Photoshop Elements :: How To Convert Old Catalogs From Another Machine
Oct 29, 2012
I have Ele10 preloaded on a new desktop and have copied my Ele 7 catalogs from an old XP machine. File>ccat> convert will browse to the old catalong folders but will not "select" them or convert them...just ignores me at that point. How do I proceed?
Also on D: is D:DataMy Catalog 7catalog.pse7db, D:DataMy Catalog 7 humbe.5.cache and D:DataMy Catalog 7itemData.mk4 with other 1KB files; these are pointed there using Elements 7 options.
The pc runs Elements 7 with all images tagged in Organizer.
D: is a separate physical 1TB drive. D: is backed up to a USB drive; this backup drive (500GB) is now almost full (it also backs up other machines drives) hence why I will use the current 1TB image drive as backup and retire/reuse the 500GB drive.
I now have a new 64 bit pc with its own 1TB drive, on which I would like to run Lightroom 4 with Elements 10 for additional editing. I would like to store the both Main Images currently on D: drive in C:UsersMeMy Pictures on the new machine. The 1TB drive from the old machine is now in a USB housing and will act as the onsite backup for all the images and image data and other machines drives.
I have all my images tagged in Elements 7. Can Lightroom read/use these tags?
If so what is the best way to get my images and their tags into C:UsersMeMy Pictures and Lightroom?
I've been trying since yesterday to complete the install of Lightroom 5 - upgrade from LR4.3. Each time it begins to convert one of my catalogs it simply stops progressing bout 1/2 way. I've waited overnight and tried two other catalogs. My drive has 80 GB free and I'm running 64-bit system with 16GB ram and 8 processors. LR4.3 has been running fine...
Got a new computer. Copied and upgraded Photoshop CS2 to CS5. I would like to give the old computer to a family member or friend. Will they be able to use the CS2 on the old machine? (an iMac 10.6) or is that the end of that CS2?
I want to transfer a catalog from a machine running PSE 5 (XP) to a new machine running PSE 11 (Win7 64 bit).
Is this posible and does the transfer/backup include the actual photos or just the relevant details? as I already have the photos copied to the new machine.
I recently reloaded my files from Time Machine, after having my had my hard drive replaced. Elements will not run, giving me error 150:30 and a message to the effect that my license is not working. Do I have to reload from disk?
I have just installed elements 11 on a windows 7 machine and whites are showing as cream, even in the colour pickers and swatches. My elements 8 works fine. how do I fix this?
I just downloaded and installed the trial versions of PSE 11 (Photoshop & Premier). I have been running PSE 10. I created several catalogs in PSE 10. When I go into the catalog management menu in PSE 11, none of the catalogs are listed. If I perform a restore, I have to grab the backup files. When I do that, there are no tages appearing.
I would expect that PSE 11 should know where previous catalogs have been placed with the previous version and automatically have them show up in the catalog management/selection screen.
I recently installed PSE 10 on a mac book running OS X 10.6.8
I have 2 issues with Organizer, but I guess both might be linked:
1) I am not able to create more than one catalog. Or let's say I can, but no way I can select them afterwards. Only the last created one gets opened for imports. If I create a new catalogue, I cannot re-open the old one. It is not even listed as being available despite it is well present on the disk (I checked). Since the available catalogs are not present, no way I can try to use 'optimization' ot 'repair' features.
2) When organizer is started, it starts consuming huge CPU cycles, between 30 - 90%...
This looks to me like a bug, but since I cannot even select created catalogs
I have 2 Catalogs. There is nothing on my Organizer screen to allow me to switch between them.No menu bar anywhere--Menu bar used to be at the top of the screen.
I have a PSE10 photo catalog and video catalog on my Win'7 64-bit PC. The catalog files are on my C drive (default location) and the media files are on a different internal "D" drive.
Each catalog currently resides in its own folder in the default location on C drive, and each catalog file is named "catalog.pse10db". It is curious that each file is identically named; I didn't do that, PSE did.
I want to move the photo catalog and video catalog to the internal "D" drive so that when I backup the D drive, the catalogs and media files are all backed up together.
How do I move my catalogs from the default location to a different location? I have read the "Backup and Restore Catalogs to New computer" info and think it may apply here, but I want to be sure before I try anything.
In ##backed up and restoring a PSE6 catalogue from an XP based PC to my Vista based laptop I chose the Restore to New Location / Maintain Existing Folder Structure option and both the catalogue files and the picture files were successfully created in my main Pictures folder. The new catalogue was recognised in PSE6 and all files and thumbnails seemed to be connected. However, in retaining the original folder structure I had inadvertently created a lot of unwanted subfolders from the old XP address and the cataloguing info was not in the default /Program Data location where my other catalogues reside. I therefore decided to first move the cataloguing files, and tried to use the Catalogue / Move command for the purpose, thinking, erroneously as it turned out, that this would move only the cataloguing files, and I could then eliminate the unwanted subfolders in my picture file structure by a subsequent drag and drop approach in PSE6.
