The color swatches in the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS4 do not change to the used swatches for the indexed image, rather they show the default colors for Photoshop. I looked to see if there was a setting to show the colors in use, but alas there is none. Is this a feature or a bug?
why the size on disk of uncompressed indexed color images is always slightly larger than you expect it to be? For example, a 100x100 pixel image, 4 bit indexed image with a 2 color palette: the file size should be 5,000 bytes (4 bits for each of 10,000 pixels) plus 6 extra for the two colors in the CLUT - i.e. 5006 bytes. Yet the actual size is 5,268 - not a figure that squares with any size of palette! Ditto a 200x200 image, 8 bit colour: 40,000 bytes. Plus a full 256 colour CLUT at 3 bytes each, an extra 768. total size 40,768. on disk it is 41,080 bytes - an extra 112 bytes.
This is on a PC - not a Mac 'resource fork' issue. Is there some additional header info that Photoshop attaches to indexed color images -
I designed a UI for a small screen device. The assets need to be exported now, with 256Â and also 1024 indexed colours.I have never heard about 1024 color pallete. How can I do it?
I was quite surprised this image I found was an indexed color profile... when I was new (and dumb) to Gimp and images in general I used to save transparent gifs rather than transparent pngs... because I didn't know PNGs could be transparent but Gimp would warn me about that it would convert to indexed and I'd lose A LOT of color & clarity... none of my indexed images were very clear nor this colorful... how is it possible to obtain such color and clarity in an indexed color profile like in the image attached?
I have been having a problem with Gimp. I am currently working on a Gif banner for a webpage. The banner itself is 728x90 pixels. It has 186 different layes as well, some of which are inside of folders. The xcf itself is complete, but the only other stage I need to complete is converting it to Indexed colors so I can export it as a gif; however, whenever i access the Image>Mode tab, the "Indexed" button isn't highlighted, and I am unable to click on it, even with the keyboard commands. I haven't been able to find a solution so far. Here's a picture of the problem.
I have a great picture of Jet Jaguar. I'm interested in pixel art, so I reduced the colors to an indexed 16 colors. Â Â Â I want to save the 16 colors in this pic to a palette for later, but how? I've been looking in vain through the menus for a way to save this color map as a palette. Maybe there's a script or plugin somewhere, but it is hard for me to believe there isn't a built-in way to do this.
I am having trouble with the Color Table in Photoshop. Basically I have an indexed PNG-8 file with 8 colors, and I want to export it's palette to a .ACT or .PAL file.
But when I go to "Save..." in Image/Mode/Color Table, Photoshop seems to be filling up the rest of the palette all the way to 256 colors, with shades of gray... instead of ONLY the 8 colors I have in my PNG (including transparency).
I installed Photoshop Elements 10 on my new iMac (previously installed on my older imac). After installing the software and launching the organizer, it asked me to index my photos. Custom reindexing 11000 plus photos is not a pleasant thought. How do I find my old index, either on my new mac or on my time machine backup?
I'm creating a little icon to be used on another site (entering a contest), and they mentioned something about needing to be "indexed .pngs" to be compatible with recolors and palettes.
I created a new palette in gimp using my original RGB image (containing shades of yellow and black) which gave me about ~200 colors (with interval=2 in Import dialog). Then I changed the mode from RGB to Indexed using the palette I created above, but the resulting image contains only 2 colors - black and yellow. All the dark-greys, light-greys and different yellows are absent.
I want my indexed image to resemble the RGB as much as possible but the result looks disastrous.
i just started using gimp on ubuntu 13.10 . almost half of the menu items are greyed out. most of the filters work or ar not greyed out, g'mic is greyed out and so is most of the stuff in the file menu (export, save, save as, etc.) . i already tried re-installing gimp from the software center with no prevail. this is how it was the first time i installed it on this new ubuntu 13.10 .
is there something that i can do to maybe refresh the entire gimp folder maybe? maybe delete it then re-install gimp. i really dont know if this would fix anything though.
this is really irritating. and no its not the "image RGB/indexed mode" problem.
im pretty sure i dont have anything installed (like some weird ubuntu restricted access fake file) that could interfere with the interface at all as this is a pretty fresh installation. the most i have installed that might even be close to interfering with the interface is "pipelight" which is for flash and silverlight, not gimp.
i even tried different color profiles and none of them work. i even downloaded the brand new color profiles from adobe. none of those work either.
the only way i got ALL of the menu options back, including g'mic, was opening gimp through raw therapee (basically adobe lightroom for ubuntu) which might be of some use in finding an answer to this?
i already have everything i need installed including the ubuntu restricted access extras and such.i just would like gimp to open normally with all the normal file menu options enabled like everyone elses and not be all greyed out ..
