Photoshop :: Create Patch Of Skin For Arm And Leg - Partially Obstructed By Another?
May 29, 2012
I am trying to create a patch of skin for an arm and leg that are partially obstructed by another object. I am trying to use the Clone Tool, but with limited success. The slight tonal changes of skin are very challenging. Should I be using a different tool/technique?

I'm working on a necrotic zombie-like picture of myself and was trying to wrap skin around my mouth, but it looks fake. Can anyone give me a tip on how to make this look real?
I also noticed my right eye is much darker do to the lighting of the original picture, and I can't seem to get that lightened to match the left one.

I have a biped model animated in a cave scene, with several columns in the middle of the cave.
I am rendering the model in a different render pass than the cave itself.
I would like to render out the model with the alpha channel obstructed when a cave column comes between the model and the camera, so i won't rotoscope in nuke the shape of the column.
Don't know how to call this rendering pass....

creating futuristic metallic skins.....? If any of you have seen VTC advanced photoshop course by Jayse then you know what I am on about. He creates metalic looking skin using curves, displacement maps, curves etc...but on his last "15 - Nicole Face" lesson there are steps which are skipped....
My question is does anyone know how he adjusts the curves to create highlights on the images (One looks like he has played around with the curves and animated it...I don't know how he has done this).

is it possible to create a rig, then animate, then skin it to the model?
The reason why I ask is, what if a team is working on a project. One person is working on the model and the other can work on the animation, do you think they are able to meet in the middle, instead of waiting for the model to be completed?

I just learned how to edit existing Winamp skins and change their buttons/backgrounds. I want to create a Winamp skin of Kimidori Emiri using the following image.
[URL]........
How can I trace Kimidori Emiri, in the aforementioned image, and cut her out so that she looks like Hatsune Miku (smooth and not jagged) in the following image?
[URL]......
Things I have tried:
- I tried two different outline plugins but was unable to get them to work.
- I tried tracing Kimidori Emiri using the line tool but I'm not sure how to delete the rest of the image and it's really difficult to get a smooth cut anyway.
- I tried selecting pixels using the magic wand tool and it was great except the tool ended up selecting pixels that are apart of Kimidori Emiri too.

I occasionally use GIMP to burn-down parts of portraits that compete with the face. For example, bare shoulder, midriff over-light, hands over-lit.
The skin ends up looking greyish, not like less-lit skin. It works not too badly visually, as the emphasis is on the face, but fails on inspection.
I have tried the burn tool and just plain old Brightness, both on a selected area.

I have a file that someone created and one of the layers says that it is 'Partially Locked'.
I never had delt with this before and was wondering how I go about unlocking it.
Double Clicking it, like I do with locked layers, only brought up the layer style property box.

In PS CS6 (trial version for windows - I use windows 7) ordinary photo files only load partially. Huge pixel blocks seem te be absent. Only after a second attempt they load as should be. My hardware is rather up to date (6 GB work memory); I 've never had this problem in CS 5.

I have an image (of many layers) which are mostly solid color, and solid alpha. 1-bit alpha, which is exactly what i want. However there are a few parts which are slightly blurry, where it fades between the two. this is causing problems in my end result. The common white halo effect.
I've tried the flaming pear solidify plugin, and it's totally not what i want. I don't want to fill everything with color or mess around with alpha channels. What i want to do is convert all partially transparent pixels, to either 0 or 100% alpha, with no middle ground. Essentially to make the image alpha binary. ideally some plugin which lets me define the threshold for one or the other would be nice.
I'm saving as an 8bit png, which naturally forces everything to be 1-bit alpha. this is unfortunately resulting in a lot of pixels being white where they show as almost invisible in Photoshop, so i want to fix this problem author side. Ideally i'd like to not mess around with alpha channels - i like the png format because i never have to touch the alpha channel, it's all done for me which speeds up workflow dramatically. I know i can save as a 24 bit png which will store the partial alpha information, but this also increases file size which is not an acceptable compromise for my purpose.

I am trying to make an image have the shape like the one used on this webpage's navigation.
Initially, I thought I could acheive this by using the same technique you use for rounded borders, but since only two of the borders are round, I assumed that it could not be done this way.
So, now I'm assuming I have to use the pen tool in some way.
how or if the pen tool is even the right tool.

