I thought I used to be able to select a shape and then select a size and then just click and there is was. Now a dialog box pops up ("create custom shape")and asks for a size every time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying the trial version of Photoshop CS6, and I'm wondering whether or not it's possible to change the length of a shape with the amount of text entered into it, with the text still being editable? For example, if I had typed in 'hello', the size of the shape should be just big enough for the text to fit inside, without me having to change anything. On the other hand, if I typed in 'good morning', would I be able to make it so the size of the shape would change for the text to fit without having to use the transform tool?

I have the think bubble custom shape on it's own layer, when I click on my photo layer the custom shape dissappears. How do I keep the custom shape on the photo layer. The custom shape layer, has a layer thumbnail and a vector mask thumbnail next to it. I am new to using layers please explain in baby steps.

I used the quick selection tool to select it from the original photo, used the the paint bucket to make the shape black and the drug it over to a new window or canvas. The quick selection tool won't let me 'select' just the image shape in the new canvas, it will only select a square around the shape which includes the transparent background. The shape is blurry/ragged so I want to select the shape and sharpen it.

I have not ventured much into the pen tool and I am totally illiterate when it comes to this tool.
My question is about gradients and anti-aliasing. I'm using PS 7.0 and what I want to do is use the custom shape tool, and fill the shape with a gradient. Not difficult, but here's where I get caught. After the shape is filled, I'd like the edges to remain anti-aliased.
For example, if I use the custom shape tool to create a hand print with anti-aliased edges, then use the magic want to select it. Next I grab my fore and back colors, choose a linear gradient and drag it in the appropriate direction. The selected shape is filled the way I want, but when I deselect, the edges have become pixelated. Is there a way to avoid this and keep them smooth? I tried using the blur tool and blur filter, but they don't quite have the same look.
I was using the custom shape tool (say I want to make a star) and in my other version of PS (7), it would automatically create a new shape layer, linked where you could click and change the color, etc.
When I try it in CS2 it draws the shape on the background directly. Now I am able to create a new layer, draw the shape and then fill it with a color to get the same result - but it was much easier the other way. I'm assuming it's just a setting (much like the changed linked layers setting)

In previous versions of Photoshop it was default behaviour to affect the shape in the currently selected layer when using the Direct Select tool. In Photoshop CC it's default behaviour to affect all shapes (in seperate layers) within the selected area. I often want to change some anchor points on a single rounded rectangle, for example, to make it fit perfectly.
Is there any way, without selecting "isolate layers", to restrict the selection to the currently selected shape layer?
