Photoshop :: Document Sizes And JPEG Compression / Quality?

Sep 20, 2012

In relation to Photoshop, in the status bar at the bottom it displays what it calls “document sizes”. How to clarify can this be used to determin the quality of a jpeg file ?

For example if I open up a jpeg with no compression (file size on disk is 4.57mb) it displays Doc:34.5M/34.5M however if I open the same file with compression set at 5 (file size on disk is 748kb) and ‘document size’ doesn’t change.  How does the document size relate to jpeg compression etc...?

Photoshop :: Zip Jpeg Files For Compression

One of my clients wants their files sent securely on DVD. One suggestion was to ZIP the jpegs and then appy the password option.

Has anyone done this? As it is really for security I would save at minimum compression.

But Does it affect the image quality?

Is there a better solution for secure delivery?

Photoshop :: Optimize JPG Image Size Reduction By Reduced Compression Quality And Pixels

Feb 28, 2013

I have many images of slides scanned at high res (4800 DPI, maximum pixels 5214x3592).   Although I will be saving these as loss less TIFs, I also wish to make JPGs from them that I wish to be just less than 5 MB in file size.  Aside from cropping, I know I can achieve such a reduction of JPG file size by a combination of saving to lower quality JPG compression or reducing image size.  My question is, what is theoretically or practically better, achieving this mostly by reducing image total pixels or by reducing  JPG compression quality.

Photoshop :: Saving CMYK PDFs From CC With JPEG High Compression

Jul 29, 2013

When I save a PDF file in Photoshop CC in CMYK color with JPEG compression (quality = high), it will save without any errors. However, when I open the file in Acrobat, I get an "Out of Memory" pop up error. I press Ok, and the document is just displayed as a blank white image.

I'm using Win7 64-bit, Photoshop CC 64-bit. Plenty of memory (24GB) and allocated RAM in preferences, and I've done some troubleshooting that leads me to believe the error is not due to system memory, but rather a specific bug in the software. I have Photoshop CS6 on the same machine, and if I open the PSD, save as PDF with the above settings, everything is fine when I open it using Acrobat. This seems to just be for Photoshop CC, not CS6.

Here is the troubleshooting I've done so far:
PDF format, RGB color, any other settings --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, no compression --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [medium] --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [high] --> Acrobat can NOT open the file because it encounters the "out of memory" error.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [maximum] --> Acrobat can open the file.

Paint Shop Pro :: X4 - JPEG Compression Too High?

Sep 12, 2011

The PSP X4 that I have compresses jpegs to an extreme amount even when set on compression factor 1. (a 4000 kb jpeg gets compressed to 1900kb. The previous versions would not change the compression when you open a file and just save it without changes. This one cuts the file size in more than half.

I really like some of the new layout and features, however my clients won't accept a jpeg that is compressed that much. Any other setting I need to change to stop this?

Photoshop :: Document Sizes Of A Layer?

Apr 2, 2013

I have an image with five layers and I need to know the width of all five layers so I know what sizes to put them at on the web as a picture banner (I have a limited width space).

Is there an option that lets you find out the width and height of a selected layer? I know of tricks to do this, like copying it and making a new image and checking the size there, but I want to know if there is a way to do this without creating a new image and just inside your own image your working on.

Paint Shop Pro :: JPEG Compression - What Has Changed To Make File Size Larger

Nov 27, 2011

I'm running PSPX3. the effect of no compression (or compression factor = 1) on saving files. I've got a JPEG image file straight from my camera that's approximately 4.1MB in size. If I do nothing else but "Save As" with a compression factor of 1, the new file size is approximately 50% larger, or 6.2MB. What has changed to make the file size larger? Both images are still 72DPI, 3648X2736px. I can't image that I have done anything to "improve" image quality, so why did the file size increase?

Illustrator :: Custom Predefined Document Sizes?

Is it possible to create AND save predefined document sizes instead of the standard US-letter, US-legal, A4, A3…? And DELETE these for video and screen sizes, ect., which I don`t need? I need my own standard sizes (print) for a daily working basis like business cards -> 85x55, postcard ->... A4). So that I don`t have to type the measures again and again manually within a new document or existing artwork. I normally combine all printproduct (drawingareas) for a client in ONE AI file.

Photoshop :: Save JPEG At Quality 10 Vs 12?

Mar 4, 2013

I am new to photoshop and am curious to see what quality setting others use when saving photos as jpeg The size difference between saving at 10 and 12 is almost 3 times the size, I see no quality loss when saving at quality 10.

I have some photos that are original size of around 5mb, after editing the photos saving at quality 10 gives a file size of around 5mb while quality 12 a file size of around 12mb-15mb.

Photoshop :: JPEG Quality VS Size

Dec 9, 2002

I'm in the process of cropping 5000 family pictures. They were all scanned on a flatbed with about 4 pictures per scan. I've realized that the cropped pictures are much larger in size than their original counterparts.

For example 45 of the original scans are 27MB in size, while those same pictures cropped (157 of them) are 156MB in size.

My action automatically saves the images at the maximum JPEG quality of 12. I'm wondering what the lowest i can lower the quality to is, while preserving the original scan quality of 300DPI?

Photoshop :: JPEG Quality Options For Print

I have been told that when sending my JPEGS to my PRO lab that I can save them with a JPEG image quality of 10 instead of the maximum of 12. They say that there is no difference in the 10 versus the 12 in print quality. Is this true or are they just telling me this to save capacity and space on their server? The bulk of my print sizes are in the range from 4x6 to 8x10. Why are there 12 quality options to choose from? What are the differences from low, medium, high and maximum?

Photoshop :: JPEG Image Quality Not Working Good?

Mar 20, 2012

when saving an image as a JPEG I would click "Save As", select my folder and the Image Quality dialog box would pop up and I would then select 12/Maximum as the image quailty and hit "OK".  Thereafter, every time I saved an image, Photoshop applied the same settings as the previous save i.e., 12/Maximum was pre-selected and I would just hit OK and move to my next image.

However, since yesterday Photoshop is no longer pre applying the last setting used and is defaulting to quality 8/High every time.  Si everytime I save, I am now having to slide the slider to 12 which is kind of interrupting my work flow.

I have tried delete my preferences settings in the hope that this glitch would be fixed by resetting the program, but the problem persists.

Photoshop :: Best Settings To Convert RAW Into High Quality JPEG

Feb 20, 2013

I am a little bit lost when reading discussions regarding the best way to have photos accepted by Istockphoto. They are extremely demanding about the quality of the pictures and they accept zero artifacts for example.

I read that any corrections made of a RAW picture in Lightroom 4 must be very minimal (almost no correction for saturation, vibrace, exposure,  and sharpening, noise etc.).

In this case it would mean that Lightroom is of no use and whay not use directly Photoshop CS6 to convert the RAW photo into a high quality JPEG. If this is true, what are the best settings in CS6 to convert a RAW photo into a JPEG format ?
