Photoshop :: Program Error When Using Background Eraser?

View 3 RepliesEvery time I've tried to change the foreground or background colors in PSCS6 it says "Could not complete your request because of a program error" What can I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I started getting an error when trying to set the default colors and then flipping them. I also get a program error when I try to click on the foreground color and manually assigning it with white.
Â
This is a Windows 7 Ultimate, with PS CS6.
Â
I closed the program twice and ran into the same problem, then rebooted and got the same errors. As far as I can tell, this is the only tool or feature acting up, other than the actions which have this step in them.
Â
Looking for an easy fix first, of course. Like maybe deleting the Prefs file? Mac people seem to have to do that regularly.
Â
But, if nothing works, will I need to uninstall PS and reinstall it? Would that also mean I'd have to install all of my filter packages again, too?
I'm trying to figure out the Background Eraser tool. I understand that I am supposed to trace around the subject of interest without allowing the centre mark to touch the subject. I notice that it draws a puffy white border around the subject. Then what? What have I done? I don't see a new layer, new channel, or selection. I am able to "paste", which creates a new layer. This new layer shows my selection with the background painted white.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to use it, a box appears, saying: background eraser could not be used, because the target channels do not cover the composite.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI often use the background eraser tool, however, I have opened two images of layouts which are on a white background and for the first time, none of the eraser tools will work at all. By selecting them they do not erase anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm having trouble locating the background erase tool. When the drop menu opens on the erase button, the only options are eraser tool, scissor tool, knife. Where can I find the background eraser tool?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a background layer and then I create a second layer (a blank one). I then try to erase the background image through the new layer and it doesn't work. What can I do?

Why might the Background Eraser tool have stopped working? The settings I am currently using are Sampling: Once; Limits: Discontiguous; Tolerance: 100%; Protect Foreground Color: checked.    Â
Â
I wanted to remove a head and shoulders photo portrait from a background, and to do so, I generally followed the instructions on a YouTube video tutorial by Ali Baba entitled How to Remove Background Around Lots of Hair Photoshop; Â
Â
which showed to use the eraser tool.    Â
Â
My background was an off white color, with a shadow from the subject on some of it. I made a layer on top of the photo and filled it with red (instead of the dark blue in the video, so it would contrast more with the black hair of my subject); then I copied the photo into a layer and put it on top of the red (unlike the video where he erased off the original.) Then I erased away the background. Then I took the steps shown to work around the hair. At that time, the background was still not closely erased around the ears and shoulders and I put the job away for a while.
Â
When I came back, I used the Quick Selection to select the area from the entire right side that wasn't erased yet.  But I didn't know how to erase the selection, so I went back to the Background eraser and erased the rest of the right side away. Then I deleted the selection.Â
Â
For some reason, however, I am not able to erase any more on the left side, and I am stymied as to why not.
When I'm gonna write my program stops and appears a box that says Run time error and close my program. What is that, what I coul do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI scaned an iron on pattern. Now I want to remove the background color which is white. I thought I could use the magic eraser tool. It does a good job for most of the project, but I have to click on every small area. The reason that I want to do this is to being able to print on any color card stock. Is there another way of doing this.

WHEN I USED THE BACKGROUND ERASER TOOL FOR THE FIRST TIME IT ERASED THE BACKGROUND TO WHITE OK .
NOW WHEN I USE IT IT ERASES TO A CHECK PATTERN COLOR.
MY QUSETION IS HOW DO I CHANGE THE COLOUR OF ERASER TOOL SO WHEN I ERASE SOME BACKGROUND IT GOES TO WHITE .
I am reading a tutorial about the background eraser, and in this tutorial, on the screenshots, the erased parts are in red. It is the same red than the default one for the mask mode.
Is there a mode to see the mask color instead of what there is beneath the layer ?
Note : Maybe the tutorial author put a red layer beneath the current layer...
When I use the quick selection tool (or when I use content-aware scaling) I get an error message saying "could not complete your request because of a program error." I am working with NEF files, 4 GB of RAM, fast machine with plenty of scratch space, Radeon X1950 crossfire graphics card. With small .jpg files, the problem doesn't occur.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Elements 9 I now get an error message "Cannot use Clone Stamp due to program error".

