Â
Just out of curiosity, why is the "my catalog file" which PSE references on the local drive so much smaller a full backup of the catalog to an external drive?
LR 5 shows them as 16mb files. PS CC shows them as 91mb files. Finder shows one as 95mb and the other as 234mb.
Â
I'm pretty new to LR and have been doing LR editing and then using NIK plugins or Perfect Photo Suite and sometimes PS, always saving them back to LR and printing in LR. Often I wind up with 3 or 4 files. Part of this is because after printing , I export the file to my "printed" folder which allows me to easily find all I feel were good enough to actually print at some later date. I'm sure some of this is that I still am not completely trusting LR because I'm still surprised with things like this from time to time... I'll get there.
Â
But how can I figure out why these file sizes are so disparate?
In lighroom 4 my image shows as being 9.9 MP. In mac finder it shows as being 59.2 MP.

The difference in document size between PS6 and Bridge 6. After the final editing, the picture (PSD) size will be say 85 MB in PS6. However, viewing the same picture in Bridge, or Windows Explorer, the size will be 150 MB.
Â
I should also mention that the pictures were passed through LR4, then on to PS.
I've resized a photo in Image Size but when opening Canvas Size, the dimensions have changed slightly. Why?
To get the printed size I set in Image Size, do I have to alter the canvas size or do I not need to bother with it?
If I open a JPEG file of say 75kb, make some modifications and save at max. resolution (to avoid as much degradation as possible) it ends up 225kb. Question how would I retain the original 75kb? Why would max. add kb if there are only 75kb to begin with? I would assume the max. would leave it as close to the original as possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to using Tool Palettes. I have created a folder on my C: drive which contains all my tool palettes. Right now, I get the symbol of a circle with a line drawn through it and cannot use my tool palettes.
In the Options tab, I noticed that there are the "Tool Palettes File Locations" and also "Authoring Palette File Locations". What is the difference between the two? Do I need to do something to both so I can use my tool palettes without difficulty?
I wanted to know what the difference between .JPEG and .JPG were. I found this link:
[URL].......
Basically they are the same extension and on older computers they could not hold more than a 3 character abbreviated file extension.
But, I want know, what other extensions are relative to Gimp, or what and why is .xcf, .png, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, the extensions always used? Are there others? What is the relevance to .xcf, and the plug ins are all saved as .scm, .gbr, etc. That part makes sense, but I have a plug in for G'MIC with a strange extension (.par2) and I cannot install it.
I'm using LR4.1 on OSX 10.6.8. I convert my NEFs to DNGs at import, do my edits in LR. Most of the time when I want to create output it's for screen use. I use "Export" and produce JPGs.
Â
But when I'm preparing files for printing at the lab, I use the Print module, and Print to File, because I like to create a JPG where the image size is smaller than the paper size, for framing purposes. For example, I use the Print module to output a JPG where the "cell size" is 11x14 but the "custom file dimensions" are 12x18, then I have the lab use 12x18 paper, leaving me a white border on my print that makes it easier to mat and frame.
Â
Two questions, really.
Â
1. Does LR do anything differently as it creates a JPG, depending on whether you use Export or "Print to File"? I'm assuming not, but just wondering.
Â
2. Is there a way to do what I want to do -- create a JPG where the picture is one size but the paper size is larger -- through the Export dialogue (like ideally, through an export preset) or do I indeed have to go through the Print module to do this?
Â
No emergency here, my method is working for me. (Though using an export preset to do what I'm doing, rather than having to go through the Print module, would be a little quicker, I suppose.)
I just upgraded to the Creative Cloud on my PC, downloaded PS CS6 - Bridge and Camera Raw. I'm configuring and working with CR2 files, no problem, however, Bridge will not let me delete, rename or update the metadata of my jpgs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design & Web Premium. Most of my preferences (layout, etc) were imported correctly from CS5. When I right-click (PC, Windows 7) on the Bridge CS6 thumbnail, and click on 'Open with ', there was a collection of Microsoft programs (COM Surrogate 6.1, Microsoft PowerPoint 12.0, Publisher 12.0, Windows Live Photo Gallery 15.4), and no Photoshop (Default). When I used the WIndows file-associations program, and Photoshop CS6 was associated with *.psd files, then it appeared in the 'Open with ...' menu as Photoshop (Default). However, the other Microsoft programs are still present. How do I get rid of these and add the relevant Adobe programs (Ai, Id, Dw, etc),

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was working on three images in Photoshop CS3, when I went to open them from Bridge for review, two of three files were reduced to tiny white squares with a dogear in the top right corner, a little blue bounding box containing three tinier red green and blue somethings so small I couldn't even see what they were with my jewellery spec.
Nothing happened when I clicked on them, no error message, nothing. I managed to get one of them in 'reveal' - which opened up a larger blue bounded box with the red button containing a cross with the message 'cannot open as not right kind of file'.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I make minor adjustments to a photo in Camera Raw within Adobe Bridge, it saves the edits in a DW (Dreamweaver) file next to that photograph. I have not changed any settings recently and don't know why it would start doing that all of a sudden.
When I delete that DW file, all of the edits to that photo disappear and it reverts back to the original. Every time I click on the DW file, it takes me to Dreamweaver and opens a window with a whole bunch of code. How can I go back to having everything I do in Camera Raw save to/into the photo itself?
I thought Bridge was a photo management utility. I can't even change a photo file name. Is there a way to do it, or what kind of photo management utility is this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use my photoshop daily and have about 50000 images on my computer so very much need the bridge to be able to view them all and select the ones I want. for the past few days I have been getting "photoshop has encountered an error and needs to close" every time I try to open a file through bridge, quite often I also get the same error message on the bridge as well a few seconds later.
Â
I have tried reinstalling photoshop, I even tried deleting all the presets which I have added over the years and trying it straight from the reinstall, it still does the same,
I used to able to double click on an image in bridge and it would come up in ps. It doesnt do anything now. I have cs3 and bridge and i havent changed anything...
i noticed it said that Com surrogate 6.0 was default...
i think thats some vista lingo crap.
For some unknown reason...CS2 has started placing "Adobe Bridge Cache" file shortcuts on my desktop. When I click on one, I receive a Win XP error message that says the file .bc is unkown and can't be opened.
These shortcuts have never appeared before. Now the simple act of opening Bridge and looking at jpeg files seems to initiate it.
Questions: Why is PS doing this? Do I need to pay attention to it? If not, how do I stop PS from cluttering up my desktop.
