Aug 22, 2013How does one use "Channels" to extract a portion of a photo for use in another piece?

View 1 RepliesI have a picture I'd like to Extract. So far I have lightened it and cropped it. I have also had a look at Russell Browns QT tutorial, but I don't quite understand about channels. As far as I can see, I would benefit from using the Red Channel perhaps, but I would like your opinion on it.
Also, while I do Extract it, I'd like the image as large as possible, but once I click "Extract", the picture becomes much smaller. If I keep it as big as it is now, it will be OK, but probably not if I resize it.
At the moment, the picture is quite big, and I don't know how to get it down in size (kb) and still keep it physically big enough for you to view it. I know I can save for web, but even then, it won't go down to 75KB. What Width etc. should I set it to?
I'm a pretty advanced photoshopper but I always wondered how people get a piece apart from a photograph, for example I want the car on the following photo, but only the car, not the rest of the picture. Code:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm on CS5. I have a photo, and I want to highlight the central portion of this using a custom shape - let's say a star. When I do this I can work with the shape.
I don't want to work with the shape, I want it to be there, but the image inside the shape I want to remain visible. Then round the edges of the shape I want to add borders (?Stroke) of colors selected from the image. Obviously I don't want to hand draw the shape because I won't make it symmetrical.
So, once I've chosen my shape, how can I work outside the shape, whilst still retaining visibility inside the shape?
I am starting a new threads about bumpmaps and FSX because a. I have used the wrong language for you to answer me and b. the old post provoked heated debate, which I didn't want.
OK, the answer to generating bumpmaps is that I have to move the red channel (copy?) it into the alpha channel - how do I do that? Corel is obviously not a graphics tool that is aimed at my brain... and not the way I like to think and I am missing something here.
Once I have moved the red channel contents to the alpha, I can flood fill the red with black and the blue with white - that is fine and I can do that.
Now I have to save the RGB plus alpha - for FSX use I need to save in ddsx mode - or convert to dds using "Imagetool" or "DXTBmp" - I guess saving as TGA would do the trick? Is there a better RGBA format?
I would like to save only one of the color channels, for example the magenta channel of my .tiff image. How do I do that? Every time I save my image I just get a grayscale image, even though I'm able to see the magenta channel just fine.

On the photo there is a lady sitting to the left with a cream/white t-shirt on, I have been asked to try and restore that bit too rather than do what I have done in the resto.
This is all I have to go on:
Here is the original image:
and my Restoration so far:
They want the t-shirt as well but there is nothing to go on apart from some apparent squiggles, as you can see.
how I can extract it, I can't even make out what it says or else I would try and find the t-shirt and put it in.
What are they used for? I have been using PS for around 3 years primarly for web design and I have never used channels outside of loading a selection. I searched for more info; I mostly got tutorials that use alpha channels, but no real explanation as to what they primarly do.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a ton of stock images with the backgrounds removed that I need made to look like a puzzle piece with a 3D feel and a slight shadow to make it look like it's floating above the canvas.
I also will need to make an indented outline of the image where the puzzle piece would fit. I've attached an example of what I'm looking to do (I don't need the wood background, I think I'd probably just use a solid color).
I have a specific requirement which is to apply an image, pattern or text to a 3d dome. The dome is will be in two half's and layed flat in 2d then printed off with the design so that when the two halves are joined together the image or pattern matches across the seam. Is this even possible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using Photoshop for a while now.. and I've always wondered... is it possible to actually alter the handwriting on a piece of paper, seen in the image?...
Am I able to change the letters "GARV" on the paper, to something like, "CAKE" or "JOHN" or "AUSTRALIA" ?
Matching the handwriting of "GARV" isnt a huge plus, but making the altered word look realistic, as if it were written before the image was taken. Code:
The project involves me cutting out pieces of various images, and pasting them into one main image. It was going fine for the first ten or so image pieces, but the last time I tried to do it, something very strange happened.
When I pasted the piece of an image into my main image, it came out red and transparent.why it's doing this because I didn't change anything or do anything differently. What can I do to fix this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have received permission to use the attached logo (1st image) on a business card for a project.
I want to place it on a blue background, so I've copied the type in Illustrator switched the colors so everything can be read against blue and worked well. However, I can't seem to get whatever file type I place of the shield in Illustrator (tiff, jpg, gif) to not have white pixels around it. You'll see what I mean in the attached 2nd image.
I made a selection of the shield and then did a layer mask of the rest of the logo. There are some extra pixels but some are so small that I don't think I can get them all. I've tried placing the logo in InDesign too and there is the same issue.
I have blended still photos, imported video AVI with it's own audio and music tracks. The work area was rendered and when I play the sections the music blends out and the video plays back as it's supposed to and even with full screen. Then I use the "Share" tab and burn a DVD using either a DVD-R or DVD+R and everything is fine except the video pieces that I want to play are silent.