"Could not complete the clouds command because of program error."
I tried resetting the computer and still nothing.
I have chosen to use the eraser with fuzzy edge to remove the background from a dog subject. I created an Alpha channel and made a copy of the original image as suggested in the tute. When I begin to erase it works for a few stroke then stops erasing. By trial and error I found that If I select back and forth between the original and the copy it will erase a little on each but this seems to be an irregular way of doing the job and this is not what the tutorials show. What I erase shows up on both the original and the copy, that is they compound the erasing. Should this occur? Why can't I complete the erasing on just one image. While it does achieve the removal of the background I feel I am doing something wrong.

I have been re-saving many of my PSD files using CS3 image prosesssor with compatibility mode turned off. They have simply been saved again as PSD files into a different folder - no changes to the original PSD files. This has worked well and reduced file sizes by up to 50% (I had compatibility mode turned on previously).
of the 60 files I have processed, 3 will no longer open , I get a message that says "file will not open due to a program error."
these files have only ever been used in CS3. , they are quite large
from just under 1GB to 1.5GB, however other similar large files have processed successfully. I have re-tried without success.
I still have the original files so no data loss is involved.
I've been trying to use the Eraser Tool to erase a background sky and it won't erase. The Alpha Channel is turned on, the Selection Tools work, but the eraser does nothing.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've converted hundreds of photos to B/W and used the eraser tool or masking to bring out the color detail from background.
I received one last night exactly the same image information that was on the other files. It was taken from my daughter's cell and previous pictures she sent never had a problem.
.jpg
72 PPI
RGB-8bit channel
Duplicated the background converted it to B/W in the Effect>Photo Effects>Black and White Film Clicked on eraser and instead of my daughter's white teeth there was an orange transparent area where I erased.I tried masking with the same effect.
I have a jpeg of two people standing in front of some foliage. I want to use the background eraser to remove the foliage. The tool removes most of the foliage but leaves small unerased areas all over. I have to go over it many times to remove everything which takes ages.I am using the default settings for the background eraser tool. The only setting I have changed is the size (to 150).It certainly does not seem as easy to use this tool as the Corel tutorial on background removal makes it seem!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Wacom Intuos2 tablet with GIMP 2.6.12, and it works fine except as the subject says, the eraser works like a brush. In Photoshop, I don't recall exactly what it does, but I believe switching to the eraser (meaning flipping the pen over to the "eraser" side" switches from the foreground color to the background color, so that it effectively works like an eraser.
How can I do that, or something similar, in GIMP? I've searched everywhere and most of the posts have to do with getting the tablet recognized (check) and implementing pressure (check).
I'm using cs3 on a WinXP computer and over the last few days I'm all of a sudden getting a pop-up box stating that a (some tool) could not be used because of a program error. Does anyone know what this is all about and have any ideas on how I can fix it? I've restarted PS and rebooted several times and that does not help.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and today when I tried to use some actions on my photo a pop-up came up saying the request cannot be made because of a program error? Has this happened to anyone before and how can I fix it? It would stop the action like halfway and not continue.
View 3 Replies View Relatedtried to open the following image formats this morning...bmp., tga, exr and everytime photoshop would give me this error" could not complete request because of program error" and when I checked the open dialog box those formats were not in the list.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe're having an issue with saving files using Photoshop CS6. Several of our users are unable to save, specifically on our server. They all get the "Could not save because of a program error" message. It doesn't seem to happen on the computers running Lion, but most of the people running Snow Leopard have the problem.
We've tried resetting the preferences, repairing permissions, etc. I read somewhere about unchecking the "ask before saving a layered tiff" button, but none of them seem to solve the problem.
How do I reinstall Photoshop CC? I appear to have created a problem by installing Photoshop CC over Photoshop CS6 and then deleting Photoshop CS6. When I open Photoshop CC i receive a message that there is program error. The Creative Cloud Application Manager seems to think that everything is OK and won't let me reinstall Photoshop CC. I am using an iMac and have Mountain Lion OS installed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Photoshop daily (7.0). Just recently, I tried to save a photo and got the message "could not save because of a program error". After getting the message again tonight, I re-installed Photoshop on a NEW computer, (went from Windows 7 to Windows 8), transferred my images and got the same message. The strange part about this is that only some of my photos can't be saved - even those taken the same day. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
Â
Details:
- they can't be saved in any format. I tried jpeg, tiff, png, etc. Same message for all.
- they can't be saved externally. I tried to transfer them to an external drive and got the same message.
- I tried uploading it to an online editing site and renaming it, then re-opening it in photoshop. same message.
I can't open photoshop cc, by the morning it was ok, but suddenly i doesn't work. I reinstall and nothing.
