Photoshop :: How To Select Shape And Sharpen It

Mar 10, 2012

I am having trouble selecting an image I would like to sharpen and clean up. I used the quick selection tool to select it from the original photo, used the the paint bucket to make the shape black and the drug it over to a new window or canvas. The quick selection tool won't let me 'select' just the image shape in the new canvas, it will only select a square around the shape which includes the transparent background. The shape is blurry/ragged so I want to select the shape and sharpen it.

Photoshop :: Direct Select A Single Shape In CC?

Jun 18, 2013

In previous versions of Photoshop it was default behaviour to affect the shape in the currently selected layer when using the Direct Select tool. In Photoshop CC it's default behaviour to affect all shapes (in seperate layers) within the selected area. I often want to change some anchor points on a single rounded rectangle, for example, to make it fit perfectly.

Is there any way, without selecting "isolate layers", to restrict the selection to the currently selected shape layer?

Photoshop :: How To Select Individual Anchor Points Of A Shape

Jul 14, 2013

In PS CS 6 it used to be possible to draw a shape, like a rectangle, and then use the direct selection tool to select and move one corne of the rectangle. However, in PS CC this does not work anymore. When I try to use the direct selection tool, all anchor points remain selected and so I can't move a single point, just all of them at once. What might I be doing wrong? Did something change in the CC version?!

Photoshop :: Select A Circular Shape And Delete Area Outside Of It

May 8, 2006

I need to place a circle selection around a ring shape in a gif graphic and then delete the background outside of the ring shape. The gif I am working with is a square shape with a green background and on that is a white circle shape with lettering going around it and a small pic inside the circle shape. I want to only use the white circle shape with the text going around it and the pic inside and discard the green square background appearing outside the ring.

Photoshop :: Auto-select Layer Within 10 Pixels Of Shape Impossible Without Having To Zoom In?

Jul 3, 2012

I have been using CS6 for a while now and one problem that I keep encountering is the auto-selection of shape layers. Trying to auto-select a layer that's within 10 pixels of a shape layer is impossible without having to zoom in. This is a little hard to explain without images... Cue image...

If you try to recreate the above image, where the black 20x20px rectangle is a shape and the red 38x38px rounded rectangle is rasterized pixels, you will see that auto-selecting the red rounded rectangle is impossible at 100%.

Is this intentional and just an issue for me? Selecting pixel layers in CS5 was never this annoying. It seems that shape layers have an invisible 10px area around them stopping you from selecting anything below them. This is so frustrating with pixel UI work.

But can I be doing more with Photoshop CS6, or Lightroom and Photoshop together?

Before I hit OK, the original photo in the background is altered. It is brighter and the colors are better as well as sharper. Overall it looks much better. I figured this was a preview of sorts but when I hit OK in the smart sharpen the results aren't as good as it was showing. In fact, they are noticeably worse. It is sharpened but the colors and brightness of the photo back to the original.

Photoshop :: *TRUE* Sharpen?

May 24, 2008

I just started experimenting with a way to get Photoshop to do a TRUE sharpen, where it actually pulls the pixels around blurry edges together, rather than just adding contrast to create the *illusion* of sharpness... but I need ideas. I use sharpening a great deal on photos, but if done too heavily, it always adds that fake "sharpened" look to it, around all the edges... Trouble is, some images NEED that sharpness, and I'm wondering why Adobe still hasn't come up with anything that does a *true* sharpen, after all these years.

So, before I dive more deeply into this, I want to save time (since I don't have much) by seeing if anyone has any ideas as to how to do a couple things.

b - 1.
How would you suggest bringing the blurry pixels in selected regions together?

On my test image, I've had some success using Surface Blur (applied multiple times) believe it or not, but the problem is that on actual photos, it has a knack to only "true-sharpen" the hardest edges, and soften the more subtle ones. Here's an example of what I started testing with:

I also tried Posterize, but this won't work on a large image with more than a few colors in it, because it likes to cut things down to just a few colors (and it looks very messy in photos, because of jagged edges).

b - 2.
Umm, okay, I guess there isn't a second thing... I figured out several good ways of selecting edges; now I just need to find a reliable way to pull blurry edges together along those edges.

Photoshop :: Sharpen A Picture

way to take a photo and sharpen the image.

We took a picture of my daughter when she was 2 that is just prescious. However it was taken on a film roll before we got a digital camera. The resolution is bad but my wife wants to use it in a scrapbook.

I have it in jpeg format now and was wondering if Photoshop can take a bad picture and make it cleaner and clearer?
