Photoshop Elements :: Adding Transparent Region Below Image
Dec 19, 2013
I have a photo onto which I have superimposed another image, in a separate layer. That separate image was precisely drawn using the magic wand. Is there any way I can add some transparent area below that image?
My application is I am creating a GIF movie in which that image will be moved around on the main image like a sprite / puppet.I need the section of the image that I place the mouse on to control movement to be invisible to the part of the photo that is being turned into a GIF/video. Effectively, I am looking to build a "puppet" that I can control outside of the formal stage area, and the extension to the image is my means of controlling how the sprite is moved around.

I have a solid gray filled region that is set to be transparent that is not being transparent. We are trying to put a gray tone over the existing area of the plan. what is weird is that I did the exact same thing to another view & it works perfectly with the region in the background & all the wals & doors showing up correctly. I can't figure out what is different between one view & another.
I've tried changing the filled region to be "moved to back" but nothing changes. if I override the graphics of the element & change it to be transparent the it goes away all together.

I have a Floor Plan View and it was modeled up everything good displays and prints correctly (drawing 2 on the attached pdf) . I have another Floor Plan View which was create via duplicating the first one - therefore the majority of the drawing is the same. However, the filled region through the center of the duplicated view is obscuring the other modeled objects when it is printed.
The region is set to transparent (as can be seen when it is viewed on screen) the filled region has been sent to back, and the other objects are all on exactly the same layers in both documents (as they are identical apart from other noting which has nothing to do with the actual filled region).
why the filled region would be obscuring the objects in one drawing and not the other? The only way I can find to get the objects to print which are "covered" by the filled region is to turn the region off, which defeats the purpose as it is there for a reason? This happens with hard copy printing and also to pdf. Printer is set to raster printing .

I need to cut out an image from a transparent background. Is there a way to do that with Photoshop Elements 10?
In other words, I have an image (say a face) that is on a rectangular background that is transparent. I need to cut away all the transparent area so there is NO background, just the face, and an irregular shaped image. Is that possible with Photoshop?
This is for inserting the image in another program (Sketch Up) which does not always allow transparency.

This should be easy -
The end result I want is this:
a png which is mostly black (or any colour) but with a defined shape in it which is transparent.
I have the shape. I select it. I seem to be able to make a mask from this (a selection which I can copy and move about). But what I can't figure out how is how to create a new image which is filled except for this masked area which is transparent

I am using Elements 6.0. I want to fade my image to white on the right side of the image. That way I can add text there in the plain white space. I've seen several ways to do this, but none seem to work on 6.0. using 6.0 . I tried a few ways explained on higher versions but I can get it to work.

I recently started using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, and it looks really great, but I cannot figure out how to make certain parts of an image transparent. I pasted an image in, and there is white around the sides, and I wanted to get rid of them, by making them transparent. How I would be able to do that

I often use Paint.NET while creating documentation for users of various computer applications, mainly working with screenshots. For awhile I've thought that instead of simply circling a spot on the image and labelling it with an arrow, it would might better to 'pull' that section of the image up, so that it appears larger and in-front of the rest of the image.
I created a crude mock-up of what I'm trying to accomplish:

what I have been doing to work with transparency: bring up GIMP to add an alpha channel and set part of an image to transparent. Save and use in Paint.net.Today, for example, I wanted to create a M + W logo, and the result looked like this:I set the font to Engravers MT, put a red W on an image.Selected "All", copied to clipboard, then pasted to a new image.Vertically flipped the new image, making it an M, changed color to blue using Recolor tool. Saved it as PNG, closed image.Started GIMP, opened the blue M image. On GIMP menu, selected Layer --> Transparency --> Add Alpha ChannelUsed Fuzzy Select Tool to select the area outside the blue MHit delete key to remove color of fuzzy selection (converting it to transparent)Save image as PNG and exit GIMP.Back in Paint.net, open the M image.Select All of Image, copy to clipboard.Paste into New Layer of W image.Adjust position of this transparent selection layer to achieve desired resutl as above.Save the completed image.I find GIMP to be very hard to work with, and prefer working with Paint.net. It would be so nice to be able to create an alpha channel and make a transparent area of an image inside of Paint.net.

The attached file shows the front castle of a ship with two ranges of windows on its white wall. I am trying to print this image with a laser printer on a transparent film while keeping the original white of the wall, letting only the windows inside their black frame transparent (the first two window frames of the upper row on starboard have been filled with a greyish tone merely as an experiment) - as if that transparent were projected on a dark surface rather than on a white one.
since the addition of all colours (i.e. 255) is equal to white and therefore to transparency (or to the absence of colours), and since transparency will show as, well, transparency when printed on a transparent film, how can white - in this case the white background of the wall - still be added to the transparent film while keeping only the windows inside their frame transparent?
All my attempts with a variety of painting tools (including those of Mypaint) and profiles failed. Should this be done with two different layers instead?

I have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.
I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).
Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.
So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).
I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).
And then my problem:
I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).
Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.
Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.

I was just wondering as to whether its possible to keep the checkered base which you get when you remove part of an image or have it transparent to stay in the created image.
I am sure you all know this.
Here is the YouTube background which I have created and wondering if I am able to keep the checkered base or whatever in the image after I have saved it rather than print screening and pasting it back like a jigsaw puzzle.

I used to be able to do this but have forgotten how. I would like to remove the bg from a small image, ie make it's bg transparent, and place that small image on top of a large image, a banner. Not sure what I am doing wrong but when I place the small image on the large one the entire image is transparent, not just the bg.

I have a picture of my car that I cut out of a picture, pasted it into a new image with the 'transparent background' option. The windows and some of the space in between the wheels are transparent as well. I applied a drop shadow to the car to give it a little depth,
I'm using Photoshop 6, I use the save as web image thing, and I can't get a proper setting for a .gif export (they all look like crap, the drop shadow defaults to a flat black color). So I tried a PNG 24, and it keeps the drop shadow looking nice, but it adds a background color in place of the transparency.

How can I create an image with a transparent background? I am creating a project that I wanted to save as a transparent image (that is the background, not the image itself.). However, no matter what I saved it as, it would force a background on me.
It was being created for my e-mail program. The program has stationary backgrounds on the e-mails I create, so the background would always be changing. That is why I wanted the image to be transparent so that it could blend into any background.

I'm making an image that I want to have 5 different scales of. The scales are: 128x128, 64x64, 48x48, 32x32, 16x16. You guessed it, I'm making a favicon with multiple layers.
I create a canvas size 128x128 to start. Then I add my image to the canvas. I want the image to be transparent, so I remove the background by moving it up to layer 0 and deleting it. Now I hit (CTR + J) to create a copy of this layer to resize to a 64x64. The problem I have is when I copy the image it only copies the image and not the entire layer canvas size.the logo is about 126x90 so that’s what it copies. I need to make this image the entire 128x128, without losing transparency. Essentially what I am asking is can I add the extra 1 px to the width and 38 px to the height without actually changing the visual of the logo?
