Photoshop Elements :: Crop Tool Makes Picture Disappear?
Jul 30, 2013Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 for MAC.
When I select content using the crop tool then hit enter (or the green checkmark) the picture just disappears. This happened all of a sudden a few days ago. I can do COMMAND Z to undo and the picture reappears. But every time I crop the picture disappears and the layer thumbnail just turns brown.

Jul 1, 2013I am a labtech at a community college and look after 48 mac pros in which the students use the entire creative suite. (I only mention this becuase any answers need to consider variations in system settings or photoshop settings. college students get into everything!)
But the issue is when you select the crop tool and enter a custom constraint and crop
The image size is sometimes a full 2 inches off of what you set as a crop?! I havn't run into this before
[I do know you can use the drop down box and use {size and resolution} but I want to know why it doesnt work under custom and unconstrained]

Sometime it may take even 15 times to turn on/off until resolved.

It crops the image though it does not straighten it out. In previous versions of Photoshop it use to crop and straighten the image by cropping it. How do you now use the Crop tool to straighten an image?

May 6, 2012In Photoshop CS6, the moment you select the Crop Tool, a "cropping bounding box" appears instantly over the image. This didn't happen in CS5. In CS5 I would be able to click and start dragging the Crop Tool 'outside' the image and then drag into it so that my "cropping bounding box" (don't know what to call it) would snap to the edges of the image.
In CS6, since this box is automatically there already over the entire image, clicking outside the image invokes some unwanted rotation action.

Feb 26, 2013In the old days, one could just use the crop tool and, while drawing crop lines, check the perspective box if you found that you needed to change the perspective. With CS6 if you start with the crop tool, and find you want to change the perspective, you have to change tools to the new perspective crop tool. In the process, you have to tell the newly opened dialog box that you don't want to crop, to get to the perspective tool, which now has reset to its defaults. You've lost your cropping and you have to start over.

Feb 6, 2012I've got a PC with 12 GB of memory, 9 allocated to PS CS5.A Radeon 5970 video card with 2GB on-board memory.... although CS5 might only accept 1GB.I open 30 files about 200K each, which would put total usage around 6 MB total... let's say 7MB to add a little buffer.
I could process the first 10-12 files. I was just cropping each image to what I needed to do. Nothing was standard, so an action or some other automated process was not a viable option.After each crop, I would save the image and close it out.
About the 13-14 image, as I was starting to crop, the image would just disappear completely so I couldn't crop the image at all.All video drivers and Adobe updates are installed.I could close the program and restart it, and it worked fine. But I shouldn't have to do that.

Oct 16, 2013I have been using elemnts 10 for some months now, about two weeks ago the croped image would disapear. Today I have just deleted the programme and reinstalled it and the first thing was to test it so opened an image and used the crop tool and again it just disapears,the inter phase screen just goes blank. All other funtions seem to be ok, I run win XP I thought that the reinstall would cure but no how can this be is it a fault with the programme? I have been using Elements since version 4, this is the first time I have had such a problem.

Make a selection --> Paste as new Image --> Make a Selection but then "accidentally" Move the selection, Choose the crop tool, Snap crop rectangle to current selection --> Apply.
My image now disappears: all gone ... so UNDO!
My scenario: PSP X3 Windows 7, lots of memory.
Trying to separate & cleanup many old photos scanned several at a time at 300x300 on an 8.5"x11" size scanner. So I select, copy, paste as new image for each photo.

First because you can’t crop by pixels, only by proportion. Then because the save-to-web feature seems to result in a massive gif file, not a small jpg.
