Photoshop :: CS4 Installation Blocks At System...
Dec 21, 2008
I use an HP computer, 2.4 Mb RAM, Windows XP SP3.
I installed a trial version of CS4, but had to uninstall because of an error message when I opened an image. Since then I have downloaded the CS4 trial version twice, but can't install anymore. It stops at 90% of system verification, after which nothing happens. I switched off the anti virus and firewall. I cleaned with CC cleaner and Registry mechanic. After the installation programme blocks I find CS4 in the list of installed appliances, even though it is not installed. I can't get rid of it through the Windows uninstaller. I have to use Revo uininstaller.

Although Adobe only supports PS installation on Windows XP or Vista, is there a way to get it installed on a Windows 2003 Server operating system?

I currently have 2007 installed on my computer and we just upgraded 2 of our seats to 2013. Can I install 2013 and still have 2007 on the computer? Will that screw up running either one? Will they conflict each other? I will eventually uninstall the 2007 version, but want to get 2013 up and running quickly.

I'm installing PS CS4 on Visat 64-bit. The first time I tried installing it the setup stopped when it was loading the Language pack for Device Central. I started the installation over again and removed Device central from the install and then started it again. This time it got almost to the end of install but it then stopped again when it was trying to install the Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack_x64.
Has anyone else loading CS4 had this problem in Vista 64-bit?

We have a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 2 installed on one computer that was recently hit with a trojan. The software is still on drive D and is intact. The software was activated a long time ago. Drive C had to be reformatted and the OS reinstalled because of the trojan. I'm trying to reinstall the software since the old registry is gone. I was just going to reinstall over the old version. Since this is an upgrade, it wants the Photoshop 5 CD. We don't know where this is, but we do have the old serial number. When we installed this a few years ago an Adobe tech had us enter a secret keystroke that brought up a box that we could enter the old serial number. I don't remember this keystroke. Q1: Does anyone know the keystroke to enter the old serial number instead of having it search for the CD? Assuming I can enter the old serial number and get past this screen, will a reinstall trash the activation? I do not want to re-activate the product since I assume it will not let me do so. The software was installed and activated on this desktop and on my laptop. I assume it will only let you activate twice. The activation directories are there along with the DAT files, howver. Q2: What can I do to preserve the current activation? And no I can't follow the instructions which would be to launch Photoshop and go to the Help menu and choose Help > Transfer Activation. I can launch Photoshop, but I get an error ""Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit." The old registry is gone since the OS was reinstalled.

I have just obtained Adobe Design Premium CS4 for Windows.
I currently have CS installed. I have lots of additions to Photoshop
(e.g., filters, and many brushes, CSH, textures, etc). What is the
best way to upgrade to CS4?
(1) Delete existing CS2 then install CS4? I prefer this to get a clean
install but do not wish to loose any of my additions.
(2) Install CS4, assuming that it automatically delete old version,
preserve customizations, and install the new version?

After installing CS4, shortly after its introduction, everything went well, sort of. The GPU feature wouldn't work with my older graphics card, I think. At least it wasn't one of the tested/supported cards.
Then, my D drive (storage and scratch), started not being seen, intermittently. After alternating the cables and moving the drive, to test it, with help, we determined the mobo might be the culprit. Anyway, I decided to do an overhaul, and upgrade my pc.
With the first re-install of Windows, using a quick format, Windows fought us, and Photoshop took 4, count'em FOUR tries to install.
After a week processing pictures, and fighting the occasional crash, which had never happened to me before, and the issues mentioned by others regarding GPU, etc., I decided to do it all again.
Did a full format of C, re-installed Windows, smooth as a baby's.....well, you know.
All running smoothly, so far.... fingers crossed, toes crossed, etc, etc.:)
Before the re-build, I cloned the C drive, as everyone says to do, after de-activating both CS3 & CS4. (BTW, I only installed CS4 on the 'new machine'. Before the 2nd go round and full format, I cloned the C again, to a different folder, both times on the D drive.
Now I'm ready to re-install PS. My questions:
Should I do anything with the cloned folder(s) on the D drive beforehand?
Should I do only CS3 and wait for anticipated patches for CS4? (CS3 always ran smoothly, never crashed, etc.)Or go ahead and install both?
Are there any elements of CS4 I should NOT choose to install?
If a clean install of CS4 occurs, with no hiccups, that is, am I likely to have fewer issues than the first time?
Are there any other issues I should be aware of, or things I should do?
As you probably can tell, I'm soooo not a computer person.
my new system has EVGA 750i SLI mobo, 9800 GTX+ graphics card, Intel core2 quad Q6600 processor, 4 GB OCZ Reaper 1066 memory, 600 w power supply, WinXP pro, 32 bit.

I had photoshop cs2 9.0 ((with imageready and bridge)) installed on my old windows XP computer and it's program size came up to 250 something MB. I recently got a new Vista computer and downloaded Photoshop CS2 tryout ((file size 362 MB)) and put in my old serial number and everything and it installed//activated online just fine. BUT the size of the installed program is now mammoth and much bigger! I checked it in the programs list in control panel and it comes up to a whooping 7.62 GB in size o___O;;
I just wondered what accounts for the significant increase in size as it's the same version I had before. I guess I'm just wanting to know if this is normal? Does it have anything to do with the settings i chose when installing the software? x____X;; sorry again if this is the wrong place to post this, I just don't know who//where to ask.

The estimated time steadily increases to >5hrs! but makes no progress. I uninstalled CS6 and tried reinstalling but had same problem I assume this is a bug? My browser is IE9 and DSL.

Currently, Adobe CS2 are installed on two XP computers (a- and b- computers). I want to install it onto the new Vista computer. What I want to do is to deactivate CS2 on one XP computer (i.e., a-computer), and then install CS2 on the Vista computer and then activate CS2. I don't see any problem for doing that.

I tried to install Photoshop CS4 (testversion, from the internet) but after installation I can't open it (I deliberately installed Winzip12 for it, but every time I try to open it there's just a long list of items---). What do I have to do here? I've got a brand new Toshiba notebook, and XP Professional and everything else just works fine..
