. It will plot the raster when I send it to the plotter. The raster is visible in the print preview. I've tried using the Adobe PDF driver and the DWG to PDF.pc3.
All I get is the line work.
Plot tranparency is off. Image is at Brightness 50, Contrast 50, Fade 0.

I normally am a Civil 3D person. Learning something new as the company I work for has been tasked with creating some GIS maps for a client. Still have only a couple of months experience with Map 3D. The current task at hand is creating a map of our client's district boundary to replace an old exhibit hanging in client's office. I used mapiinsert to insert 64 MrSID raster images, then data connected some SDF file for the boundary, major thoroughfares, and tributaries. The overall aerial imagery, after clipping, is about 11 miles by 17.25 miles. I am planning to plot this on a 48" x 76" sheet of paper at a 1200 scale.
The problem is that I get about 1/8" of an aerial image and 75-3/4" of blank paper when I try to plot. I have tried to reduce the raster image quality and bumped up the Rasterpercent and Rasterthreshold system variables to their maximum settings with no improvement. Images show when I do a preview, but do not plot out. I also tried creating a PDF but I get the same result with a thin strip of aerial when I do that. I use Bluebeam for PDF.

Yes, I know the HP is only a 44" plotter, but I am plotting to fit a 36" roll so that we can view a check plot before we forward the file to our reprographics company for full size plots. I have also tried different settings on the plotter but nothing I have tried has had any impact.
well i have a problem on solving an autoCAD homework . i have a pdf with the contours of the altitude of an area and i have to rasterize it as an image in AutoCAD 2006 (i put it on windows paint , then i save it as an img (jpg) ) and then i inserted it in AutoCAD. I have to georeference that image and to fix its scale. How can i do that ?
