Photoshop :: Background Of Workplace Is Flickering
Apr 1, 2013
The background of my workplace is flickering (the colour turns from black to grey to transparent etc.) Also if I for example scale a picture the picture turns into black. By clicking the picture it appears again.
Using CS6, version 13.0.1 x64 and Win8 64 bit. Everything updated and latest driver installed
I have installed Photoshop CS6 - but when I attempt to edit anything the image flickers (it flickers to black and back again to the image). The background also flickers (from the grey grid to black and back again.
What would cause this? (Note: the application works, I can save, edit and such, but this flickering is driving me nuts! It only occurs when I attempt to do something to the image.)
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 and I have noticed some graphic glitches in CS6. The background flickering, the image becoming black, etc. After a bit a searching I found some others who were also having the issue. (Here and Here). I have also read the blog post by Jeffrey Tranberry recommending switching to Basic Drawing Mode which does solve the issue, however, by switching to Basic Drawing Mode what am I losing in functionality?
When looking through the PS Preferences I also noticed something interesting. Look at this screenshot: Notice the VRAM? 209310MB! This is one fast video card! Obviously this number is complete incorrect and I wonder if it is tied to the issue above?
Here are my PC Specs: CPU: AMD FX 4100 Quad Core 3.6 Ghz 64bit OS: Windows 8 Pro (Release version - upgraded from Windows 7) RAM: 8GB Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6670 Video Driver: Catalyst 12.10 (Windows 8 compatible driver) Is this a PS issue or an issue within the video card driver and Windows 8? I have not seen other errors in Windows with other programs. (Granted other programs are not using the GPU like PS does.)
I was using CorelDRAW X6 when we had a momentary power outtage. When I rebooted and attempted to reopen Corel I received the following message,
"Valid workplace file not found at path specified."
I uninstalled and reinstalled Corel and still get the same message. I don't know how to fix this. Must I save all existing files on an external drive and use the "Restore" disc to start all over?
if anyone had any clue what might be causing this problem. I recently purchased a new notebook PC, and loaded my old copy of Photoshop 7 onto it. When I open a document and work on it, I get a periodic, very random white flicker on the document. Very frustrating, considering I plan on purchasing CS2 in the next week and don't want to be dealing with this same problem. I was thinking it might be just a glitch in the Photoshop install, yet when I loaded up Corel painter 9,
I'm having a flickering cursor on my CS3 photoshop. This is version 10.0. It disables some functions in PS. I can't type anything in the top bar fields.
I'm trying to draw on CS6 and the screen keeps flickering Black, I've tried to switch off using the graphics card and switching to Basic mode, that hasn't worked.

50% of the time, on loading CS4, the screen flickers as though it is redrawing elements. Happens when selecting tools, menu items or just editing image.
Turning off OpenGL fixes the problem for image editing though screen still flickers/flashes on loading / minimising app.
No other apps on the PC exhibit flashing - even OpenGL ones.
Recently the mouse has started flickering and not lining up with brushes when I'm editing photos in Photoshop CS4. When I use a brush, the mouse arrow will appear, flickering overtop of where the brush point is (the brush point flickers too when I move the mouse) so I can't see what I'm doing exactly. I installed the latest updates of Photoshop CS4 and it didn't work.
When painting with the paintbrush the cursor flickers between the round brush size cursor to an arrowhead. The paintbrush continues painting as it should, but the cursor flickers constantly between the 2. This is a visual annoyance but doesn't seem to affect performance.
I'm on Photoshop CS6 (latest updates) on 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 with OS X 10.6.8.
PS CC Brush flickering to arrow after each stroke. My problem is on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.
As a computer tech, I have tried the tricks I know, and thought I would get on here and see if/what I am missing.
Im running Photoshop CC 64bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, updated using 3 monitors between the nvida and on-board intel graphics. I have also Checked that PS is updated as well.Im on a Intel I3 Sandy with an nvida GTX 550 Ti 9.18.13.2049 (6-21-2013) with 8gigs of ram
I am also using a bamboo Capture (It's all I can afford right now) with the latest drivers (5.3.2.1).I have unplugged the capture and was able to reproduce the problem just using the mouse.
I testing and reproduced the problem on PSD's large and small and jpg's as well.I have also disabled and enabled several options in the tablet and windows tablet settings.
I have reproduced the problem using all 3 monitors in full screen and windowed mode.I have been able to reproduce the problem in most of the settings with in PS CC.
A more detail of the problem is:99% of the time, at the end of a stroke (Pen or mouse) make the windows arrow pointer appear instead of the brush. So, Lets say I make several one direction strokes. If the mouse (Pen) keeps moving after the stroke, the windows arrow cursor will blink on screen. If you to the same thing and end the pen/mouse motion with the stroke the arrow cursor icon will appear and stay there until you move the cursor again.
[URL] screen flicker in Photoshop CS6 when using any of the larger brush type tools (cloning, eraser, brush, spot healing, burning, and dodging). The flicker is screen wide black boxes, sometimes the whole screen goes black. It only seems to happen when we put the cursor over the image to edit.