Is there a way to apply a color to selected objects without having to search for the color in the color palette. So say if I am working with an image that has multiple colors but want to use only one of the colors in that image, is there a way to apply it without having to create or add it to the palette.
I'm about 3 months and many hours of tutorials into Premiere ProCC, Audition CC, and Encore CS6. Apparently the nifty dynamic links from PPro and Audition CS6 no longer work with encore, as encore was not upgraded to CC. So,
I want to sample color from an original Photoshop image, and create an Encore menu color set, so that my menu buttons, etc. are colored to match the main photo image in the menu. Is there an eyedropper kind of tool in Encore that would let me sample the color from the image, and then apply that to color swatches in the Encore button layers?
Error message in the opening of Photoshop CS6. " Impossible to synchronize the regulations of color, because the file of parameters of color is untraceable ". Computor with Vista SP2
I have a PSD file open and I added a new layer via the copy command. I have added a Layer Mask to the new layer and I'm trying to use the Brush Tool with black forground to cover part of the new layer. I'm following an online tutorial step by step, but when I try to use the Brush Tool I get "could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode". The Image>Mode is set to RGB.Â
--Toolbox: The 2 columns of Tools on the left side of the Editor screen.
--Foreground Color & Background Color: The color filled squares at the bottom of the Toolbox.
--Color dialogue box: This is the pop-up that is labeled at the top with "Color". It shows 48 different color squares (6 rows by 8 columns); they are labeled "Basic colors:". Right below the "Basic colors:" array is another 16 empty squares (2 rows by 8 columns) to be filled with colors to be defined. There is a "Define Custom Colors>>" button when clicked opens up a color picker with HSB RGB stacked below the color field screen. See this link to the Microsoft "Color Dialogue Box", [URL]
--Adobe Color Picker: The interactive dialogue box with the color field screen to the left and the HSB RGB numbers stacked on the right side.

The problem:In PSE 10, when using the Eyedropper Tool or clicking on the Foreground Color or the Background Color, the Microsoft Microsoft "Color Dialogue Box" pops up instead of the "Adobe Color Picker" dialogue box. This started about a month ago. I use Windows 7. Â I want the "Adobe Color Picker" to pop up (like it used to) inside PSE 10.
I have a photo of a painting that was taken with Kodak color checker patches on one corner. It looks like I need to adjust the colors in Photoshop.
I want to use the color checker as a reference to correct the overall image color and contrast. However, I don't know how to use it as I have never worked with color checker patches before.
how to color correct the image on photoshop?
I am attaching a cropped sample image. The original image is in RGB. The colors on the Kodak patch as follows: Blue, Cyan, Gree, Yellow, Red, Magenta, White, 3/Color, Black.
To create a special effect (but not TOO garish!) I'd like to change this brownish meadow so that it looks much more like one of the swatches from my color swatches panel.  Do I need to create a new adjustment layer, or are there other approaches? Below is a screen shot.
I have alot of paper that I want to reduce & eliminate, I have a bunch of certificates, magazine/newspaper clippings that I have from high school & college to scan & would like to know what color settings would be best. Â I also have a bunch of brochures, other odd papers, receipts, & handwritten notes. Â I am using an Epson perfection photo 4490 flatbed scanner, on a mac running lion 10.7.5. Â I would also like to know what would be the best resolution to use. Â I read a little about bit depth, & from what I gather, the human eye can only see so many colors, & going with bigger color depths is good where one has to do alot of editing. Â most of these items are for records & archives, & maybe to be able to print from the scans, so I can throw out some of my paper. Also, when I scan in Adobe RGB, would it be best to use 48 bit depth to go with the fuller color? & when I use sRGB use 24 bit depth?
if you look at the image attached the colours on the right are what the color picker is displaying and if I use that hex code thats the colour the web page displays, but if i fill in any element the colours circled on the left are shown in photoshop. Â Why is the color picker window showing a different color to the whats displayed?
