Photoshop :: CS5 - How To Save Actions That Installed

Feb 22, 2012

I recently upgraded from cs3 to cs5.  I had to reinstall my 3rd party actions into cs5.  They will not save into the actions palette. Everytime I restart cs5 I have to reinstall the actions and this gets tiresome. NEVER had this problem with cs3.

Photoshop :: Save For Web Is Very Slow To Launch (no Suitcase Installed)

Oct 18, 2013

When I hit the save for web menu item it can take 5-30 seconds for the dialog box to launch (cs6). Seems that cs6 is doing some heavy disk activity but not sure what its actually writing or doing but I have a fast machine with lots of memory and plenty of CPU yet I get these VERY long delays. All I can find on this problem is that people had suitcase instaslled and I do not. So how I determine what is going on so I can stop this.

Photoshop :: Actions And Save For Web

Jul 24, 2012

I use the "Optimize to file size" feature in the Save For Web Panel constantly. I am planning on doing a large amount of conversions in the near future (by which I mean resaving .jpegs at a certain dimension and resolution. As far as the dimension and resolution go, there is no difficulty creating an action to do that. But the icing on the cake for me is have them all processed through Save for Web at a certain file size (for the sake of argument, say 500K). Yes, I know that the resulting images will vary in quality (obviously) because the end result will very much depend on their file size to begin with but that is not an issue for me for my purposes.

Save for Web has various presets and allows you to save presets; however, it does not allow you to save the Optimize to file size as a preset. When I try to record an action, and go to the Save for Web, use the Optimize etcetera, the action created lists the quality of the image I process to record the action. So, for example, if my image is less than 500K, the quality recorded in the action is 100. If my image exceeds 500K, the quality might be 86 and that is what the action records. For whatever reason, what is recorded is the quality rather than the 500K. I am not sure if this is being written clearly enough to explain. I want every image to end up being 500K regardless of what the final quality is (quality being the difference between the original image and the image as saved by Save for Web). But actions are saving the attribute of quality rather than file size.

Photoshop :: CS3 Actions Won't Save

Jan 14, 2009

to create actions in PS.

Unfortunately, when I've created an action on my desktop computer, the action lasts for the session only and is not there when I restart PS. I've done this several times, and the result is always the same. The actions remain for the session and work fine, but disappear after a restart.

This doesn't happen on my backup copy on a laptop, but I do my PS work on a desktop and it's a problem.

Photoshop :: How To Save Actions From Exchange Going

Feb 25, 2009

I downloaded quite a few actions from Adobe exchange. When I did, I got the choice to either put them in a folder or open them in CS3. Many I just clicked to open in CS3. It was more time efficient. However, there are many of them, and I was looking specifically for a cartoon effect (which I don't use very often--special project) However, while I was looking, I found many other interesting actions. Anyway, I would like to clean up the actions area and bring up only the ones I use all the time. Generally I hit clear actions or reset actions and then I bring back in the ones I want. I'm afraid to do this because these actions are not listed in the actions folder. What will happen to them? Will they go away? There are quite a few of them, and I don't want to have to redownload them. Since they are not listed in the actions folder, how can I get them listed and make sure that I can access them again?

I have tried creating a set to move them into. That didn't work. I tried highlighting all of them to put in a set. That didn't work. If they are selected, the flyout menu save actions in grayed out. How do I get them into the action folder?

Photoshop :: Can Actions Auto Save?

Nov 13, 2006

I have an action that I created that reduces color saturation in JPEGS. I want to run this action with a batch, but every time I do, the batch pauses with the JPEG Options dialog (where you choose image quality).

Is there a way to automate that step of the process? Because I just want to save it on the highest quality setting for each picture.

I have over 1000 pictures to run this batch on, and I'm hoping there's a way to automate the JPEG options dialog box.

Photoshop :: Can't Save For Web In Specific Folder Using Actions?

Apr 30, 2013

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to save in a specific folder desitnations when using Actions and Saving For Web with CS6 PS for Windows. It ALWAYS defaults to last folder used. I am not Batch Processing, just using Actions on one image at a time. I have 3 of these actions.

Action one is for "Thumbnail" folder, Action two is for "Full" folder, and Action three is for "Large" folder. All these actions are doing is saving for web into these folders (path displays correctly in Action script). HOWEVER after I successfully  use Action one and save into the Thumbnail folder and move on to Action 2, it wants to save back into Thumbnail AND NOT into Full folder. In short I now have 3 actions saving to the same folder even though my recording designated 3 different locations.

Photoshop :: Actions Save As For Individual Layers

Aug 25, 2012

how to make an action that can export individual layers within a PS document and rename each layers in the process.

I have set up a 320 x 180px canvas and have 'Placed' in about 20 images that all need to be exported with the Save for Web option.

Problem is, when I set the action to Save for Web and choose the destination, Photoshop names my newly exported image as the document's title (for example, 320x180_Canvas.jpg). But as soon as I try to make it move on to the next layer, it will automatically replace the first exported image with the new one, renaming it the same way, and so on and so on for the next 2 layers...

So essentially, I can only export one layer at a time - unless I make an action to Save for Web for individual documents and not layers (so instead of having one document with 20 layers, I have 20 documents with one layer)...

I must be missing a crucial point here.

Photoshop :: Brushes Won't Work With Actions Such As Save Dress Ying-Yang Or Foundation

Nov 17, 2012

When I try to use my brushes with actions in Photoshop, such as Save the Dress, Ying-Yang, or Foundation, they won't work.  I've tried resetting the brushes, changing the opacity, restarting the program, and unlocking the layers.  It was working perfectly, but suddenly just stopped.  When I click on the image, it doesn't do anything.  There is also a small black box next to the action the I am using in the history box.  When my brushes were working, that box would show in white where I used the brushes on my pictures, but now it doesn't register anything that I try to do.

Photoshop :: Actions Stopped Working After Downloading More Actions

Aug 31, 2004

I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).

Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.

I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.

I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.

I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.

one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.

However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.

I had problems with the download manager too in that after signing into it with my account the download did not immediately start and instead I had to select Photoshop CS6 from the list within the manager.
