View 4 RepliesI have been able to reproduce this lock up consistently using the Lighting Effects, and I can also get it to lock up while using the Lasso tool, and also setting guides, but those are less consistant. I have tried to switch the advanced graphics options around too. It is currently on normal though. I currently have the GeForce Drivers v. 320.14 installed, which at the time of this post is the most recent stable build. I have even gone so far as to try every GeForce driver from 295.73 to 320.14 with no luch at resolution. Some of the drivers let me get a little further with the lighting effects, but still eventually lock up the computer... Currently I have had to uninstall Photoshop and then re-install it just to get PDF export to work right, but even after updating to the newest version of PS, I still get these lockups.
Here are the rest of my specs just in case.

my problem; when I use the filter; 'render'- lighting effects - it will no longer save any styles-(neither mine nor the pre-sets-they are gone).
Have tried reinstalling to different directory, etc but no avail. I can add lights and all during current session, but cannot save when i try, an error message just pops up and says"
"an error occured while trying to save the style"
Just upgraded to CS2 and went to Lighting Effects assuming to find the big drop down menu of styles, but the box is blank and also when I try to save a style I have made, it comes up with an error.
Any ideas where they might have all gone?
it started about a week or so ago but when i tried using the lighting effects filter rather than showing a shadowy gradient effect like it usually does it is either pue blakc or just shwos an unnafected picture and when i play with the lighting rig or change slider settigns like texture for example it flickers back and forth like it's broken
.
but it works perfeclty in CS5 without a hitch.
i tried searching to see if others had a similar problem but all i got was that CS6 either didnt coem with it installed or the app doesnt display correclty. i dont know what to do i dont want to keep goign to an older photoshop just to use it's basic features.
Previously when i use it, it would have a window pop out for me to choose the options... but now i cant...
I am using Windows XP and Photoshop CS2
anyone know the reason why? and what i can do to make the pop out window back so that i can make adjustments?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRender Lighting (and other 3D things) don't work on my laptop. Initially in Preferences Performance, Use Graphics Processor wasn't checked. In that scenario, I didn't get the first message below - just the secind one (not enough memory). I go back to check Use Graphics Processor, and I now get both messages. Under Advanced Settings, Use OpenCL is grayed out. System Info below.

I am working on a model that came with lights and textures but I deleted those to render faster but all I am getting are white and black renders. Can I reset the project to default lighting/render settings without loosing my modeling work?
What I want is to hit the render tab and get the same result as if I just opened max, made a cube and hit render without any special lights or render settings.
Yesterday Ae was working perfectly. Today, Ae will not render compositions in the render queue or in AME? If I try to render from Ae,I get this error message:
and I can fin nothing about this error anywhere on line.
I have not had any problems until I started trying to use a green screen, which has turned out to be a major pain. Ultra key did a good job, but I kept being told the after affects does a better job. My computer is a PC has 32 Gigs of ram a 4 gig video card, I7. I also just downloaded all the latest updates. I imported an AVCHD file after shooting a 30 min lesson on green screen. Had to do a lot of editing to get all put together so there were lots of cuts and I had alot nested sections so I can resize myself with the background to keep the perspective correct. After I had decent success with keying, though I wish it were better, I tried moving each indivdual video clip over to after effects to key in there. It looked like it might have been a little bit better than the using ultrakey.
Anyways, after taking forever to get all these clip edited in after affects, I wanted to export my completed video so I could see how well it worked. I never got the the chance because no matter what I choose under MPG2 it would lock up around 8%. Even when I tried to get to encode a 2min section of the video, it still locks up. The only way to get out of the program is to force it closed. As I searched for answer to this problem, someone suggested holding he shift key down while you open CS6, but that did not work. BTW the same file exports fine as long as I do not send any of the footage to after effect
it would be nice to be able to try and use after affects as well so I can at least see if the final result of the keying is better or not.
I have a problem with the lighting in my scene. My interior is really and I don't know why.I want a smooth clay render but nothing's happened. Is there any way to upload my file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have no lighting effects in the SDK so we've been looking at work around for how to introduce them. Our game takes places on various planets in the solar system. It will be viewed from the top down so the player will be able to see terrain and structures.
The game is going to be compiled mostly using 2D map art and 3D animated models imported as sprite sheets.Because there are no lighting effects we are adding them to the models using the modelling software. All of game maps are being built with a white light. We are instead looking to add a block image canvas with the colour set to that which matches the planet it is set. With the opacity reduced to 25-35% it then gives the map and models the correct light ambience. Before our developer started testing this out in the SDK I used photoshop to come up with the solution. I found that we got the best results when setting the canvas block colour layer to 'soft light'. The only problem is when I export the canvas on its own and send it to our developer it seems to lose the soft light effect.
My question is, is there a way to export the soft light effect? Simply using normal mode and changing the opacity doesn't make the light ambiance look as natural. If you scroll down on the link below you will see two images of the same location. One with the soft light and effect and one with out. URL....
I now have the latest updates to CS6 and Lighting Effects is still not available. It should be in Filters / Render ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use the Filter->Render->lighting effects, the problem is that it is greyed out and I have no idea what I need to do to make it so I can use the effect.
Here is what I have done so far (and it is not much):
New project
Filter->render->clouds (5 times)
Now I want to use the lighting effect.
I'm designing a ticket for the senior prom with photoshop. Basically I have a plain black background, with a layer of text over it.
I'm trying to place three red spotlights on the black. The them for prom is hollywood.
Whenever I go to Filter<Render<Lighting effects, I pick three down or whatever, and make them red. The lights do not show up on the preview though... The dots do, but not the lights. If I pick an omni light it works...but not spotlight or directional. If I hit okay, nothing changes on my ticket.
I've noticed that for the last few images I've tried modifying the lighting with (using Filters>Render>Lighting Effects), that it will not change the bottom row of pixels, for any reason. I've changed the angle of the lighting, and tried all combinations of effects, none of them doing anything to the very bottom row, 1px thick. I can still modify that row myself, and other filters work on it normally, but lighting effects refuses to.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Photoshop CS4 and CS5, it's a real PIA to have to restart PS in 32-bit mode in order to use the Lighting Effects filter (FILTER>RENDER>LIGHTING EFFECTS). Has this been addressed in CS6?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running both PS CC and CS6 on my mac mini (late 2012, 2.3 i7, 16 GB ram). When I try to use the lighting effects filter on CC, it opens, and all the sliders in the properties box work, but without the tools to point and modify the light source. On CS6, lighting effects opens with the expected oval shaped tools and the intensity adjuster. I am assuming that it is not the Mac-mini, as it handles both versions, CC and CS6,Is this a bug in CC? I have searched and found nothing to this effect. I am assuming the video capabilities are adequate as the lighting effects option is not greyed out in either version. Also, I have made sure the image I am working on is in 8 bit mode.