I'm assuming this problem I'm having stems from having color-calibrated monitors, but let me know if I'm wrong! Â To preface, this is the setup I have:
Windows 73 monitors as follows, all have individual color profiles calibrated using the Spyder 3Cintiq 12WX Dell U2410Dell 2409WFPPhotoshop CS6 - Proofed with Monitor RGB, and tested with color-managed and non-color-managed documents . I usually do most of my work on the Cintiq 12WX, but pull the Photoshop window to my main monitor to do large previews and some corrections. I noticed that the color picker wouldn't pick colors consistently depending on the monitor the Photoshop window is on.  Here are some video examples:
This is how the color picker works on my Dell U2410:

This is how it works on my Cintiq 12WX:
[URL]......... Â Main Question
I know the Cintiq's video capture makes the picture look more saturated than the Dell's, but it actually looks fine physically, which is okay. But notice how the Cintiq's colour picker doesn't pick a matching colour. It was actually happening the opposite way for a while (Dell was off, Cintiq was fine), but it magically swapped while I was trying to figure out what was going on. Â Semi-related Question regarding Color Management
Color management has always been the elephant-in-the-room for me when I first tried to calibrate my monitors with a Spyder colourimeter years ago. My monitors looked great, but Photoshop's colors became unpredictable and I decided to abandon the idea of calibrating my monitors for years until recently. I decided to give it another chance and follow some tutorials and articles in an attempt to keep my colors consistent across Photoshop and web browsers, at least. I've been proofing against monitor color and exporting for web without an attached profile to keep pictures looking good on web browsers. However, pictures exported as such will look horrible when uploaded to Facebook. Uploading pictures with an attached color profile makes it look good on Facebook. This has forced me to export 2 versions of a picture, one with an attached color profile and one without, each time I want to share it across different platform. Is there no way to fix this issue?  Pictures viewed in Windows Photo Viewer are also off-color, but I think that's because it's not color managed... but that's a lesser concern.
I have a colored object, and I have a specific swatch of color that I need to change the current color of the object to. The problem I'm having is that the specific color that I'm trying to apply to the object doesn't look integrated with the object itself, it just looks like I've applied a color film over it. It's milky-looking and there's not enough contrast. I've tried adjusting levels, using different blending modes, using the Match Color command ..I can't seem to keep the integrity of the color I'm applying to the object, while still keeping the integrity of the details of the object itself. How should I tackle this using multiple layers and blending modes, and so the new color looks integrated and believable?
The project is a photo montage. It was 4-color, now must become 2 colors. So I've changed each of the original 4-color photos (jpg and eps) into separate psd files (as grayscale/duotone/montage-and assigned it One pantone color)  In a new psd "montage" file, I plan to place each photo on its own layer, adjust tints, transparency, etc, to create one new montage/flattened.I'm not sure which color mode is best when setting up this new file, CMYK or grayscale?  Once the PS doc is done, the job will be saved as a PDF for 2-color printing.I want to insure the 2 pantone colors separate properly at press.
I'm using this tool in CS4 on an image with a transparent background. When I set the foreground color to R165 G165 B165 and apply, the resultant color on my image is R64 G64 B64.
You know how when you're painting, you can hold ALT and it will pick a colour from the canvas? Well, for some reason, mine still picks up the colour but it sets it to the background colour instead of the foreground colour.
And when I actually select the colour picker tool, it will only select the background colour but when I hold Alt, it selects the foreground colour. Basically it's flipped where it's supposed to select.
When I have any kind of layer, and I want to change the foreign or background color (with the color picker) I just cant. When I click on the foreign or background color it automatically selects the eyedropper tool, and I don't want this to happen.
Why when I use green for foreground color and go to Fill and use the option of Foreground color the selection is filled with black? Also why when I open a file with a green square, it also turns to black? And since I am asking questions, how do I get back the ability to get content and search within photoshop, instead of always being directed to Adobe online? I am using CS5.
A while back I saw a video about using the video editing capabilities. In particular the video showed a car with a colored sheet over it and the in the video the sheet was either pulled off the car or the car moved out from under the sheet (I cant remember which). Then the video showed how to use the color replace tool to change the color of the sheet throughout the entire video.
