Photoshop :: Does Transform Alter Layer Resolution

Jul 29, 2008

If I take a layer and transform it to 1/4 of the image size and later transform the layer back to 100% of the image size...

has any of the image resolution been lost?

GIMP :: Transform A Layer Without Moving Its Layer Mask?

Dec 14, 2012

Long time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.

Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?

GIMP :: Transform Layer By Manipulating The Layer Itself

Feb 1, 2014

I would like to know if there is a way I can transform a layer by manipulating the layer itself.

For instance, I can select Layer-->Transform-->ArbitraryRotation, and then use the mouse directly on the layer, giving me a "realtime" vies of the rotation.

Is there any way to do this with something like the "Scale Layer" function, so I could transform a layer directly, while seeing in realtime the difference the scaling makes?

Photoshop :: How To Transform A Mask On Shape Layer (CS6)

Aug 8, 2012

I've unlinked the layer mask from the shape layer, and made sure the layer mask thumbnail is selected in the layers palette.

If I do a cmd-t on OSX to transform, Photoshop (CS6) selects the shape layer path to transform instead of the mask layer, even though the mask thumbnail is still selected and even if I have a marque selection. Is this a bug?

Photoshop :: Transform Box - Cannot Click And Edit Layer

Jun 17, 2012

The problem I am having is that every single file I open looks like this. Once I click transform (which I have to) the layer no longer allows me to click and edit the layer. I like to re-size my images in relation to the multiple images I place on a document. My previous version of photoshop did not create a transform box with each new file. How can I adjust photoshop so that it doesn't do this. I am using CS5 on a PC.

Photoshop :: Cannot See Selection As Transform / Scale Layer?

Apr 28, 2013

I selected a layer in order to scale it. When I click the link between height and width and then change the percentage up or down the object I'm trying to scale simply disappears. I can see the edges and the transform tool 'handles' but the layer is not there. I've never had an issue in any other version of Photoshop. What the heck is going on?

Doesn't matter whether I use the percentage tool in the upper palette of Photoshop or just shift and drag to scale. The scaling object becomes invisible.

Photoshop :: Free Transform Duplicates Layer

Apr 6, 2007

I use Photoshop CS1.

Often, when I right click and select "Free Transform" and start editing my transformation, Photoshop decides to duplicate the layer. This leaves a layer beneath the layer that I am working on and if I am trying to position the transformation over a layer below that, obviously this is impossible, as the layer is hidden.

Photoshop :: How To Transform Layer Object And Path At Same Time

Nov 20, 2012

I would really like to know if there is any way I can manage to to transform both a layer object and a path at the same time....or if there is any workaround to achieve this.

In a nutshell, say for example I spend a VERY long time creating an intricate path around a very detailed object, and then at the very end notice just how crooked and out of perspective it is, and would like to straighten it.

Of course I could transform and correct the object, and then carefully transform the path - but it just won't be exact, and I will have to spend a long time adjusting the path and making SURE it is perfect.

Isn't there any way I could get to transform them together?

Usually of course I do all the correction to straighten and correct perspective beforehand, but in some instances after I am done creating the path I then notice that the image could have used further adjustments.

Photoshop :: How To Stop SKEW Transform From Snapping To Layer Edges

Oct 18, 2013

I have supposedly disabled all the "snap" features in Photoshop, however, whenever I try to make minute transforms with the skew tool it always "snaps" (often closing a huge gap) to either it's previous vector, or one of the other points.

How do I stop this before I hit my head on the desk repeatedly in frustration?

Ctrl, etc., like with the move tool, does nothing differently.

Photoshop :: Action Records Layer Transform In Percentage NOT Pixels?

Apr 11, 2012

I am trying to create an action that will work with some product images. Every image document I make is the same size (1000 x 1000px). The layer that I paste onto that document will always vary in size. I like my product images to all have the exact same margin. So I always use the transform command to specify that the width of any layer should be exactly 930px. This gives me exactly the same margin on my 1000 x 1000px document every time, regardless of the original layer size. I want to create an action for this to speed up the process but when I press record I hit a stumbling block.

In reality, I choose transform and set width to 930px.

Photoshop records me choosing transform then setting the width to 97% (or whatever).Percentages are useless to me as my original layers vary radically in size. I need to transform by pixels.why photoshop is recording my transform by percentage and not the pixels that I actually use?

Photoshop :: Pen Tool - Filled Path / Layer And Transform But Does Not Give Enough Adjustment?

Mar 23, 2012

The Pen Tool is my favorite / go to selection tool. But can it do the following...I've made a path and converted it to a selection, then filled the area with a color or texture (on it's own layer).

Now I find that I need to adjust (fine tune) the shape I've created / filled with color or texture to better fit how / where it's being used. Is is possible to invoke the path handles and get it to adjust the filled area as you move / adjust the path. (This is not a shape, not using the shape tool.)

I can select the filled path / layer and free transform but that does not give me a fine enough adjustment.Puppet Warp doesn't really fit the bill eitherA good example of what I want to achieve is similar to when you put type on a path. When you adjust the path the type moves to conform to the changes in the path. I want to do the same thing with the area I filled using the path.

