Photoshop :: Change Color But Keep Texture And Shading
Nov 23, 2013
I have been trying to do this for a while but getting nowhere fast, I need to change the color of a suit in an image, at the moment the color is a shade of blue but i want to change it to a mustard color.
I have tried using the Hue Saturation color displacement but no joy. I have attached the image that needs changing.

A few years ago I learned in school the usefullness of global color. I used it today and it was very usefull to quickly change the color of a lot of different objects at the same time.
HOWEVER; I remember they also tought me that it was also possible to change the brightness or shading or something inside one global color.
for example lets say I picked a red as a global color, and I have 10 objects all in that red. Then it should be possible to let 5 of those objects have a lighter version of that red color.
Then afterwards when I change my global color to green, all the objects change to green, and those 5 objects now have a lighter green color.
Am i remembering this correctly, and if so; how do I apply this? Because I cannot figure it out...

When I am using repousse on type the shading on 3d is true to the color of type but if I am using a layer mask or path of a shape its just grey scale shading. Is there a function within the 3d to color the shading.

for example, you have a sketch that you drew yourself that has shading done around the face, but you want to color it in with a flash tone over the shading.

I have a piece of fabric that I'm trying to colour with a variety of different light & dark colours (blues, yellows, reds, black, white, grey, etc). The fabric colour that I'm trying to fill is a light grey which shows the texture (shadows, pattern, etc) of the fabric. In the layers pallet I have the fabric layer set to multiply and placed above the colour layer so that the colour comes through.
My problem is that I'm having some difficulty in colouring in the fabric. With lighter colours it's not a problem, but darker colours appear to saturate the selection too much which results in a loss of texture definition - the cracks in the texture appear that they are filled with paint. At the moment I have been playing with a combination of fabric layers set at different blend modes & opacities: multiply, screen & overlay which works to a certain extent but I'm not happy with the realism of the results especially for the darker colours.
With that said I have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone have any good experience with colouring selections which maintain colour & texture accuracy (to see what I mean, design a shoe at NikeID.com). You can see how they colour a lace in a variety of light & dark colours accurately (accurate colours while maintaining good texture). More generally, what's the 'best' approach here to blend (or some other method) the full spectrum of light to dark colours?
2. Ideally, what colour should the underlying fabric be? (white, grey, black?) And why? I notice that it's easy to colour a predominately white fabric with light colours but increasingly difficult to colour the selection the darker the target fill is.

I am looking to take an image of a seat and change the current material to a different material. The new material will be both a different color and a different texture so just changing the color with an adjustment layer will not work, but may be part of the process. I need this to look very realistic; complete with shadows and highlights.
Is there a way to take a sample from the material I want to use and apply it quickly? I have been using photoshop for a while now and can't think of a way to do this. I am thinking this may be a job for a different program, but if I can do it in photoshop that would be wonderful.

I want to paint texture into an image without adding or changing color.
The best way to explain my goal is to visit this website with very fine work by Mark Wainer.
[URL]....
My own website is [URL]...
He has used Buzz, as have I, to change photos into watercolor like images, now defunct and taken over by Topaz software, who now market Simplify in place of BUZZ.
After running the filter, he has added brush strokes to add texture without altering any color—just adding a texture looking like impasto or thick brush strokes.
I have searched everywhere and view lots of video but cannot find a technique to get the result I want.
I am sure there is way to do this, probably with brushes in CS6 and unable to find or create a way to achieve this effect.

I'm coming from Fireworks.A technique I use often in my ui work is to combine a texture with a gradient that fades the gradients color and the pattern to transparent.
In Fireworks, this can be done on a single layer with no mask. The transparency of the gradient affects the pattern. This is not the case in Photoshop. I am wondering how I can accomplish the same thing in Photoshop, while keeping everything vector.

I have an imageplane attached to a camera. If I use an image, it shows up in all view-ports fine, however if I change the mode to texture, nothing shows up, either in dx11 or opengl mode. It is there though, and correctly referenced, as it shows up correctly when I render.
Am I missing something, or is it just broken?

I'd like to change the picture here:
[URL].........
So that the fur of the animal looks purple/mauve (in particular the gray part, it would be best if the white part didn't change).
I haven't found a way to do this, even approximately (which would be enough), in a textured surface. Methods I've seen changing the hue saturation seem to work when working with primary colors, but I can't get it to work with a gray color.

I've been trying to work on my color matching skills (which are poor). The long term goal is to be able to match a sample texture's color with other texture samples that have been de-saturated then re-colored to match the original so that they can blend in and out of each other easily.
I'm using the attached image as a sample, then de-saturating it and trying to get the same color in the de-saturated image. I've tried using different mix modes, different base colors, playing with levels, colorize, and other plug ins - but I can never get quite the same color across the image. Its either too brown, too red, too yellow, etc. I was wondering what methods would be used to get a close to exact result - and for that matter, if it is even possible to color match only using 1 base color as a overlay (or other mix type)?

The part I am detailing is a cast iron part, and I have appropriately changed the material appearance to match. On the IDW, a section view shows in the hatched area the same material as the non-hatched area. BUT, as we know, when we cut a cast iron part in half, the cut section of the part looks different then the outside.
Is there a way I can change the material appearance of the sectioned area of the part on the IDW, so it appears more obvious that it's a cut section?

For my 3D scene, I have to use a texture file on the floor. If I use the only file, than it looks really boring and below par. What I want is, I want to generate some (around 6-8) texture files within the original texture file - so the colors of all the texture files remain same but only the texture varies.Likewise there are more than 500 texture files and I just can't do them manually. Is there any way out to do this in Photoshop?

I try to copy a color with a custom texture to a part. In my data source I use a scale for the image between 0,1 and 1. (10-100%). On my form I have a slider to change the scale between this range.
But in the styles editor it is possible to go to 1000%. Is that also possible in the API?
