Dec 1, 2006I try to select and move a layer using the Move Tool, another layer is immediately selected and moved instead.
Also, if I have layers inside a folder and try to move one of those layers, the entire folder is selected and all layers within that folder move.
I have not grouped any layers together.

Jan 14, 2013I am using the trial version of CS5 (probably going to upgrade at the end of the trial), and I've only found one thing about it that I don't like more than CS3. This is VERY VERY annoying, and I'm not sure if it's a glitch, or just a preference that needs to be reset:
When using the move tool, I will move something and it will just snap back to where it originally was. When it snaps back, it might move a few pixels over in the direction I was dragging, but it is definitely not moving to where I want it to go. The only way to get things to move the way I want to is by Free Transform...but it's annoying, when you're trying to design a layout, to have to free transform every element you want to move, first.
I'm guessing that this is a glitch because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't...it's pretty random. I've tried turning Snap on and off, and nothing changes.

If I presses and hold the Alt key I see the cursor change from the current tool to the eyedropper tool. If I press and hold both the Ctrl+Alt keys a see a cursor icon change to an icon that has two up pointing Arrow heads one Black the other White. What tool is that cursor for? It seems to copy and move the current layer and move its position over the canvas.

Apr 9, 2009I started learning Photoshop CS4 about a month ago. One of the first things I learned was to add text. Simple, fun. I am now trying to learn about layer masks. One of the exercises in one of my books is to open an image and then add text to it. (The idea is to then add a mask and 'hide' portions of the text behind portions of the image.) A really strange thing is happening when I try to add text. I highlight the image in the layers column. (Prior to adding any mask layers.) I then click the text tool. But when I click on the image (in the area where I want the text), the text tool 'becomes' a move tool. A text layer pops up and the words I'm trying to type on the image come out in the title area for the layer (in the layers column). I've tried everything I can think of to 'get' the text on the image but can't solve it.

My dad organized the hard drive in very vague categories (things like I:/photos/spring 2004/spring 2004 - 1. We are looking to change the folder structure to one that is easier to navigate (I:/photos/vacations/new york city 2003)We are trying to avoid loosing tags in the organizer.
I tried File -> Move with some of the photos. In one instance, it took the originals and moved them. In another it renamed the photos and copied them to their new destination.Should we go back and delete the originals once they are moved to their new location?
Photoshop :: CC Crashing On Move Tool?
Nov 25, 2013I try to use photoshop CC and it crashed EVERY single time I click the move tool, no matter what document I have open. I haven't been able to do much else with it to see if it crashes in other places or not. It crashes on both the 64 bit and 32 bit version.
I have windows 7, 64 bit. I have an AMDHD 7700 graphics card and I also use the integrated Intel 2500 graphics for more monitors.
I have 16gb of ram. I have just updated both of my video card drivers to try and correct the problem, but it has not fixed the problem.
I also get the "Photoshop has detected an error in your display driver" when I go into the performance tab in preferences.

Dec 14, 2008when I go to choose the move tool and I'm on a specific layer that I want to move, I left click like I've always done for years to move it on the canvas and and instead of having that one layer move (on the canvas, not on layers window) it picks up the root group and moves everything. The highlighted (selected) layer also turns to the outer (root) group folder, instead of staying on that layer.

Jul 7, 2011Normally when I hit move or copy there cursor will change to a square and I can click single items for the command. If I enter "c" on the command line and change to the cross cursor I can select multiple objects by clicking and dragging.
In some drawing the cursor will not change to a square and I can not enter "c" on the command line. I can select single objects but the cursor becomes the standard windows arrow.
Is there a setting / variable in the drawing that can affect this?
Lightroom :: Develop Work In Migration And Catalog Move
Jul 28, 2013I re-organized my PC. Now, I have all of my photos on my "C" drive. They used to be on another drive. After importing from my old catalog, I lost all of my develop work. My photos are all unchanged from when I imported them as raw files from my camera.Here are the steps that I did:
1. Export the 3.4.1 catalog
2. Format the hard drive and re-install Windows
3. Install a fresh version of Lightroom 4.4
4. Import from my 3.4.1 catalog ("Import from another catalog")

Photoshop :: Space Bar / Move Tool Is Not Working In CS6 (Win 7)
May 28, 2012My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit & Radeon graphics card. I have been having trouble with my space bar. This is what I've been doing...
New Layer > Ellipse tool > Draw a cirlce > Duplicate Layer > (reselect) Ellipse tool > select the Subtract Front Shape < this is where I need to use the space bar so that I can center the new circle (inside) so that I have a nice border that's evenly spaced around the entire circumference.
However, when I go to hold down the space bar so that I can use my mouse pad to move the circle around it will not move and the hand icon does not appear. The box that contains the H/height & W/width gains the X & Y information. However, intermittently the hand icon will appear but even when it is present I still cannot move anything. When the hand icon does intermittently appear I have not changed anything.
I have checked to make certain that my mouse pad doesn't have any sort of setting(s) that would prevent the mouse pad action when a key is being pressed ~ at least to the best of my rather newbie experience.
I have read that some have had problems with CS5 regarding this same matter but their issue was resolved simply by closing whatever browser they had open concurrently (with Ps). I tried this but it did not resolve my problem.
I had used the Beta of CS6 and it worked just fine which I find rather odd. I reset the preferences by hitting Shift+Alt+Ctrl and that also did not work. Also, if you don't know how I could go about resolving this issue do you know of an other way in which I would be able to move the circle when the Subtract Front Shape is in use? I have tried making the new circle and then just using the Move tool at the top of the tools bar.
Photoshop :: Why Won't Move Tool Snap Objects
Dec 4, 2012Move tool was always snapping objects I'm moving before... What I meant by snap is, for example, I'll move an object right beside the left end of the document, it'll snap. And if ever I want to add a tiny bit of space between those two, I'll hold ctrl so it'll get rid of that 'snap' function.
Since the time I upgraded to CS6 Extended, It was working fine for a while. Until days ago, the problem started occuring. It won't snap anymore.

Oct 29, 2013All of a sudden the Move Tool no longer works. When I try to move an layer on the screen with the Move Tool it moves slightly then jumps back to its original position. The only way I can move a layer at the moment is to use Free Transform, which is not ideal.

Photoshop :: Resizing QR Code With Move Tool
Aug 4, 2013However everytime I try to resize it there is no frame to pul from and with QR codes you have to be careful so you have to depress the Shift key to keep the QR code readable. I can't pull from the corners as there doesn't seem to be a frame around the image to pull the image smaller. Am I missing something here possibly in the settings somewhere.

May 8, 2012Here's my problem
When I try to resize an layer using the move tool (as opposed to the Free Transform tool), while I'm in the process of moving the scaling handles, the bounding box reflects my movement but the layer preview stays at it's original size. When I stop moving the handles there is a few seconds delay and then the new scale size shows up. If I try to move the handles again, without commiting to the transform, the layer preview reverts back to it's original size until I've finished moving the handles.
I didn't have this problem with CS4 and I've only recently upgraded. I work around this problem by using the proper Free Transform tool (ctrl+t) but it would be nice to know why the hell this happens. It seems to me to be more of a graphical glitch than a software preference but I thought I'd check just-in-case.