Photoshop CS4 was useless for me due to many problems that occured on my system (and as far as i can see, many other user's systems).
Meanwhile i installed the Patch to Version 11.0.1 and updated to new NVIDIA-driver Version 182.03.
I gave PS CS4 another try and realized, that some of the problems are gone. The OpenGL Features stay activated, rotating and smooth zooming are available and work fast and stable, graphic glitches and wrong menu-drawing are gone. That is most of the time...
Some problems remain:
- My long trusted wacom driver Version 493-3 (the only driver i had no problems with) does not grant me pressure-sensitivity in Photoshop CS4. It works well with CS3, but in CS4 theres no pressure at all. So switched to ne newest driver version. But even the newest Wacom-Driver does not work properly. If I close photoshop and reopen it, some pressure sensitivity of the brushes is gone. Sometimes ALL pressure sensitive functions are gone. Sometimes it helps reloading my brushes, sometimes this has no effect at all. Driver Version is 610-6 in combination with an Intuos3 Tablet.
- I have many cases where Photoshop just disappeared. It closed without warning or error-message.
- the OpenGL Features STILL deactivate out of nowhere. This happens mostly with layer-intensive documents and in combination with taskswitches. I only realise this when zooming becomes jumpy and the smoothness is suddenly gone. Then the rotate feature is greyed out. Strange thing is, all openGL features are still marked as active in the preferences. There's no warning or error message, the features simply vanished for this particular document. (It stays active for other open documents at the same time)
I am completely helpless here. For me it is AGAIN back to CS3. Working with Photoshop CS4 is really not possible with the above mentioned things happening all the time.
I use the most recent drivers available. My system is still fresh and nothing of this ever happened with Photoshop CS3.

I'm making graphics for a 2D game. One important part of performance optimisation is getting rid of unnecessary alpha sorting. I don't want partial alpha unless i have a specific need for it. I'm wanting all my images to be 1-bit alpha only. That is, a pixel is either completely opaque, or completely transparent - never inbetween.
I'm not sure how to do this easily in photoshop. So far i've come up with a workflow that fills my needs pretty well, except that it seems unnecessarily long and complicated:
1. Place the graphic on a transparent background
2. Use the magic wand to select transparent space, using the tolerance value to define the cutoff point
3. Select Refine Edge, and shift the contrast up to 100. For some reason if I don't do this, photoshop will often "partially select" a pixel, giving undesired results.
4. Hit delete. This removes all pixels that were selected (transparent enough to fall within the tolerance)
5. Select > Inverse. Shifts my selection to everything except what i just delete, ie the actual graphic.
6. Using the color picker, i pick an appropriate neutral color from the main body of the graphic. or i use black.
7. Using the pencil tool, with the draw mode set to Behind, and with a colossal radius, i draw on the graphic. This fills in all the remaining partially transparent pixels with the solid colour that i chose
This workflow does the job perfectly for me, and exactly achieves my intended results. but i can only do it on one layer at a time (i usually need to do this on about 18 layers, for a character graphic).
So what i'm looking for here, is some way to automate this process. The overall point of it really is forcing all pixels to "take a side", becoming either fully transparent, or fully opaque. Is there any better built in way to accomplish this? or a plugin? I'm open to commercial tools and plugins, even.
Probably relevant, I'm using photoshop CS5

I recently upgraded from Photoshop CS3 to CS6. The patch tool did not appear to work as well in CS4 or CS5 and CS6 appears just as bad.
I've attached an image showing (from left to right) a patch using:
CS3;
CS6 Normal;
CS6 Content Aware.
CS3 is MUCH better.

I am having a problem using the patch tool in Photoshop CS5. I click on the Patch Tool and select the Source option from the upper tool bar. Then I circle a gray area in the background of my photo and, holding down the left mouse button, I drag the selection to a black area in the background and release the mouse button. Instead of turning the selected area black it just makes the area slightly darker than it was originally.

I select an area I want to repair, click source, then drag to the area I want to use to make the repair and release. It looks great in the preview, before I release. As soon as I release it disappears.
For example, after using the automate tool to combine multiple images into a panorama with a transparent background there are a few blank areas. I select one of the blank areas with the patch tool, click source then drag to the area I want to use as the replacement and release. As soon as I release, it goes back to the transparent background. The transparent button is NOT selected.
This is a Windows Vista system, with NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video, If I try to do updates to CS4 is sas it is using the latest driver. Which it lists as version 11.0.2.

I am using the patch tool to patch (!) areas of an image. Instead of patching the selection into the image, PS4 blends it, so that some of the patch and some of the original image are visible. I've searched for a way to instruct PS4 to reduce the opacity but I can't find such an option. Is it possible to truly 'patch' and not 'blend' an area of an image?

1. Open image of pot/vise.
2. I used the Patch tool and defined a selection around the stitches.
3. With the Source mode button checked (transparent is checked too but I don't know what that does), dragged from inside the selected area to a new area. While the mouse button is held down, the new area is displayed in the original selected area which is good so far. However, as soon as the mouse button is released, the original selected area reverts back to the original area and no longer is the new area.

I'm trying to use the patch tool to fix some carpet I have. The carpet is half black and half white, but its split up into sections. I'm trying to cover the black part with the patch of the white carpet. When I do that, all it does is make a blurry version of the black carpet with a little bit of white in it.
How could I make this white instead of a blurry blackish/white version?

i've had Photoshop 7 for years now, and didn't have the internet at the time to even know about any patches and/or other releases for it at the time. But while the subject is in my head, and seeing as i use 7.0 as a back-up if CS4 decides to play up for whatever reason, it thought i'd install the patch.
I downloaded the patch from here, the official site, but i have a problem trying to instal it. The proces goes fine until it actually comes to the patching part, which it then says it could not find Photoshop.exe to patch, even though it is looking in the right place and everything where the .exe is. What's going on?
