I have noticed something very peculiar and annoying, however: when I use the paintbrush tool, the cursor disappears when I hover the cursor over the canvas. This makes it almost impossible to use my brand new Graphire pad.

I have just upgraded from X4 to X6 and found that when using the paint tool, the cursor disappears at the end of the action, and appears again when the cursor is moved again.This happens when the user interface setting is set to 'Shape cursor for brush tools".
More of a concern for me is when the Eyedropper tool is set to 'Select sample', (the one I always use), no rubber rectangle is drawn to show the area that is being sampled.That is, it is supposed to draw a dynamic rectangle in a similar way that the rectangular mask tool selects an area with a rectangle changing size with movement of the cursor.The eyedropper samples the correct pixels, but does not draw the enclosing rectangle.I have tried running it in all comparability modes except for 256 color and 640 x 480 resolution, which aren't options for me.
X4 didn't exhibit these problems so I can't understand how it can't be a bug, especially since the rectangular mask tool draws the rubber-banding rectangle without a problem. At this point would be preferring to be using X4.

Sep 26, 2013Do I have to deactivate my copy of CS6 before I do a reinstall of the operating system or, will it recognize the reinstall of the program (CS6) as legitimate and just install it with out any problems? I have never done this before with Adobe products.

Sep 6, 2012Photoshop lets add multiple Smart Filters (SF) to the same Smart Object (SO), and define the blending mode of each SF separately.
Let's say I've a SO with two SF (Gaussian Blur and Median): it looks like they operate in stack, that is: the first filter (Gaussian Blur) is applied to the original SO, while the second (Median) is applied to the result of the first filter (i.e. the blurred SO). As a consequence, if you switch the order of the SF, the result changes. That's the way it is.
My question is as follows: is there a preference / setting hidden somewhere that would make the multiple Smart Filters of a single SO operate *not* in stack, but on the very same SO, letting the blending modes to do the blend? I doubt, but it's fair to ask.

Apr 15, 2013I'm modeling a sanitary sewer network in SSA. The network consists of a gravity system that collects wastewater from several buildings and coveys it to a lift station. Two pumps at the lift station pump wastewater through a 6-inch force main that is approximately 1,300 ft long and it is not connected to any other force mains so no other pumps are pumping into the system. There is one gravity main at the end of the force main that delivers the wastewater to the headworks of the wastewater treatment plant. The pumps are rated at 430 gpm at 75 ft, with a shutoff head of 110 ft.
The problem is that the model says that 1,100 gpm is flowing through the force main with one pump running. This is not possible as the TDH of the pump would need to be 220 ft to deliver that much flow. I'm using a Type 3 curve to define the pump. The force main is defined as "Circular Force Main" with a Hazen C factor of 120 and Manning's n of 0.013.
I've deleted the pumps and curves and reinserted them, but that didn't change anything. I'd like to avoid rebuilding the entire model

The reply from Adobe stated that they have to support legacy operating systems, which I'm pretty sure is handled by the installer, so it's a sad excuse.One could simply say "if XP" load this dialogue hook, if win 7 use this hook.
What is the status of this lack of effort?
We waste more time trying to save a file with this old school dialogue than is required.

Oct 3, 2013I had an alert to update Photoshop but after three attempts it reaches 56% then fails. It is accompanied by a message to contact customer care and gives the number: U44MIP34. I have retried after a restart but with same result. Then I tried again after running AVG registry cleaner equally without success. Could it be a time difference between US and UK?

Dec 14, 2012My cursor appears and disappears while in GIMP as I move the cursor over the canvas. I can make the cursor appear but only if there is no movement of the cursor. It makes no difference which tool I select, the size of the canvas, or the level of zoom.
Please note that this only occurs in Gimp, and none of my other applications. It started when I upgraded from openSUSE 12.1 to 12.2. I'm assuming that it has something to do with my input device configuration, but I could be totally wrong.
I have a total of 3 input devices - Core Pointer, Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse, and Virtual Core XTEST Pointer. Both the Optical Mouse and XTEST Pointer are DISABLED. Core Pointer is the only one enabled. Enabling Optical Mouse and XTEST Pointer give me other problems in Gimp and need to remain disabled.
For the Core Pointer, Mode is set to SCREEN, a message says that 'The axis X has no curve', and the following Axis Settings:

ytilt none
wheel none
In Gimp Preferences->Input Controllers, there are three active controllers - Mouse Buttons, Main Mouse Wheel, and Main Keyboard.

Dec 12, 2012I applied the lateset automatic update to Photoshop CS6 (the one that adds Retina display support) and it's corrupted the Photoshop icon (Mac OS X).
Here's a composite screenshot showing the icon in the Dock, the small icon in the Finder's Column View, and the large icon in the Finder doesn't display at all, and is replaced with a generic icon. They all exhibit a different type of visual corruption.

Jun 6, 2013Since the latest update earlier this week, I've experienced major issues with the character palette - particularly the point size and tracking. The tracking issue is by far the greater of these two evils and the following explains the issues I've observed:
tracking - the number you type isn't the number used to set the tracking. The slider and up/down arrows do not remedy this problem, though they make it slightly more predictable. The number that appears seems random, though I've noticed a pattern in some instances (typing 20 sets tracking 18, typing 40 sets it 36, typing 60 sets it 54, and so on). This issue also appears to be connected to free transforming a text layer, so the pattern is possibly based on the percentage of scaling.
font size - the number you type works if size is increased in small increments to a certain point. Then it max's out, and this error appears repeatedly (after ok is clicked the error pops back up)
I've searched the web for resolutions to the issue and haven't found anything. This is what I've tried and none of it worked to any lasting degree:
- set units to pixels in preferences and restart photoshop
- set units back to points in preferences and restart photoshop
- restart photoshop and pc (several times)
- shut down photoshop and pc (several times)
- unplug pc and discharge static

if I could view them as a sectioned off category, similar to how fonts in different languages seem to have their own little nested categories with divider lines above/below them.
I can't stand it anymore as it really seems to be ruining my workflow having to go through each font or look as tiny previews to try and hunt for the perfect type face... Not only that but it seems you can't highlite text and use the up/down arrows to sort through them.