GIMP :: How To Transform A Layer

Dec 16, 2011

I'm working on a project with two layers: (1) a photograph, and (2) a line drawing. The line drawing provides the accurate shape, and I need to stretch the photograph to fit the line drawing fairly precisely. The line drawing is the top layer, and I've already added an alpha layer to it so that I can see the photograph through it. Now I need to rotate, scale, and stretch the photograph to fit. Two questions:

--Does Gimp have a tool akin to P$hop's "free transform," which allows you to rotate, scale, and stretch in a single tool before committing the changes?

--Whenever I start using the rotate or perspective tools, the photograph appears on top (even though it's the bottom layer) and I can no longer see the line drawing. Obviously, this makes it nigh impossible to get an accurate fit. Is there a way of preventing this from happening, so that I can see the transparent top layer even while I'm working on the bottom layer?

Photoshop :: Layer Via Copy / Free Transform / Multiple Layers Doesn't Work

May 27, 2012

I am using Adobe Photoshop CS6, latest version as of 05/25/12.I have 19 layers, each has a 1200x1200px texture. These are of course overlapped, so setting them all to visible will only show the top layer.

All layers are rasterized, and contain 1200x1200px:

1) I select all 19 layers using shift+click, all are highlighted (in the layer pane).

2) I select a region using the selection tool, in this case a rectangular region that is 172px high and 35px wide.

3) I right click the selection, and then select: layer via copy. (Note, Layer via cut is disabled for some reason)

4) *problem* It creates 19 new layers with the full image from the selected layers and not the selection which is what I wanted to place in the new layers.

5) *problem* when I right click the selection and select "Free Transform", the transform box surrounds the entire canvas and not the selection.

6) *problem* when I skew, it skews the entire image and not just the selection.

7) *problem* Previously, I have been able to select a layer from the layer pane, go to image menu, select adjustments, brightness/contrast, and adjust the brightness/contrast for just that layer. Now it wont let me.

8) *related problem* If I have 3 layers (background, 1, and 2) on a 1200x1200 canvas, with the image in layer 1 being 150px, and the image in layer 2 being 150x, each rasterized, and then stack the images on 1 and 2 over eachother, then select both layers, then select a region inside the stacked images, then select free transform, the free transform selection embodies all pixels inside the canvas (not the entire canvas this time) and performs the transform on these pixels and not the original selection.

If I do it making all the layers visible as well as selected, it behaves the same. What appears to be happening is Photoshop is ignoring the selection and for some reason is using a pixel region (or if pixels cover the entire canvas, the whole image) when performing actions intended for the selection.

What's strange is when I made these textures, I started out with 19 150x150 pictures, I set the canvas size to 1200x1200, selected all the layers in the layer pane, selected the 150x150 image in the middle, and was able to move all 19 textures to the top right corner, able to switch to transform on all 19 pictures, able to rotate 180 degrees all 19 pictures, was able to flip horizontal all 19 pictures, then able to copy all 19 pictures to new layers, move the 19 pictures all at the same time to the right 150 pixels, rinse and repeat, to eventually come out with 19 1200x1200 textures tiled from the 150px pictures. In other words, I did exactly what I am attempting to do with the 1200x1200 pictures with the 150x150 pixtures and it worked like a champ.

The end goal of course is to take a selection of all 19 of the 1200x1200 pictures, transform, then skew that image to make a collage of images applied to an added background. Performing this on all 19 textures and getting the same exact skew, etc would take days considering I need to do about 15 of different portions of the tile.

Photoshop :: Reference Point Location Jumps To Cursor When Moving Active Transform Layer?

Aug 1, 2013

I have a layer I'm resizing and is currently in Transform. When I beging to drag the layer to position while it is in resize the center reference point will jump to my mouse causing me to move the reference point outside of the tranform layer. Normally I would have to click on the reference point and drag it intentionally or hold CTRL and click in the transformed layer to set a reference point, but it since CS6 is had still remainded in CC.

This happens when I transform the layer (Ctrl+T) and then grab the layer to move. I have to put the reference point back to center via mouse or by the reference point on the menu bar up top. Then I can go back and drag my later where I need it to finish my transform.

Photoshop Elements :: Movable Elements Of Layer - Option Free Transform

Aug 28, 2012

Description of the task: I want to create a tool which is able to visualize the positions of pieces on a game board. At the moment I'm using Photoshop Elements 7. I think the following procedure would be appropriate:

2 layers, the basic layer would show the game board and the images of the pieces would be on the second layer. If I try to do that with Photoshop Elements 7 then each time when I insert an image of a piece a new layer is created. I don't need a layer per figure. Yes, one could reduce a layer afterwards. But it's not so comfortable this way.

In addition the images of the pieces should be movable on the game board. There is the option "free transform" in Photoshop Elements 7 but only one element (one piece) is movable afterwards. All the inserted elements should be movable.

So my question: Is it feasible within Photoshop Elements 7? If not, which version of Photoshop Elements would be adequate or which software do I need?

Photoshop :: Transform Applied To Smart Object Fails To Transform Attached Smart Filters Mask

Aug 9, 2012

Ps CS6
OSX 10.6.8

Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.

I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu.  A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.

A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.

In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.

I realize that I wont be able to simply press a buttons a BAM I have a game with twice the graphics. I know I'll have to do some altering and touch up but I'm hoping for some input on how to do this. Here, I'll upload an example.
