I need to make nice, wispy smoke that spells out text. Imagine a campfire, with smoke rising into the sky and spelling put a message.
This one just has me plain stumped. I think it's impossible! _and it's burning me up! HA! I'm so punny

I know that the AJA Kona 3 card has 2 outputs. Can Smoke send one eye to one channel and the other eye to the other of the Kona 3 card? Dual Stream output is what I am really getting at.

It won't even see anything below zero in order for me to make a correction on it, everything seems to be clamped on import. I'm using ProRes HQ footage.

so far this is what i have here except in this pic, it looks like he's just standing in some smoke.... i want him to actually look like he IS the smoke (ie, smoke makes up he's body, he has transparency in between him, he doesnt look solid).
Can Smoke support the OFX architecture?

In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?

Whats the dealing with importing TWs to Smoke? I have a show that's 70% keyframed with timewarps and need a way other then baking the effect to bring it into Smoke. It's comming from FCP7 and we have Automatic Duck but neither the XMLs or AAF bring anything other then the first speed of the clip. Any way to retain the keyframes?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a PIP in a timeline with Axis. PIP is a easy thing so I made it of course.
But the problem is When I use multiple PIPs. There's no Global axis like in Action, so I couldn't control PIPs at once. I thought make a Gap effect with axis or Container would be work, but It didn't work as I thought.
Do I have to make a mask for PIP? Is there any way to move, rotate, scale them together easily? & Axis could have only one image? In animation view, there's a Global axis and a image axis.
Kind of at my wits end with this software. Decided to give it a proper test on a job involving some wire removal and a bit of 3D comping. Every day brings hourly crashes, corrupted sequences, black frame renders, inability to archive projects, on and on. It's like every shot on this project is a minefield of troubleshooting and trying to find workarounds just to get a render complete. I'm spending easily an extra 20 hours a week just trying to overcome problems with the software.
Now I've got a sequence that I literally spent 4 hours on and just trying to open it brings smoke to a hard crash. Trying to make a cfx clip of the sequence takes half an hour to save so I've only been doing that once a day.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA quick question re bookmarks. My normal workflow involves working from one project folder on our server where all the rushes, edl's, artwork etc all reside. I just soft imported the rushes and added a bookmark to that network folder. However when I enter the conform module I have no bookmarks in that menu. Could we make the bookmarks global so that whichever module I am in in smoke I can see the same bookmarks, or at least make it a preference option?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhy is there a difference between the text from the soft fx and the text in action? If you look at the attached picture, the 3 lines look slightly different although they shouldn't. The first line was written inside the soft fx.
The second line, with an ugly outline, is the 3D text, and although it's the same font, it looks thinner here.
And the third line, which I think looks a little too soft, is with AA turned on in action.
So why can't I achieve the same look in action, as in the text soft fx?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm inside cfx where at the end of my network , i attach resize and set bit depth to 10 bit. Then i create a cfx node. The cfx node now cannot be rendered. After finish rendering, it will be back to unrendered state. The project setting itself is set to 16 bit fp. If i set that resize using the same 16 bit , then cfx clip has no problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have composed a scene in action that contains 3d text with a reflection layer. I animated the reflection to keep the part of the image that I want to appear on the letters in view. Everything looks ok when I step through in action or click preview, but comes out wrong when I render.
It looks like there may be some sort of timing issue, so I've checked for slip and TW problems and found none. I've also checked for transitions on other axes that might cause a problem and see none. Is this a bug?
