Photoshop :: IPTC Profiles

Sep 12, 2006

I'm currently working quite a lot with IPTC information from different images that are then uploaded to a web site and parsed with Perl's Image::IPTCInfo module. However, I've stumbled across some images that can't read by this module but the IPTC does show up in Photoshop.

Therefore, I went ahead and examined a "good" image file with the "identify" tool provided by ImageMagick and the following is a sample output (for the IPTC profile). I divide it into two sections for explanatory purposes. Section 1:

Code:

Photoshop :: Find ICC Profiles / No Scanned Profiles Are Available

Trying to find ICC Profiles. I am a college student going for my BS in Photography. Our assignment is to take photo paper from three different manufactures and download the ICC Profiles for each of our papers chosen. Let me tell you this is not as easy as it seems! Where I can find the profiles for Adobe PS for different types of photo paper. Each manufacture only gives the ICC profile for their products. No scanned profiles are available.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2013 - Dynamic Surface Profiles Acting As Static Profiles

I am having some issues with surface profiles on a dreffed alignment no updating dynamically.

Currently it requires me to set them to static, then back to dynamic and they update.

I am well aware of the issue of dreffed surface profiles staying static. I am using the work around of dreffing in the surface and sampling in the drawing using the dreffed alignment.

Photoshop :: Any Way To Change IPTC Metadata In PSB Files

Jan 2, 2013

I created an file by combining a number of images into a panorama. As is expected, the panorama picked up the IPTC metadata from one of the source images, and saved it into the resulting file.

If I had saved the file as a psd or tiff, I could easily use Bridge or Lightroom to change the IPTC metadata after saving the file. But Lightroom doesn't even read psb files, and Bridge won't let me change any of the metadata (the metadata appears to be read-only).

The only way I could figure out to change the metadata was to use exit tool. It seems very strange that a third-party tool is required to make rather simple changes to what is (I believe) a proprietary file format of Adobe. Or am I missing something?

Lightroom :: IPTC Data Not Transferring From LR3 To Photoshop

Feb 22, 2012

When adding metadata in LR3 I have LR set for 'IPTC and EXIF'. I add keywords, copyright info, etc. Under IPTC I add location info - city, state, description, caption, etc. After exporting to CS5 and opening in photoshop - going into 'File Info', second tab - 'IPTC', the location info fields are blank in the 'Description of Image'. Am I assuming incorrectly that this is the same info from LR and that should 'tag' along to the PS file? Other data such as, keywords, copyright, EXIF, are being transferred from LR to PS.

Would be easier for me to select multiple images, apply the info, sync and go on. I'm having to go back into PS, add the info, export a template and apply that template to each file.

Photoshop :: How To Import Info Of Excel File To IPTC Of Batch Of JPG

Nov 10, 2012

I have a batch of 5000 pictures (jpg). I need to add the information that I have in an .xls file (Excel), from a column with the description of each picture. Each description is different from the others, so I would have to assign the code number of the file jpg (first colum of the excel) to the correspondance info that exists in the column of the description/caption into the IPTC field.

I have tried several ways, applications that I have found through Google, but I have no way to do it. It seems that the origin of the problem is the xls file or the txt file that I have had to created to try to do the importation. In any case messages of errors like "the file does not exists", etc etc.  I don`t know what to do it. It's very important and urgent for my job.

* I work with MAC OX S 10.7.5,  Adobe Photoshop CS5.1

* I have tried applications like:  DIY Metadata, VRA Export-Import Metadata and another ones... which names I don't remember now.

Photoshop :: Inadequate Date Created Feature In IPTC Panel?

Mar 16, 2013

I am currently having a service digitize about 3,000 of my photos, shot of 35mm film. I am entering IPTC metadata using Photoshop's File Info….

I want to use the Date Created feature. Fortunately, I have the exact calendar day of most of my photos. However, in a few cases, I know only the year and the month, and not the specific day.

I have discovered the Date Created feature doesn't support entering only a year and a month (unless I'm missing something.) I thought it would support, for example: 19860100, for an unknown day in January 1986.

Photoshop :: IPTC Extension Info Not Appearing In Correct Spot In Metadata

Apr 4, 2012

This is a technical point...

Step by step:

- with an external dam software (IDimager), I assign the tag Event ("Iptc4xmpExt:Event") with, say, "TEST", to a jpg file.
- I update the file, then close IDimager.
- I open PS, open the jpg file and look at its informations (File > Informations)

Under "IPTC Extension", the box "Event" is empty... No more "TEST". I look at "Advanced" and I find this :
> no "IPTC Extension",

If I check the tag Event with an other program (XnView which allows to see the XMP, or the free and excellent EXIFTool), all is right. There is no problem with this mysterious "_1_" added by PS at the end of the Event tag name.

Paint Shop Pro :: X6 Crashes On Hierarchical IPTC Keywords

Sep 25, 2013

I already had a thread about PSP X6 crashing (URL....), but what I finally found now deserves a new thread, because it has nothing to do with MSVCR90.DLL, but with PSP handling the keywords, as it seems now after tests.

PSP was crashing when opened in a certain folder, so I renamed the folder, created a new one, and copied the images from the old renamed one 2-4 pieces at a time. I then opened PSP on the new folder after each copy, and all went well until the last 2 copied images. I then deleted them, copied again each of the 2 images separately, and found the culprit. It was the only image in that folder being tagged with hierarchical IPTC keywords. Moved the image from the folder, copied others into, and all went well again.

