Photoshop :: What Are Conditions That Make OpenCL Unavailable
May 16, 2012Up to 2 days ago I had ATI Catalyst 12.2 installed. I was able to check all the boxes in the Advanced Graphics Processor Settings dialog and they stayed set. Specifically, I had [ ] Use OpenCL set and Photoshop CS6 worked very well.
Because I need to know about the quality of newer drivers for my own product development, I upgraded my ATI driver suite to the current version - Catalyst 12.4.
Unfortunately, this caused new problems I hadn't had before - specifically a number of GPU-accelerated features didn't work, such as Oil Paint, which would appear to try to start then just exit a split second later. And with Catalyst 12.4 the [ ] Use OpenCL setting became unavailable (grayed-out).
With my own testing done, I decided to completely uninstall the ATI Catalyst 12.4 suite, and drop back to Catalyst 12.2.
This was a simple matter of uninstalling everything AMD then rebooting (with the Windows driver), then installing Catalyst 12.2. That went smoothly. However, now I still do not find the [ ] Use OpenCL box has become available again - it's grayed out:
there are no remnants from the 12.4 drivers left on my system (though there's a possibility I could have missed something), and everything from the 12.2 set installed successfully, so the question is this:
Did Photoshop sense something about the 12.4 driver set, then set some kind of permanent "No OpenCL" flag in its own configuration settings? Here's my system info with the 12.2 drivers installed. Note the "OpenCL: Unavailable" entry. URL....
Note that all my GPU-accelerated features seem to work... Oil Paint works and is plenty fast, the various Blur tools work nice and fast, I can do 3D rendering (though there's one small glitch I've had since Photoshop CS6 was released where occasionally it becomes unresponsive for a few seconds at a time while doing 3D work). But it does finally respond.

Mar 24, 2014In trying to get to grips with the Color management aspects of PSE11, I have encountered the following problems: Having selected "Display" a sequence of clicks (Change display settings -> Advanced settings -> Colour Management -> Colour Management tab -> Colour Management) gives a screen which includes the headings:Device Profile and Viewing Conditions Profile.
1. Device Profile. Besides sRGB and ARGB, the profile list includes the profiles for all of the Epson papers.I changed the Profile to an Epson Grayscale, this was accepted within the menu, but there are no changes from normal when I viewed the image on the Windows screen or within PSE11. ("normal" is sRGB or ARGB). I thought it worth a try to test that, if I wanted the display image to closely represent what I would get on a particular Epson paper, this may be a way to do it.So what is the purpose of all of the paper Profiles appearing in the Display listing?
2. The Viewing Conditions Profile has also several options. I have tried to find the criteria for choosing one rather than the other, but failed to find any information. I seek general guidance rather than the details of the Profiles.
Selecting Image on the PSE11 menu across the top of the displayed image, and then Convert Colour Profile, I tried this process on an image, converting tiff to sRGB. When saved there was an extra asterisk in the saved title but in this case, the file was still labelled tiff and there was no change in the number of Mbs. If a conversion has taken place, how is one to know? Does saving a tiff file as jpeg change its colour profile? When is it useful to use this feature?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Startup Crash Under Certain Conditions?

Set STARTUP to 2, and make sure the Sheet Set Manager palette is visible.
Close Civil 3D, then restart it.
It should open in a zero-document state, with the SSM palette visible.
Now open a sheet set, and double click on a sheet in the SSM to open it.
When I do this, I get four "Unhandled Exception" dialogs in a row, then C3D disappears (crashes!)
Lightroom :: No Images On Memory Card Meet Download Conditions
Jan 5, 2014I am suddenly getting the error message "No images on the memory card meet the download conditions" when I try to import my pictures into Lightroom 5. My other cameras are importing to Lightroom as always... just fine. I have tried a direct import from the camera and also an import with my card reader and I get the same message. I have also changed cards with this camera and get the same error message.

I've tried a few different things...obviously rendering different lighting effects, but nothing comes out with this very bright spectral light.

Jul 17, 2013We have no lighting effects in the SDK so we've been looking at work around for how to introduce them.Our game takes places on various planets in the solar system. It will be viewed from the top down so the player will be able to see terrain and structures.
The game is going to be compiled mostly using 2D map art and 3D animated models imported as sprite sheets.Because there are no lighting effects we are adding them to the models using the modelling software. All of game maps are being built with a white light. We are instead looking to add a block image canvas with the colour set to that which matches the planet it is set. With the opacity reduced to 25-35% it then gives the map and models the correct light ambience. Before our developer started testing this out in the SDK I used photoshop to come up with the solution. I found that we got the best results when setting the canvas block colour layer to 'soft light'. The only problem is when I export the canvas on its own and send it to our developer it seems to lose the soft light effect.
My question is, is there a way to export the soft light effect? Simply using normal mode and changing the opacity doesn't make the light ambiance look as natural.If you scroll down on the link below you will see two images of the same location. I have taken a flat pattern design and created a cylinder from the mesh preset dropdown. Screenshot attached of the rasterized 3d layer.
I have the angle and scale I want, but I'd like to remove all shadowing. Is there a way of turning lighting off completely and retaining the colours of the original flat pattern design?

Sep 26, 2012I'm having trouble getting my 3D lighting to look, well, believable in PS CS5 Ex. I've moved them around, tried different types of lights, and nothing seems to give me proper shadow contrast and glare and shine on my material. Here is a screen of a dining room setting I'm building (preliminary stage) by combining 2D and 3D elements.
The corner hutch on the right is the 3D piece and the two on the left are 2D. The walls, ceiling and floor are also all 3D as well.

Oct 8, 2008I am currently attempting to apply an image, and then filter -> lighting effects -> any light effect. When I apply the affect, at the bottom of my applied image, it appears as though there is a spot that was NOT hit with the "apply light effect." (So, basically, that spot looks normal while everything else is shadowed above it.)
I am running Photoshop CS2, the image is in RGB,
I've experimented by taking a layer and filter -> lighting effect to see if it had the same outcome, but it did not. It appears this is only a problem when applying the image.

The lighting for that image is giving me some trouble. I'm not really sure how to describe the problem but will try.
Being as how the image shapes are "round" and 2-dimensional, I want the lighting to be equal in every "quarter" ... as if the viewer is literally looking from the angle of the sun (sort of "dead on" lighting).

Apr 6, 2006I'm designing a ticket for the senior prom with photoshop. Basically I have a plain black background, with a layer of text over it.
I'm trying to place three red spotlights on the black. The them for prom is hollywood.
Whenever I go to Filter<Render<Lighting effects, I pick three down or whatever, and make them red. The lights do not show up on the preview though... The dots do, but not the lights. If I pick an omni light it works...but not spotlight or directional. If I hit okay, nothing changes on my ticket.

From time to time I observe the following phenomenon:
I want to apply the lighting filter to a graphic. And nothing happens. The dialogue window won´t open, no effect. Only the history list registers: "lighting effects". I think I remember the problem from earlier versions.
What takes it to make the filter work?

Oct 22, 2004I've noticed that for the last few images I've tried modifying the lighting with (using Filters>Render>Lighting Effects), that it will not change the bottom row of pixels, for any reason. I've changed the angle of the lighting, and tried all combinations of effects, none of them doing anything to the very bottom row, 1px thick. I can still modify that row myself, and other filters work on it normally, but lighting effects refuses to.

I have rasterized my text, so it's not that. I have also checked that I have the lighting style files in the folder where photoshop is installed, I have even dowloaded and added some new. It didn't help.
