I'm aware of the intricacies of layer zero, and the general rule-of-thumb to draw content inside of blocks on 0 so that the block takes on the properties of the layer it is inserted onto, can be isolated, etc.
I generally follow this rule, and where required, I change the line color inside of the block when I want to maintain a certain lineweight. (lineweights based on my plot settings for colors). My dilema is that i've got an intricate block. I'd like to be able to manipulate this block in a way that you'd isolate layers and change their properties. Is there any way to isolate a portion of lines inside of a block while still maintaining them either on layer zero or another (magical) sort of "transparent" layer?
As an example, i'll use the classic "existing", "proposed" door block. i'll draw the door, swing, and jamb all on layer zero. I will set the the swing portion red and dashed so that both existing and proposed swings appear the same. the door itself will then take on the properties of my existing and proposed door layers, respectively. Now say i'd like to edit my block. I want to isolate the swing portion and color it by layer. (obviously the example is lacking here since it would be easiest to just click on the arc) Can i group items inside of a block, or better yet, can i create a second layer and somehow edit the layer's properties so it is "dynamic", "transparent", or "magical" like layer 0?
I am trying to convert all missing PlotStyles that are missing to one that is not missing.
I am working with the Style Manager and Display Manger. We use a custom .stb and in this custome .stb we have eliminated some of the standard PlotStyle Names such as Full Saturation, well as you may imagine some of the default materials, walls etc... under Style manager reference Full Saturation, right now I am going in by hand, one by one, changing this to AsDrawn.
Is there a way I can automate this for two purposes? 1.) so I don't have to do this all by hand 2.) as we "copy" elements from older jobs we can macro the change of plotstyle and so when we get drawings from outside we again can macro the plotstyle to AsDrawn.
Everytime I try to duplicate groups in photoshop cs6 to another open PSD file it usually works, but lately whenever I try to do it it only gives my the option to duplicate the groups to either a brand new file (an untitled file) or to the original file (that i'm duplicating the groups from). It won't allow me to duplicate them to another open PSD file.
For example, (in case i'm not being clear), say I have 2 files open such as A.psd and B.psd but i want to duplicate a bunch of groups i created in A.psd to B.psd. When i click on the groups i want to duplicate and the option box opens- in the destination box it only gives me the option of duplicating the groups to either A.psd (which is useless) or to a new file. It doesn't give the option to duplicate the groups to B.psd. It only gives the option if it's just a layer. I either have to merge groups into one layer or make them into a smart object and use the duplicate layer option instead. It's become a annoying problem because I want my groups to just duplicate. I shouldn't have to merge them in order to send them into another file. It has always worked until now.
For the projects I'm working on, I use the same template beneath the different layer groups of each different project. When I move a "color" layer into the group, however, it doesn't show up like it's supposed to. It behaves as if the 'color' layer is a blank layer, and has no effect. Is there any way to get this to work or?...
I just downloaded GIMP 2.8 (on Windows 7) and was using the layer groups to organize a project I'm doing. I noticed that whenever I put the layers into the layer group, nothing I do to them actually affects the image (for example if I change the opacity of the layer, it doesn't actually change). If I drag them out of the layer group they function perfectly; sometimes if I edit them and then drag them into the group they also work fine.
As I was writing this post I tested dragging a layer set to "dodge" into the group and it didn't work. It kept the dodge setting, but it looked as if it was on normal; however, I drug another layer set on dodge into the group and it worked fine.
Is this feature just broken on Windows, or does it not work like I thought (where you can drag them in and edit them individually, or edit them all by editing the layer group itself)?
I go Image | Mode | Duotone | Load...and get nothing. The Duotones folder is empty. A quick search of the internet suggests that the files have been moved. So I searched my pc for *.ado and got nothing. No files.
I was trying to install some brushes into the Brushes Preset folder but the only folders in the "Adobe Photoshop CS6" folder in the tree below doesn't have it. It's only a couple of random looking folders. I'm running OS 10.7.5 and CS6.
When I try to move layers or groups under an open layer group, it ends up inside that group instead. For example:Drag Group 3 between Group 1 and Group 2. It ends up inside Group 2, below Layer 2.Drag Group 3 between Background and Group 1. It ends up inside Group 1, below Layer 1.The only workarounds are:Close the layer group.Use Cmd-[ to move it "down" once more.
