I reset Photoshop's preferences and the specific tool and all tools twice to no effect. Shift works fine to select for a perfect circle or rectangle the option tool is just not working to select from the center.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a relatively new Toshiba Satellite C660-1LD with 2.53 gigahertz Intel Core i3 M 380 with 3892 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory* with onboard Intel(R) HD Graphics.(Processor & Memory details from Belarc Advisor)
I sometimes get a message on load saying that Photoshop cannot find my 3D settings (although my Graphics card has 3D capability), but as I'm not using Photoshop's 3D editing tools, this is no issue to me at present.
why my ellipse tool doesnt work. I used it the other day ( to draw a cirlce, obviously!). I had set the shape to be a fixed size (675 by 700 pixels) and clicked on the canvas to create the shape. This worked fine but when i went to use it again it wouldnt work. It allows me to select the tool and when i click and drag on the canvas a new layer is created but no image appears. I've tried the obviuos; putting the layer on top of all the others, checking the settings (opacity etc) but nothing seems to work.

I use Measure Distance tool.
I do not have the “Select Other” option to choose axis supposedly pop up ofter the preset delay time. Seems like Application Option – General – Selection is responsible for that?
But it is checked to ON as on pic attached. My laptop machine works fine with the same settings.
I bought and downloaded PSE11. However, I don't think I disabled my virusware. It took an especially long time to download and I don't know if it downloaded correctly. My blur tool does not work and my "guided" options are not there. What is the easiest fix- uninstall and remove the serial number then reinstall using same serial number? My question with this is- how many times can I do this, and or is there an easier fix? I have PSE11 and LR4 and I am going back and forth between which one to use. I really need all the options to work from PSE11.

I have already deleted the default settings, but still continues the same.
the marquee select with the rectangular selection is often very limitated. Sometimes I wish to select multiple objects with a "free form", for example drawing the selection area with a polyline tool. Is this possible? I did not find a way to do it with the tool in CorelDraw (X5). Neither did I find solutions in the internet.
There's one tool, that does something very similar: the shap tool with ALT key can be used to select nodes by drawing a free line around the node. This is what I mean, but for objects not node.
I have a pixel image and then a number of objects (lines) drawn on top of the image. I can't seem to marquee select those objects. Whenever I try dragging the select tool (with or without Shift) it grabs the pixel image and moves it. I can marquee select everything including the image but not selected objects that are positioned over the image.

I have the View cube switched off.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I use select object, it never displays the marquee correctly. One of two things will happen.
It will
1. Not even display the marquee at all e.g. I use select object by rectangular selection and the rectangle marquee box is invisible (although I can still select things)
or
2. If the marquee does display it shows it behind the objects, instead of in front of them, as scene in the image below.
I am trying to find out if there is a way to select only the objects within a selection marquee? In AutoCAD you can make a selection window from left to right and only those objects entirely within the window are selected. If you window from right to left all objects that are "crossed" or touched by the window are selected. Is there a similar technique in Illustrator?
Currently I have to select the objects, then go back and hold the shift key to deselect the object I don't want, or put objects on different layers then lock layers to prevent extra objects getting selected.
In AutoCAD, my primary program, you simply draw a selection window, left or right, depending on what your next step would be. No special tools or toggles or thinking ahead, it's just the primary selection process and very intuitive.
I am trying to use the selection tool or the direct selection tool to create a rectangular marquee somewhere within the boundaries of an illustration.
I want to select only those objects that are fully or partially within that marquee.
I can use the lasso to select objects in this way. But if I try to use the selection or direct selection tool, it selects and moves the first object I touch.
I can use the selection tools and begin from outside the image area and create a rectangular marquee of selected objects. But I can't do this if I begin within the image.
After making a selection with either the retangular or eclipse tool, is there a way to go back and edit that selection?

Once I release the mouse button I can see the borders OK, but not while dragging. This makes precision selections difficult. View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to CS2. I have a 266 p4 and 2 gigs of RAM with XP home and Service Pack 2. CS wouldn't install, kept insisting that I enter the original disk, when I had the CS CD already in my computer, so I entered my serial # into my one-month trial and it seemed to work. Every since things have been a bit strange with lots of little, usually unrepeatable incidents. The retangular marquee tool, has been driving me nuts. Often, when I rotate the image slightly to level the horizon, I use the marquee tool and crop command to trim the edges. When I get the dotted line near the margins of the image, the whole screen often goes blank. I have to click the mouse to get the image back and if the dotted line isn't where I want it, I have to start with the tool all over again. Earlier today, when I tried to use the marquee tool, it froze the computer. Cntrl-alt-delete to end program got no response. I had to reboot to recover. Just now I tried to crop after rotating. I outlined the desired area with marquee tool, pulled down the image menu and clicked crop and nothing happened. Sometimes this happens when I work with layers, but I had none this time. I quit and restarted Photoshop. Same problem. Finally, in desperation, I quit CS2 and opened the image with my old PS 5.0 Limited Edition! The marquee tool and crop worked like a champ. My computer is working fine with all the other software except photoshop. This is the most expensive software that I've ever purchase and I'm having lots of problems.

Using CS6 Extanded on a brand new PC made for doing graphics on..running Windows 7 64 bit.
I'd like to create a PS action that starts out with a rectangular marquee selection. (So the first step in the action would be to switch to the rectangular marquee tool and then allow me to make an arbitrary selection).
When I try recording this as an action the selection (location, size) is hard-coded into the action. For other tasks I'd just check the "Toggle dialog on/off" checkbox to force the action to allow me to make my own choices but that doesn't seem possible for the marquee selection tool.
Am I missing something obvious or is this just how things work?