Catalogue / Move process as to a destination folder for the move, as it never asked, but it seems as though both cataloguing and picture files were moved by the command to the Vista default /Program Data location. I'm not sure whether I asked to make the catalogue available to all users or just myself when asked, but think it was probably the latter. The move resulted in all of the thumbnails in the catalogue becoming disconnected from the picture files, and I then carried out a Reconnect All process which has worked for all but a handful of files.
The problem is that whilst I can see the picture folders I've moved in the Folder View within PS6, and most seem connected to the catalogue thumbnails, I cannot find them, or indeed the /Program Data folder that they sirt inside, by searching outside of PS6. It is as if they don't exist, or are hidden from Windows Explorer. All of the old picture folders have also disappeared when I look at the Folders View within PS6, except for those that contained the few picture files that are now disconnected (and these are greyed out). I could try to drag and drop the new folders back to Pictures within PS6, or try to delete the catalogue and files entirely, and begin the restore process again.
I migrated from PSE8 to PSE11 with 4 catalogs. PSE 11 works okay with 3 catalogs while crashing with the 4th one.
Symptoms:
- Whe starting Organizer with the catalog it starts indexing of person-data. This stops at 0%. PSE does not respond any more (kept it for 3 hours) and needs to be terminated via Task Manager.
- When starting Organizer with Shift pressed, I can repair and optimize the catalog. When indexing similarity data (German: "Visuelle Ähnlichkeitsdaten erneut indizieren"), Organizer crashes after 100% - crash means: Organizer disapears from desktop and tasklist.
I also tried to repair and optimize the catalog in PSE8 beforehand. This works fine.
I'm a layman in using PSE (version 8). I've arranged all my photos in sevaral catalogs and I've build several albums. Now I have to move over all this to a new PC, also running a newer version of PSE (10 or 11). On that PC the main folder in which al my pictures reside will probably be on a different drive.
I have bought a new PC. On my old PC I have PSE 10 with three catalogs. To move these catalogs (with several thousands of photos), I have followed the instructions in the help page: [URL] ......
So, I made backups of all three catalogs to an external disc. I then connected the external disc to the new PC and started to restore the first catalog. That went fine.
Then I restored the second catalog. That also went fine. But then I discovered that the first catalog had disappeared.... I expected that in the menu where you can switch catalog, both catalogs would be shown. But it only showed the last catalog that I restored.
To make sure, I tried to restore the first catalog again. Again that went fine. But now only this catalog is there, and the other one is disappeared again.
How do you migrate MULTIPLE catalogs from one PC to another PC?
I do not know whether it is relevant: The old PC is running Windows 7, the new PC is running Windows 8.1.
I'm new to PS 11. In error, I created a catalogue with several files. I then created a second catalogue with several files. I now find that I was wrong, and I now would like to merge these two different catalogues into a single catalogue without loosing my previous work.
Transported a 350 Gb catalog from PC to an Imac. New files was made with new names in my external hard drive. I can't believe that I must have another 350-400 Gb on my hard drive. Have tried transport or delete the backup but my mac don't allow me to do that. All installation worked perfectly with all 31,000 tagged photos. How can I remove the doublet pictures?
I am having PSE 11 "stop working " when launched. Seems to be related to corrupt catalogs. If I delete the catalog, then I am able to open up the Organizer. However, when I build a new catalog, it oftens crashes. I have disabled all the analyzer functions but keeps recurring. I have been successful in building a small catalog consisting of approximately 400 JPGs. However, larger catalogs aren't successful.
I upgraded to Windows 8 from Vista, and my PSE 7 disappeared. I have loaded PSE 11 on my computer, and now I want to convert the original catalog for use in my current PSE version. However, I cannot find the catalog on my hard drive.
I have several overlapping catalogs in my elements 10. The largest is coordinated with the online backup (which is due to be terminated). It has over 400 missing images that cannot be reconnected via the online backup. Some of the wayward images may be in one of the other catalogs or a download to the external hard drive from the online backup (done last year).
1. How can I merge the several catalogs, and should I? 2. How do I search the the file in the external hard drive? I.e., how do I designate this file in the "browse" dialogue box for where to reconnect? I can navigate to it, but then what?
I have 26,000 images on an external drive (currently designated drive M), almost all tagged and/or rated and indexed in two PSE 11 catalogs on the main PC hard drive. I am just about to replace my PC. I assume that when I connect my external drive to the new PC, it is unlikely to be Drive M. How do I maintain access through the catalogs with all the stored information?