Navigated to another folder with older pictures, all tagged hierarchical, and PSP crashed again.Even after deleting the hierarchical keywords from that image, and renaming it didn't work. As soon as PSP founds that image it crashes.

Taking a look into the database: Indeed there is no structure for hierarchical keywords. And this is for me almost a real catastrophe! Both Lightroom 4 and Xnview can handle hierarchical keywords, which are very useful. Because I'm working with these software as much as with PSP, I started to tag my pictures accordingly, about 1200 of them until now, which took hours and hours. Xnview can even nicely create nested categories from the keywords, so it's one click to find all pictures with a given word.

Lightroom :: Make IPTC Extended Metadata Searchable

Mar 11, 2013

For many photographers the IPTC Extended fields play a big role in organizing and finding images. Therefore it is crucial that this information is searchable. But neither the Text filter nor the Metadata list filter make use of this metadata.

This should be implemented since not being able to use IPTC Extended metadata within Lightroom is a big disadvantage.

Lightroom :: IPTC Location Data Not Creating Keywords - V 3.6

Mar 7, 2014

I've been using v3.6 with Win Vista for a long time and also use Geosetter to Geotag my RAW images with location data.  Geosetter creates an XMP file which includes the location data. I then update the metadata of the image in LR.  In the process LR has always created keywords using the location fields e.g Country, State/Province etc.

I've now moved over to Win 8.1 and re-installed LR 3.6 but still use the same catalog.  Now when I go throught the same process as above the keywords are not created.  Geosetter is the same version although the Exiftool version has been updated.

Lightroom :: Adding Further IPTC Sections To Print Outs

Nov 12, 2011

I am photographing and cataloging the paintings and drawings of an artist. There are over 3,000 of them. LR is such a good database that I am hoping I can use just that and add the details into the IPTC data - Title, Medium, Date created, Size, Price, whether sold and to whom, and  - crucially - which shelf in the artist's store building they are located.

My idea was to use SlideShow Pro to publish the catalog to the web for dealers to browse, and my experiments show this would work very well, with IPTC data available on mouse-over.

I also need to produce a catalog with images and info for the artist's assistant so that she could quickly locate a requested painting on the correct shelf. Again this seems feasible up to a point as it is possible to print out the photos with IPTC information.

BUT - and here is my problem: I do not want all the info that the artist's assistant needs in the catalog to be available on the public slideshow, so have put different bits of info into different IPTC sections. But then I come across the limitation of printing in LR  - only one section of IPTC info is allowed.

As it is I am at the moment also entering the info into a database (File maker Pro). I find on a good day with the wind behind me I can crop and adjust and catalog about 30 paintings an hour in LR. Also adding the info to File maker nearly doubles that. And more importantly it will be clunky and prone to error to have to alter or add to two separate databases in the future.

Lightroom :: Moving From Folder Structure (EXIF / IPTC)?

Jul 18, 2013

I have +25k images organized in a folder structure today. This structure has served me well for many years, but I realize that it has it limits.Testing Lightroom made me decide to go for a new approach, but having some 'nightmares' of how to include my images from my old folder structure (25k images....)

I know I can keep my folders intact in Lightroom, and I have done this. But I also want to have some kind of description on EXIF/IPTC. Today this description is in the folder name, and only there.

How can I automatic include the images current folder name into the image file IPTC Caption or any other EXIF/IPTC field? I want to do this for all images and folders in one batch, and not select each folder manually.

The old images will be more in line with images I import from now on, and they will at least be universal searchable based on the old folder name.

Is there any software that's ready to go for this? Could it be a task for Automator?

I have access to both PC and MAC for this kind of batch operation.

Lightroom :: Can't Find IPTC Metadata After Aperture Export

Apr 24, 2013

I am exporting approximately 25,000 images from Aperture 2.1.4 and importing them into Lightroom 4.  I started working with my small projects of about 300 images to test.  From Aperture, I exported the Master files with the Sidecar (IPTC4.XMP) files.  [My masters are a mix of .jpgs and .NEF, and I read that the jpgs don't always carry the meta data through].  I successfully imported the master files into Lightroom and ran the "Read Metadata from File" command.  I also exported the keywords file from Aperture and imported those into Lightroom as well.

Prior to exporting, I edited one file in Aperture by entering "test caption", "test location", "test keyword", "test copyright" etc. into several of the IPTC fields.  These fields are NOT appearing in the equivalent Lightroom fields.  I checked the .XMP file (using text edit) and it does contain the correct "test values".  I am getting all of the EXIF metadata, but none of my custom values.

Lightroom :: IPTC Metadata - Copy And Paste Data Within One Picture

Nov 26, 2012

So here's the problem: I am working for a photo journalist/traveling photographer moving his 8tb database into Lightroom 4.Now, for whatever reason, he wants the ISPC-metadata headline, the title, and the caption to be same for each picture. What I mean by that is not simply giving every picture the same exact name, but rather have a picture with the headline "Machu Pichu during Sunset" also have the title ""Machu Pichu during Sunset" and the caption "Machu Pichu during Sunset". So far I've done copy and paste between those boxes (I usually only have a headline) for every single picture, but as you might imagine, with 8tb, this will drive you absolutely insane. What I'd like is to have is some sort of Metadata preset telling Lightroom to just take the headline and copy and paste it to title and caption. Is there any way that is possible? This would really save me tons of completely redundant work.
