Jan 9, 2013Is there any way in Elements 9 to convert a color or color range to "transparent"? I want to change a white background of an imported image (a map) to transparent so only the non-white objects (lines and shapes) are present. The image is way too complex to select each area individually.

I use the "select color range" feature alot to do things with specific color pixels, but that feature doesn't seem to work in this case.

Aug 15, 2004I have a jpeg that has a white background. I want to remove teh white background so I can drag the jpeg into a layer on another iamge. I tried using the magnetic lassoo tool but it didnty come out all that good. I remember when i used to use Paitshop pro you could choose a colour in an image that you would like to make transparent. Can something like this be done in PS?

Feb 26, 2005I am trying to create an action converting PSD to transparent GIF with Save for Web option. The gif file is created correctly during my action record session. But when I replay it, the gif file saved from PSD file doesnt have the transparent background.

I would like to create several similar green rectangles at various levels of transparency that will perfectly match the color of the solid green rectangle. Is there an easy way to do this?
I have tried matching it by eye, and can get very close:
the original solid green rectangle is R:135 G: 174 B: 155
after making a copy of the solid green rectangle, say, 90% transparent, I can play with Hue/Saturation to get around R:136 G:175 B: 154, according to the eyedropper. But I don't see any way of fine tuning the RGB/HSB/etc. absolute values in the transparent version.

Apr 1, 2011I've been working with Paint.NET for a while and it's got some great tools for creating images with transparent parts. what I'm looking for is some way to make a picture partially transparent.
So, say I've got a PNG of a tree. I want the tree to be 70% visible, so you can see outlines of things placed behind the tree. How do I do this? Using the magic marker to select the tree, and then telling it to make the tree partially transparent doesn't work since the part's that doesn't get transparent gets the secondary color as the 70% visibility, not the original, different shadings of the tree.

Sep 22, 2012I have a layer that is all white with text and some shapes (with heavy anti-aliasing, so the alpha channel variations of white, too) and I am trying to convert it to a specific other color (just a cream color that I have the HTML code for).
So, when a layer is all one color (not counting variation in alpha values), is there a technique to change that to a specific other color, rather than just toggling the "Color Balance" to get an approximation?

Oct 9, 2008I have a solid color rectangle on a layer.
I would like to create several similar rectangles on different layers with different opacity levels (i.e. 90%/75%/50% etc), that will match the solid color rectangle exactly, when they are against a white background.
I used Hue/Saturation on the transparent rectangles to approximate the solid color, but the eyedropper shows that I am a of couple values off. Is there a way to accurately match these colors exactly?

Oct 18, 2011I am in the process of designing a clear label for my aftershave and would like to have the text on a solid color panel be transparent so that the liquid is visible. I would also like to have an outline (Line) tracing the font. I've been doing some internet searches for "punched out" and "cutout" text and the like but this process is using two solid color layers.
As it stands now, I have a transparent background, the panel as one layer, and the text as another layer on top of the panel.
I came across a process for Illustrator but was hoping that it could be done in Photoshop as well since I have everything already setup in PS. I did try the method described for Illustrator but I couldn't get it to work in PS...not throwing out the high percentage of operator error on this one.