It seems to me there should be a more intuitive way to move layers, based on the indentation of the groups. Dragging a layer on a divider in the green area should move it at the top level, above background.Dragging a layer in the blue area should move it inside Group 1.Dragging a layer in the magenta area should move it inside Group 2.
Dragging a layer in the orange area should move it inside Group 3.The appropriate section of the divider should highlight to indicate where the layer will end up (currently the entire divider is highlighted)
I'm making an image which has a lot of layers, so I wondered if it is possible to group a few layers so they appear as one layer? Merging them won't work, then the layer styles vanish,
I have a image that has many layers that are grouped by folders and I've just exported it to .psd and after opening the exported file to check it, I see that the Group Layers cannot be opened. I've also tested this in an on-line Photoshop program (I can't install the actual Photoshop in my computer).
Adobe Photoshop CS be able to open the Group Layers and edit them?
As I am using Layer Comps more frequently, i find myself frequently needing to toggle the visibility of layer groups, which contain several sub-groups. I tried all the shift + cmd + option - click variations, but none seems to do the trick.
here an example:
Visibility Type Name OFF Group Row ON Group Button 1 OFF Text Help! OFF Shape Bg ON Group Button 2 OFF Text Help Please! OFF Shape Bg
so what i am looking for is a short-cut so that when i click on the visibility of the Group Row, it will turn on the visibility of all the layers contained.
Just upgraded from CS5 to CC and I find some thing very very very annoying. Any transform operation on a layer group seems to be applied on the individual layers instead of the group as a whole. How can I turn this extremely useless behavior off?
On tryng to open Premiere CC projects it would appear I am missing a substantial set of sequence presets and cannot open any projects. if I open a new project there are only a limited set available.
I get the following error message "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type".
I’m trying to take several layers from a group, merge them, and export them into jpgs, then move on to the next layer group. Saving all the files in a new directory called "images" My layers are organized into groups, I’d also like to be able to have the script ignore layers that end with a specific character (or some other tag)

This one exports the top visible layer(s) as a jpg with the same filename as the .PSD
deleting watermarks from Lightroom 4. I had a bunch of watermarks that I had created in LR4 that was a result of trying to redo a previously created watermark (why Adobe don't allow you to overwrite I don't know) but instead of overwriting the currently selected watermark LR4 lets you create a new preset from the changes. These changes build up over time and you sometimes end up with missing or moved files. If these graphic files are missing then you may or may not have ran into my dilema where when you select the watermark to try and delete it, the dialog box just keeps disappearing and nothing you do seem to work. Don't dispear, here is a solution I've discovered that I couldn't find anywhere else.
1. Open LR4 (Not sure if this works with other versions)
2. Select the Print module (this seem to be the fastest, easiest way to access and edit watermarks)
3. Select the check box next to the watermark under the "Page" pane on the right (this will allow you to select and edit the individual watermarks)
4. select the dropdown menu and chose the watermark that you want to edit. The dialog bot will open but beware it will quickly vanish in a couple seconds so here is my solution (at least until Adobe fixes this problem). Grab hold of the dialog box before it closes and hold it for a few seconds, this will delay or stop it from closing instantaneously.
5. Select the dropdown menu within the dialog box and chose delete watermark option, confirm that you want to delete and voila!
I am using Photoshop CS6 and if I have nested layer groups whose depth is greater than 5 I get the following error message. "This document contains nested layer groups that may change in appearance if opened in applications older than Photoshop CS6".
I can click on "don't show this message again" before pressing ok, but can i disable it from showing somewhere in the application settings? I want to enable it sometimes and sometimes not.
- The "Reset All Warning Dialogs" button from Edit - Preferences - General is not very usefull because I want to keep other messages' settings, only this one should be affected.
I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.
Layer 1: a layer style and a filter effect, stacked
I'm using a clipping mask on a layer. The base layer that the clipping mask is referencing has a layer effect applied (in this case an inner shadow). I want to make it so the layer effect is only applied to the base layer and NOT the clipped layers.
Below is an example of what I'm talking about. as you can see, layer 1 has the base layer's inner shadow applied to it. I want the inner shadow to be hidden by Layer 1, but the clipping mask to still apply.
I downloaded the trial version yesterday, but I am not able to use any presets, the default ones or some I downloaded. I put the mouse over them and the image in the navigation bar does not change, nor does the picture change if I click on them. How can I make them work?
I use adobe photoshop quite often and one thing that has always been a valuable tool is the ability to create a group or a layer set. Is this possible in GIMP or would I have to obtain a plugin to do this.