Looks like a CS6 is not compatible with the new MacAir.

experienced a lot of flickering while using the Fast SSS shader in Mental ray while rendering over the network using back burner? I have two shots here that both have flickering problems, when I send them to multiple machines over the network, If I send them to one machine it seems to be fine.
On the flickering frames it looks like the SSS has been turned off. It made me think its missing a light map or something but I dont know of a way to save the lightmap to a folder on the network.
I'm trying to fix a backburner/3ds max problem that's been plaguing our render farms at work for some time now. I'll give an example of what happened with last nights renders.
I sent a scene off to get rendered, and the footage that comes back has a texture from one of the objects flickering between 2 different versions of the texture. In this case, a normal map on one of the workstations was rendering a slightly older version. I had edited the normal map earlier that day and it was rendering the version of said normal map in the state it was before I editted it. It's not limited to normal maps, just any texture file really. It's also not a GI flicker. We can't seem to pin down the reason why a server or workstation would use what appears to be an outdated texture.
We were hoping our recent transition to a domain based network would fix this but it hasn't. Texture files are packaged and sent with any backburner job, so even if the workstation is has a local, older version of the same texture file, it shouldn't matter.
The OS on the workstations is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and the render servers run Windows 7 server. Rendering with vray 2.0, 3ds max 2012 x64.
Whenever i try to render animation sequence, the bitmap maps on the objects starts to flicker. What should i do to prevent this?
I tried "project points from positions...." in Final Gather. But, that's not the answer, the flickering does not occur because of animation. It is somehow related with JPEG and bitmap rendering.
For example; with no camera movements in the scene, in my animation the JPEG material on the box still flickers.
Recently i have been having a problem with Illustrator CC where while im working the top bar, tools etc will flash once for around a second then go back to normal while im doing this sometimes certain objects will be hard to move because of the flickering this keeps happening while working. Its kind of hard to explain really i have tried reinstalling Illustrator that didn't do anything and also resetting my preference which also didn't do anything. Ive tested other adobe products such as Photoshop which work fine no flickering.
I thought perhaps it could be a graphics card problems but tested a few video games and they run perfectly fine.
I know this is a common problem for beginners in animation, but I made researches about this subject, even reading my book "mastering mental ray", without success.

I have two main problems in my animation
1- Jagged edges (on the neon tube surrounding the decor)
2- flickering of the wireframe shader on buildings and the self-illum greeble reflected on the ground and other surfaces
I tried many settings playing with samples per pixel and filter params and even spatial contrast, and failed to get rid of that. (for example I tried 1/16 or 4/16, even 1/64 with mitchell or gauss filter, etc) (I tried lowering the spatial contrast at 0,01) (I also tried to render at a higher resolution then scaling it down... no success, jagged edges and flickering still present).
I've installed 3ds max 2012 and noticed that when I enter the modify panel of a light in 3ds max 2012, I have an annoying flickering on some of the items in the modify menu of the light, especially the phrase "Incandescent lamp color shift when dimming" flickers all the time, which is very disturbing. And worse, I can't select the option in the Light distribution type roll out menu with my mouse, I have to do it with the arrows on the keyboard, and it flickers when I try to click, and same thing for the shadows type roll out menu.
See pics.
And all of these problems were not in 3ds max 2011? I've already installed the hotfix 1 and sp1 for 2012.
Not all the time, but there are times when i am working on an image, generally after I've been working on it in Photoshop. Once it comes back into light room and I want to do just about anything to it everything goes dark and comes back with the adjustment I just made. Does this when I move the slider or make any adjustment to the image whatsoever.
Occassionaly when editing in LR3 - final, the whole screen flickers off then on very quickly (Less than a second). I've only seen this effect when using lightroom 3, i.e. it doesn't happen at any other time.
System is a no-name PC, with AMD dual core 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit, LR3 64 bit, 4GB ram, ATI Radeon X1200 graphics (On-Board).
Background: I work IT here at a trophy shop and we do a lot of artwork for plaques and acrylic/glass awards. I am versed in IT but not CorelDraw in-particular.
Problem: Occasionally, we have a problem with the font drop-down menu. The artist will attempt to select a new font for a selected text, and the drop-down menu will flicker as you move the cursor over the fonts, and the preview window to the side trails (where you see the old text preview with the new text preview drawn over it) turning off the font preview fixes the issue, but that preview is essential according to my artists.

The cursor (crosshair / mouse) flickers constantly when I am moving the mouse around inside the autocad work space. If I draw a line the flickering gets even worse and it starts to lag slightly. The computer meets all of the recommended requirements as far as I am aware.
The CPU never goes above 45% usage and the RAM never goes past 21% usage. So the computer does not seem to be overloaded especially just trying to draw a line. All the drivers are up-to-date. Is it possible there is some sort of compatibility issue going on here or something I am overlooking?
I am attempting to use 3ds Max 2013 at my job, and I have run into a rather painful bug/problem. Every time I open the curve editor, my cursor starts flickering between normal pointer image and hourglass, the buttons in the top of the editor flicker randomly, and I cannot select and type anything in the input boxes in top or bottom. All this flickering lasts for about 10-20 seconds, which is not a long time if it just happened once, but I have noticed that it happens after every time I move a key. What 3ds Max goofed up to cause this problem?
Edited raw AVC/HD footage on Premiere Pro, but in preview and also when exported it flickers which it doesn't do on the original clip.
I've made 20 different sequences in this project without realising this issue! And I really want to avoid having to import all the clips again and re-edit.
