If there is a way to tell Photoshop, and in a CMYK or RGB file, that I want to make all the 100% blacks in a grey scale layer a solid specified color, and all greys just percentages of that solid color? And to be able to do this without having to use spot channels or dial in CMYKs via Channel Mixer? In other words, a "one-click" method, or close to it.
View 9 RepliesI am trying to add a grey scale mask to a layer so I can alter some game files .But I must be missing something blindingly obvious. Here is how I create a mask in PSP6.
-First I duplicate the base layer.
-Then I adjust the saturation to -100%(grey). Then I adjust the lightness to +100%..This gives a grey scale image.
-I then increase the brightness by 25% and the contrast by 50%. This gives a grainy bright and high contrast grey scale image.
-I then create a mask and then add the mask to a blank layer.
This allows me to spray away to my hearts content and leaves the main detail on the original image untouched. By this method I can add mud effects to tank tracks in games and still see the original link details through the mud.
But I am having major issues trying to achieve this effect in gimp.At the moment this hurdle is stopping me getting to grips with gimp.
I need to change my greyscale color settings to CMYK black, where in CC do I find the profiles to load?

I have recently installed PS7 on my laptop and when creating a new project, the defaul is sent on grey for the color, when I set it to RGB or CMYK and want to choose a color, I get the standard color box with about 20 colors instead of the color pallet I used to get.
What is the setting I'm looking for and how to I set it as the default?
I've found a peculiar problem with grey scale conversion in Photoshop CS5.
The problem:
I have black and white photos in an RGB colour space. I can't use a black and white layer adjustment because there are no color channels in the image. I used the 'image > mode> greyscale' menu item to convert to greyscale, and in photoshop there appears to be no change to the greyscale values. However, when I place the image in inDesign, it is markedly different; blacks are pure black but greys are washed out.
I print the two images side by side (RGB and greyscale) and they come out identical (though darker than I expected). Is inDesign showing RGB or Greyscale differently on screen? I have the display settings at 'high quality'.
How do you do this?

I found some "frames" that will add various edges to the image (torn edge, lace, ect), but they are in grey scale and I'm not sure how, if I can, to use them in pdn. I'm just wanting to give a ragged or other style edge to my photos or backgrounds to use them for digital scrapbooking and framed photos.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIf I select a "New" document in CS5 I find that I am only able to paint or fill in in grey scale. This is new. In the Color options panel the grey scale slider is ticked and all other options are greyed out.
How do I remove the tick by the side of the grey scale slider and make the other options available for selection as normal. I note that if I open a previously opened document all options are available it just seems to be new blank documents.
I have just had to do a complete re-install of my CorelSuite X4 following the addition of a new hard-drive.
I now have the situation in Corel Photo-paint where -
1 I open a grey-scale image (.jpg).
2 I paste (as a new object) an RGB colour item (a previously created .cpt file) onto the grey-scale image.
3 I then "Convert to 16Bit grey-scale" in order to change the whole new image to grey-scale, but the pasted object is being automatically flattened into the image and I can no longer work on that object independently.
I never had this before, as I was always able to convert to grey-scale and the "pasted object" would remain with the mask outlined and still allow me to work on it.
I imported a photo into illustrator CC and I then live traced it and expanded it. When I select it the colour options are grey scale. I can change the option but if I click off the image the options go back to grey scale. The doc colour set up is cmyk. How do I get it to stay on a different option without having to keep switch it all the time?
View 4 Replies View Relatedinstead of showing the thumbnail of an image in my layers panel, I got a grey box for any layer that is in there. Normally I would see a mini-version of the graphic that I am editing.
Is this something that I did or touched that made this happen, if so, how do I reverse this?
I'm working in a multi layered CS5.1 Photoshop project (I did not create it). One of the adjustment layers in the project needs a layer masks, and when I create one it is not working properly. I make my selection that I want to mask off and create the layer mask it creates it with White and a 50% gray insted of black. Likewise when I alt click to create a layer mask it fills it in with black and 50% gray. The layer did have a 87% opacity to it so I thought this was causing the gray to happen, but when I turned the Opacity to 100% the mask was still being created with gray.
I use the fill tool to fill the gray with Black or White (Fill settings are opacity 100 and fill 100) it fills the mask more like my fill opacity is set to 50%. Likewise it does this for the pant brush as well. I have messed with every layer setting I can find including the layer mask panel and the adjustment layer panel, and nothing seem to work.
since Photoshop CS5 (Mac), there is always shown a grey bounding box around the content of the selected layer, when I move it. For CS5 there exists a plugin, that removes this terrible box, but it doesn't work anymore with CS6.

For example if I duplicate a channel to use as a selection or layer mask but it doesn't work well for some of the objects and some other channel does I'd like to be able to put them together.
I'm trying to add a color cast to a grey, contoured button shape (defined by a vector mask), by overlaying it with an adjustment layer with a solid green fill and setting the blend mode to "multiply."
The shape layer has transparent pixels around the perimeter, so I would not expect a "multiply" operation to result in visible green there. But it does. That's no good. I need to export this image to a PNG with the transparency intact.
I can see that the green adjustment layer has a "Color Fill 1 Mask" channel, but copying the shape layer and pasting it into that mask channel doesn't seem to work. The display shows a very thin outline of the vector shape, but I can't appear to do anything with it.

In my PS7.0 I have lost my greys...It always shows brown even when I enter #333333 or anything grey. If I transfer the color to Image ready it shows the color in grey like it should be seen.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently had to get a new computer and reinstall Photoshop, I also did the update. Now when I use my color picker outside of Photoshop, it only pulls up a grey color, not the actual color I am sampling.
It works fine within the Photoshop document but now when sampling outside of it. Was this the update that messed up this functionality? Or is there a setting I need to set. All my preferences are the same from my old to my new computer.

If I print in greyscale everything is fine, but if I have an image that has both color and B&W portions, the greys come out green (or brown depending on whether I print from CMYK or RGB). Is there any way to have a portion of an image in a color space and others in greyscale?
what I might try as far as the printer? If I print CMYK the greys come out really green but all the other colors are good. If I print RGB the greys come out browner (which is a little better), but other colors get muddy.
Is there any way to get a printer to stop trying to "interpret" greys as a color when in a color mode?
When I select a layer, it is highlighted in grey (in the layers palette) and I am unable to edit it. My current process for making a layer editable is as follows: Select layer (highlighted in grey)Double click layer (opens "Layer Styles" dialogue box)Close "Layer Styles" dialogue boxLayer is now highlighted in blue and can be edited. Does the image file need to be something else than RGB? I have tried other color and it does work. I have tried red and it will replace all of the grey&black, but .........

I also noticed that the default frame action buttons are orange. Is there a way to color code these action buttons myself? It would be nice to catagorize them by colors.

Is there a way to freeze a layer and not have it turn grey?
