Photoshop :: Panel Minimum Size Restricted To 132 Pixels Or More?
Jul 15, 2012
I've been trying to make my own panels in Configurator 3 for some time now and I posted about this problem in the Configurator -board. But it wasn't until now that I realised that this issue is a lot bigger than that: it applies to EVERY panel inside Photoshop - not just custom-built ones.
The issue that I'm having is that I'm trying to create a custom toolbar and Photoshop wont let me specify proper dimensions for it. As you might know, toolbars are slim. The original one is 30px/60px (single row / double row) - give or take. So I want my custom toolbar to be roughly the same size: 60 pixels in my case.
The problem is that Photoshop refuses to set a panel's width to anything below 132 pixels upon application startup - even if you've resized the panel before you closed Photoshop. So what I have is a 60 pixel custom toolbar that every time I start photoshop, rescales itself up to 132 pixels - and I can't get around this by setting a maxwidth value to my toolbar inside Configurator. This is EXTREMELY annoying, and there does not seem to be a workaround at all. I'm actually starting to believe that this is something that has been hardcoded into the software by the programmers at Adobe.
Also, I've seen other ppl having the same problem and afaik, the issue has NEVER been resolved.
Try this yourself: Take the navigation panel (just as an example) and make it slim. Close down Photoshop and then start it up again. The navigation panel scales up itself to 132 pixels. (You can check this with a print screen, and then using the square marquee tool to see the width of the navigation panel).

I am working on basin areas for a very large project area When I use the catchment option, it will give me the immediate area around the point I have selected sometimes no more than a acre, and it is obvious that the contributing area extends well beyond the lines of the catchment area. Is there a way to adjust the catchment area to a minimum size so it will look beyond the immediate contribution and search for the actual basin area, or am I just wishing/dreaming?

I have been told that you can reduce the number of pixels in a picture, but keep the size of it.I am unsure about this, so I thought I would ask the experts as it were.I do know the JPEG image compression when saving, but is there any way you can specify the number of pixels?

My Plugin does not use global suite references. Instead it acquires and releases suites as required. The problem is with the panel. I want to get the size of the panel when the size is changed (so I can change size of embedded wxpanel accordingly). To get the size, I need to acquire panel suite. However, the SetSizeChangedNotifyProc callback method only provides panelref and no message or anything else. How can I get the suite in this scenario?
Also this piece of code to embed wxpanel inside aipanel, handle resize etc is going into a dll so that it can be used by multiple plugins. So I do not want to use global suite ptr.

Why is the pixel ratio of a project in illustrator different than that of the same pixel ratio of a project in Photoshop? Example: A project can in Illustrator can have an artboard of 950px X 950px and be 12in and in Photoshop that same pixel ratio will be 4 3/4in.

I have noticed in Photoshop CS5.1 and CS6 strange behaviour when saving for web file as PNG-24.
case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k
case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k
Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?

I have many images of slides scanned at high res (4800 DPI, maximum pixels 5214x3592). Although I will be saving these as loss less TIFs, I also wish to make JPGs from them that I wish to be just less than 5 MB in file size. Aside from cropping, I know I can achieve such a reduction of JPG file size by a combination of saving to lower quality JPG compression or reducing image size. My question is, what is theoretically or practically better, achieving this mostly by reducing image total pixels or by reducing JPG compression quality.

How do you see the size of a selection (in pixels?). In Photoshop this would be in the info dialogue window. I'm not finding the equivalent in GIMP (2.6).

Is it possible to set specific a combination of size (in pxls) and dpi? (in Illustrator CS5)
I need to create a .png document which is 16x16 px and 96dpi. The ability to chose the dpi size when setting up a new doc is very limited.
The only thing I've managed to do is create a 19x19 px 72dpi image, export it "for web" and then take it into photoshop and change the dpi to 96.
Is there a better, easier way? Also, we're considering upgrading to CS6 - are these features better in CS6?

n CS3 I could change the size of thumbnails to be large, but in CS5 it only allows me to do that from the upper bar (left side top). I can barely see the brush imags on the palette (right side). How do I change them also? Here are the two screenshots showing how dramatically different the sizes are. In CS3 I could adjust them with the down arrow on the palette, but that option is not available on CS5. (See 3rd and 4th screenshot of cs3 versus cs5.) CS3 has "large thumbnail option).

How can I reduce the size of the Pencil tool to as little as 1 or 2 pixels? I want to draw fairly fine shadows, and have figured out that creating shadows requires smudging or blurring gradients of black-to-grey, but the default options in the Brushes toolbox are far, far too large.

So I just switched to Autocad 2013 Mac from an old XP version, and I'm having some serious difficulty just starting a basic drawing. When I open up a new drawing my model space has a very limited size. It's roughly 200 units in any direction, in any from of measurement (inches, cm, etc). I've tried changes the Limits to very large ones, but that had no effect, and I've tried turning limits off. Also no luck. Basically, if i try to draw a line or anything that is bigger than what my model space is confined to, the line goes off the screen, and it wont let me scroll or zoom out to find the end of it.

This is for Rectangle Select. I read somewhere else that it's possible but it didn't say how. I would also like to change the default for fixed ratio from 4:3 to something like 1:1 (square).

I need to have a pic finish at (width-3072 and height- 2048 pixels). When I click on file>new I put in those dimensions, but when I am done with pic and I export it, the picture shrinks to very small. The only way around this is to maximize the image in Gimp to 100% and use my snipping tool to outline the image, then "save as". This will save it large, but not the size I need.
My brothers and I took some pics and I added a couple things in one of mine, to try to fake them out. If the size of THAT image is way different than the rest, the fake out will not work. I normally use Faststone to re-size my images but it will not re-size my Gimp images.

I've been using GIMP to make GIFS for a long time now, but recently the "optimize for difference" option I've used is having the reverse effect it should have- ie, it's making the file larger. Here's an example. It's the exact same image, same dimensions, same amount of colors. The first one is unoptimized, each frame is a full picture, and it's file size it ~149kb. The second one is the same as the first, except optimized with about ~50% of the pixels removed from each frame (except the first frame obviously), and yet it's file size is ~155kb. I can not for the life of me figure out why an image with most of it's pixels removed is creating a larger file size. [URL]...

If I am constantly making frames in photoshop for use in the video world (ie. They will be on TV) the pixels need to be rectangular (or 4x3) in aspect and not square.
I know in programs like After Effects and Combustion you can set when saving an image whether or not it is square or rectangular pixels.
How do I do this in Photoshop if it can be done?

I'm replacing my "standard" end marks with my own logo for when clients are in the studio to view image. What is a good general size for them that isn't too large? How many pixels wide (and yes i know it depends partially on how wide I have the panels set, but for the default settings on the program on a 23" moniter) is best to start with?
