Apr 7, 2008just set up a new computer -Vista Ultimate 64 bit and cannot get the spacebar to work as a hand tool in Photoshop.

Photoshop :: Shift To Hand Tool With Space Bar
Nov 29, 2013I have Photoshop CC on a Mac running Mavericks, 16 gb memory. While working on an image, the space bar stopped calling up the hand tool while depressed. I tried quitting Photoshop, no good. I tried restarting computer, it worked, for a little while, then went away again. This a Photoshop issue, and how do I fix it? Or is it a Mac issue?

Mar 6, 2014I needed to reinstall CS5 and now I can no longer use the spacebar to temporarily get the hand tool. Same problem in Photoshop.

Jan 15, 2013I have loaded Photoshop 10 onto my Win 7 SP1 PC, and it seems to work fine, but when I load an image and zoom in until it exceeds the window size, then try to move the image around with the scroll bars, nothing happens. Since I am using the crop tool, when I depress the Spacebar and use the Hand Tool to move the image, then release the spacebar, THEN the scrollbars start working as they should. Loading another image starts this process all over again. Is there something I can do so that Photoshop 10 always allows Scrollbars to function on a newly opened image?

Nov 18, 2012Firstly, I cant get the reset preferences window to appear, as isntructed, by holding ctrl/alt/shift down and opening the application - I just get the details of the shortcut. tried on the actual.exe file and still dont get the window as described.
secondly, the hand tool does not seem to work? I select it, the 4 options appear in the tool bar above and the little hand Icon, but clicking and dragging on the file in the open window, has no effect, I cant move the file around the window as I supposed to be able to do.

May 22, 2012I've just installed the adobe illustrator CS5 on my mac os X Lion 10.7 and now when I open an .ai document or try to create a new one The only tool I can use is the hand tool. When I try to click on another one the hand comes back automatically when the mouse is on the document.

May 15, 2010Today, all of a sudden, two of my most used functions—holding down the space bar to move the image around and holding down CMD-space bar to zoom—just up and quit on me (I do like the "Scrubby" but it took a little getting used to. It's very touch screen-esque).
I did all of the normal trouble shooting such as deleting the prefs, relaunching, restarting, etc. Nothing. The functions work fine in the other CS5 programs.
I checked through all of the prefs thinking that perhaps I accidentally changed something but I couldn't find anything. If all else fails, I'll do an uninstall/reinstall but only as a last resort.
I did notice that Adobe finally fixed the Distort (in Full Screen Mode) bug that was killing me in CS4.

Apr 4, 2012[URL] Bug is where the Hand move (by holding down Space bar and dragging) stops working. Issue appears to be a conflict with web browsers.
This bug is still present in Photoshop version 12.1 (CS 5). I don't use Firefox, I use Safari and Chrome. Quitting Safari did not fix the problem. Quitting Chrome DID fix the problem.

Feb 7, 2007Whenever i open up photoshop or illustrator itll work fine sometimes and sometimes it wont work at all. Illustrator sometimes gives me the msg "Could not request ..." and when I click on New image it doesnt display all the options. Itll leave out the OK and CANCEL buttons and several other options sometimes. And sometimes Ill be able to create a file but i cant save... And sometimes when all this is happening I cant open any new windows on my computer and cant do any tasks at all on my pc..
other times when i think it works perfectly some of the options for different tools wont work at all...

Sep 7, 2012In Indesign CS6 using Mountain Lion, the hand tool appears and I can't select or work with any other tool. All I can do is move the document around. After trying the space bar and other key commands I restarted and it worked for a while. Then it happened again. I work on a Macbook pro, so when I removed the mouse and worked only with the trackpad there was no change. When I quit and reopened, no change. I then deleted prefs and restarted and it worked, but it's been happening from time to time. Any other fix without restarting or deleting prefs.

Oct 31, 2008i have recently upgraded my computer with a new mb, 8gb ram, clean install of vista 64 bit and cs4. after initial problems with screen lag i installed a new graphics card and all seems to be working fine. problem is using the hand tool. i was accustomed in cs3 to comparing two files side by side, let's say the same image with two different levels of sharpening. i was able to view both images at 100% and using the hand tool move each image independently. this made comparing particular areas of the images easy. in cs4 when i open two images and use the hand tool it moves both images at the same time.
